Description

#The author of this novel is actually a real-life tomb raider, and he has incorporated parts of his own experiences of tomb raiding and imprisonment into the story. Due to its moving plot and realism, it became explosively popular on the Chinese internet. However, because some of the story is based on real experiences (illegal activity), the novel has been banned by Chinese officials.

Synopsis:

I was a poor lad from a mountain village in the Northeast China, and at the dawn of the twentieth century, striving to make something of myself, I joined a band of tomb raiders from the Northern Sect.

From south to north, through the myriad faces of the Jianghu, where all walks of life converge, I've hustled my way from youth to middle age. My capacity for drink has grown, and the years have slipped by. I've encountered a multitude of extraordinary people and strange events.

If you're intrigued, pull up a stool and lend an ear to the tales of a tomb raider, and his experiences in the world of the jianghu.

I have read up to ch. 51 and so far the story has been very good.
The entire theme of exploring tombs which might contain a supernatural horror or not has been executed very well so far.
My only issue is with some of the names that clearly have been translated from Chinese to English, they get confusing to remember and sort of break immersion for me.
The story reads like a translated version of a story initially written in Chinese, but it's still a solid read.
Give it a try if you like tomb exploration stuff or are a fan of Tomb Raider or The Mummy series.
