Description
Fighters break things.
Mechanics fix ‘em.
Those were the two truths Perry lived back on Earth. When he got isekai’d into a young noble with newfound magical powers, he found himself stuck with an awful choice. Try to survive on the Front, the mystical battleground where Hydras and Devils roamed free… Or find another way.
So he took an oath. An oath that made him a Magus Dominus. A mage lord. He’d escaped his fate, least for the moment.
For most his life, Perry was used to being alone. When he got sucked into Ro'an, he was suddenly thrust into the role of surrogate son to his loyal servant and half-brother to a tempestuous Storm mage. With their help, Perry prepared his best to be lord and protector for his domain. And if he fought a few monsters, and helped a few people along the way, well…

- Winged ThingRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I like the story quite a bit. Has some very interesting ideas, good characters and an enjoyable premise and plot where the MC is for all intents and purposes affecting the world around them, not being affected by it as I could describe many other similar stories to this one.
That said, I've found myself skipping more and more of the in between parts as I've never been much of a slice of life kinda bloke if that's your bag then you will find much to love here. Yeah, 5* simple as, it's good - KrazeKodeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I've read 40+ chapters in beta and can confidentally say that this is a great story. We have our main character Perry, who's managed to find himself in the body of Perth, the young arrogant noble kid who has family issues and had just awakened magic. Perth, now Perry, is suddenly put in a position where he must become a lord over a domain or be sent off to the Front to die.
The story follows his journey to his land as he is becoming a Magus Domini, and it takes a slow but steady approach to building up the magic, as we peel back the layers and watch Perry develop himself. But my favorite part are the characters. The dynamic between all of them is refreshing, and I look forward to seeing Perry grow as a lord and discover magic as he continues to learn about this new and fascinating world.
All in all, an easy recommendation. - TimmyTurn3rRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5So I read this whole story. Yes, all 264 chapters. I was looking for a good time sink and after numerous late nights, bathroom breaks, and more than one cram session on the couch, I finished the Ulysses of RR publications. It was fantastic!
To start, the Story is very intricate. This world is old. Stupid old. Like over 500,000 years of history kind of old. Empires have risen and fallen and it appears there has been at LEAST 2 if not 3 complete technological resets of this world. Some characters even mention as living for centuries, if not longer. The longer I read the more I was convinced this was less of an Isekai, and more of a Dune style reincarnation. In more than one instance it is hinted that there are other worlds and planets and that humans (and subsequent offshoots) came to this planet from someplace else. Earth and other familiar planets were mentioned. This leads me to believe that this story takes place in a far far flung future, where people discovered magic and traveled to and colonized distant planets. Only to fall, rise, fall again, have some civil wars, and continue living on into the world it is today.
The main character is a lovable piece of work. He has a history that one particular arc dives into that nobody would envy, and he knows it. He's not a stupid "all powerful because reasons" type of charecter, he has to work for it. He come off a little winey a the beginning, but that is explained as his personality changes. There is a cast of characters that also get their personal chapters and backstorys explained, even if sometimes you werent really wondering about it.
Grammar gets the obligatory mention for this review. Nothing too glaringly major except for the occasional misspelled word. I've read full book publications with less issues.
The only critique and reason for the 1/2 star is the style used for the magic system. After reading 264 chapters, I can honestly say i never fully understood the magic or the "system" in which it functions. That' - JagoRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Plenty of other good reviews of this story, so a short review.
Grammar is good, with some piece of scrap from earlier drafts once every three or four chapters.
The story flows well, relatively little conflict and a bit of political play, but they are only a small part of the story, something well justified by the isolated location where the MC set up shop (the first 20 chapter are preparing for it and getting there).
The main part is setting up the infrastructures in the MC territory, dealing with the problems, and slowly discovering the past.
The pace is good, but not fast, so, if you like novels where there is conflict in every chapter, probably it isn't for you. If you like novels where the world is a tapestry that the MC is slowly making, combined with a puzzle he is resolving, you should like it.
