Monty was dead until he wasn't.

His body was no longer his own, having been shoved into a dying priest in the heart of a totally different world of magic and death. The priest had been protecting a caravan—a duty Monty now inherited—and he was faced with bandits and worse, all while keeping up the facade of his stolen identity. Luckily, the priest had been capable of miraculous [Light] magic, and now so was Monty. He could heal...and he could kill.

And he would, without hesitation.

He'd rather not die again.

A recommended nice leisurely read with a more mature main character than the usual litRPG protagonist. Both the transmigration and choice of cleric for the main character's class are a bit off the well-trod path as well. The religious aspects of the class are handled tastefully and in a way that generates interest in character's progression and the story's pantheon itself.
    Story score: 4.5
The story has been fairly straight forward with slice-of-life as the character grows in strength and learns about the world, but not without action and twists. Info dumping has been avoided and the reader is allowed to explore the world alongside the main character. Mysteries and the foundation for a deeper plot have been laid. This is a section that could easily become 5 stars as the story progresses.
    Style score: 4.5
The style is slightly marred by overuse of ambiguous pronouns that could be better replaced with more descriptive and less confusing text--the first paragraph being an obvious example. Some phrasing is awkward and lacks a polished feel in places, but even so, Buller is able to create a wonderful sense of viewing the world through the eyes of an old man. Many of the style issues become less prominent after the first several chapters, once the author gets on a roll and has a better feel for the characters and the story.
    Grammar: 4.5
The grammar is good with only occasional slight errors, missing words, and auto-correct snafus that should be expected for the prodigious speed of writing.
    Characters: 4.5
The characters have interesting backstories and aren't relegated to stereotype roles, but while the main character's 'voice' comes through strongly in the prose and dialog, it feels less so for the supporting characters. This is another place where I feel, that given time for the story and the characters to grow, my initial assessment of 4.5 stars could readily become 5 stars.
Overall, it's a fun read with potential for more and I'm looking forward to reading more chapte

Truth be told I mainly started reading this story for points in the Review Contest. That said, I am glad I chose this story to read. The premise is that an old man is set with a calamity and wishes that he would be sacrificed to save those he cares about.
From there a god (not going to spoil it) listens and he is granted the ability to do what he asked. Though there are of course problems already stemming from this granted request. From there he gets a fairly interesting set of powers that help him accomplish different tasks. Also there is the fact that he can modify and change the initial powers he is granted, this is always something I appreciate in a story as it lets us see the creativity of the character.
This is a nice change of pace from the traditional given a quest to destroy trash mob type of story that is plaguing  the LitRPG genre and definitely worth a read through. While there is death and destruction, it is more based on the moment than forced violent interactions with the world.
For what it is worth I really hope this contestent makes it through to the end of the Writathon as I am curious to see where this story goes.

The luck stat has been curse jammed to the floor for Monty and his friends. He makes new friends in the strangest of places as he finds other unlucky people and helps them out. Monty is an ever growing monster for the purest of motives and the truest of means. Ever closer to the light, he sanitizes everything in his path. Insanity.

The main character is really well done and has an amazing grandpa energy. The other characters can be easily recognizable and are well written as well, though I think we will see more of them being show as we go forward as he has a whole caravan of characters to interact with and I liked how that is been done  bit by bit to not overwhelm us with lots of characters right from the beginning.
There are some small bits that need some fixing here and there but nothing too big, the biggest is about the [Herbalist] that was said to be already dead on the first chapter but later is shown alive on the caravan. The dialogues are well done but can be improved and I believe they will as the story goes on and the author gets more comfortable writing. The system is the usual, I think only 1 skill point is too little for a level, but at least like this we won't get lots of big numbers any time soon so I can be at least a bit certain that it's going to be nice ride for a while.
Anyway, thanks for writing and if you have any doubt about reading, have none, it's a great story in the making !

I like the story very much. There is a reason it appeared in trending. you just want to know what happens next. story isnt too complicated, and there is just the right amount of numbers.
i recommend to to anyone that likes fantasy, healing and fantasy healing.
I also like the fact that the main character is an old man, both in body and in spirit.

    It's a good setup
It goes strait into the story, in a compelling way.
I skipped some of the grinding, because I wanted to get right to the story.
The main character doesn't seem to have any goal beyond survival, and being a good healer
The world itself is filled with conflict, bandit attacks, etc... but I'm not sure about overarching conflicts and goals so far.
It would be nice if the main character could more explicitly state his values. Like I hate Apple pie, or children are annoying and should be shot, or once I'm a strong enough healer I'm going to reverse my aging until I pop right out of existence.
Why main character is too nice, he needs some pet peeves, or to be grumpy sometimes, or something.

The story setting in itself while not unique has a somewhat different atmosphere than I have become used to on royalroad. It's enough for the story to set itself apart. I do enjoy stories where the mc has a more utiliritarian set of powers but they are used to great effect. Which is something this story does well.
The style is clean, I don't really have anything to remark there. The style is 3rd person, non omniscient. It doesn't sport any mistake of switching tenses. It adheres to the style of writing it chose at the start so there is no reason for it to get anything other than Full marks in my book.
Grammer may have some typos but nothing that disturbed the reading. Seeing as how I would rate people with good english but who make a decent amount of mistakes a four then this fic deserves it's five.
The characters have depth and they slowly grow into their roles, or out of their roles as the story progresses. The cast is varied but doesn't grow too quick to keep track of. It made an interesting array of characters and kept you invested.
The story itself is honestly not one for the ages, but it is one to keep track off. That however is more personal taste than the result of bad writing.
Al in all I would definitely recommend this story to others and it does deserve its spot at the top of rising stars. Even if that means he's beating me :)

It's good. I could end this review right there but then it'll be too short so we're going to continue. Some stuff I liked about this story is the stats aren't too complicated. They do pop up in the chapters but unlike other stories, they're not these huge things that take up so much space and have a ton of data on them; they're much easier to read and understand. The main character is also something rather different; instead of a warrior, a hero, or even a blacksmith, the MC here is a pretty old priest, compared to the much younger MC's usually found in stories of the same genre. All in all, I can see why this was number #1 in RS for so long. Good job!

So far, great story. Good mix of action, world building, and blue boxes. Pacing is still settling out (hence the half-star), with the caravan facing near-destruction a little more than seems likely for it to still exist. Healing Mechanics are a fairly rare branch of litrpg, and fun to think about.
The danger-heavy pacing doesn't keep me from enjoying it, and some may appreciate the excitement!

Let me just start by saying this is one of the rare few with minor grammar mistakes, that most people could easily go over and never notice.
I am really enjoying this story so far.  So i will say that i wish that that you got a little more background on the MC, but what has been given isn't a detractor from the story..  What i mean by this that the MC was chosen by the summoner, but there is no info on this, or why he was the one chosen.  Just poof the old man completes the spell and pulls the new hero into the story...