P.s.: yes, the metaphors choices were made to stay in theme with the novel. - StultusRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0put this on my list way back when it was like... on chapter three.
anyway, binged 90% of the backlog earlier on the day of writing this review.
It's pretty good! Quality grammar, the setting for the story is generic high fantasy, but it does some small tweaks to differentiate itself - you'll have to read to find out though. hehe XD
The story takes its time to properly explore and dwell on each situation as it comes, which personally, I appreciate. I do understand that this isn't to everyone's taste however.
Slow, but steady. A high standard of quality. I enjoyed it immensely, and look forward to more. - David ZhouRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0I love the idea and can’t wait to read more . Isekai jackpot is a great idea and it was a hook to start with such a graphic. Thank you very much for sharing I am fairly new to Isekai and I am enjoying how you get to become a different person.
- shadow1716Royal Road★★★ 3.0Started off pretty okay. Couple of blatant plots being forced through here and there. But as the MC made his journey to his new lands things just took a silly turn. Everything was just handed to the MC, he built a machine of flesh and bone but can't kill a creature that a normal human could with his magic. Everyone just accepts him, and his companions are of course the best most OP people around because why wouldn't they be. Alot of the 'events' are just generic insert tension here points like random people going 'omg this happened help' or things that are totally not normal just happening. A low-level monster singularly invading a city where a hydra was insta killed just approaching the wall...
Also, when every major character thus far is some attractive or unique female despite saying it's no romance... it's still a harem. A MC going around collecting females is a harem. - HellmanderRoyal Road★★★ 3.0I find it really hard to articulate abstract things like writing styles but this is one of the times I feel it's existence most strongly.
Somehow, Draith can mention a fact, like some people being around and then literally two sentences later reference those people and I will be completely floored as I have either forgotten or missed the fact that they were around.
In all my years of reading this rarely happens.
A more specific example of this style throwing me for a loop is in Chapter 79 where the MC gives some background info on why chasing down a bad guy is a good idea.
"Second, there were two Waygates that had only required modest repairs to be functional. The first had led to the refugee valley. Once the storm had descended, I'd realized that being able to quickly move people from place to place would be critical, especially if I needed to evacuate them. So I'd started repairing the second, only to discover it led to an exposed rocky ridgetop. The project was only three-quarters complete, but I put in the time to finish it now. It'd be much faster than Vaserra attempting to ride Frost Lily after her father."
Here is reason Nr. 2, I interpreted this as him explaining his thought process and his plan of action, so I felt like completely lost when the next moment, they're there looking at the bad guy (her father), what actually happened was that "I put in the time to finish it now" was what was happening RIGHT NOW and that I should expect the next scene to feature the other side.
It's really exhausting to read when I am so not on the same wavelength as Draith, but despite that I'm 80 chapters deep right now, so take that as you will. - Kimbrough7Royal Road★★★ 3.0It's just okay. The MC isn't great. He's average, weak, and and acts like a teenager even though he's supposed to be an adult.
The dialogue is amateurish and the side characters aren't interesting.
The concept behind the story is good and the world is interesting but it never all comes together.
It all just lacks depth. It could be so much better than it is which disappoints me because I want to like this.
Read if you're bored but this won't be on your follow list. - Man With Flower BasketRoyal Road★★ 1.5The novel has good world building, however the characters feel very flat and seem to have no agency. The hand of the author is felt very strongly with each event. The relationship between the 2 main cast feels very rushed and the MC acts out of character to move the plot forward. MC acts like a bratty kid, and somehow his sister picks that up and runs with it too snubbing everyone around them and being brash to pick fights. MC starts using modern day sayings after saying he wanted to be careful about his identity, but that is quickly forgotten. Foreshadowed points seem to get retconned from chapter to chapter and events come to the MC out of nowhere. MC can't be in public for any length of time before some absurd event happens and then it is the next chapter where it happens again. The prose is well done, and the grammar isn't bad, but nothing is consistent and characters out of nowhere have modern day sensibilities. It just isn't believable.
