Description
Dor and Kenya have been best friends since they first met in middle school, when Dor had just moved to the planet New Kansas. As they graduated at the top of their high school class, their futures were looking bright. But when their applications to The Pilgrims, the space exploration agency, was denied, they were left scrambling for some way forward. Their other options were limited, and none would keep them together. Or so they thought.
Both of Dor's parents had retired from The Terran Alliance Fleet, the main military and policing force of the known worlds. She always thought that she'd rather be caught dead than signing up. That is, until the recruiter insisted that they could stay together while enlisted. The catch? They'd have to get married. 33rd century or not, that sort of thing just wasn't done on New Kansas.
On the way to basic training, their group was waylaid by pirates. With help too far off, they take it upon themselves to try to escape their captors. After all, in space, no one can hear you travel.

- GentledragonRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The story is quite short, so I won't be including any spoilers. Suffice to say, the world building is quite good, in a less is more mysterious kind of way, and the plot is tight, focused and packs in a lot of great moments. The characters are quite well fleshed out considering the length and the dialogue reads very well. I would encourage anyone who feels like the beginning drags a little bit to persist, and I suppose if there is anything to criticise here it's the weakness of the initial hook, especially since the bulk of the story is so good. Grammar etc is of course excellent - especially by royalroad standards.
Tl;Dr - Excellent sci-fi adventure which doesn't get too bogged down in the details, as many do. I'd highly recommend this story to people of all tastes. - mannibal1Royal Road★★★★★ 4.5An interesting plot so far with no notable problems so far. A mix of sci-fi and magic with very interesting lore in the background. The wording is seen beautifully and expresses the MC’s thoughts and feelings about the events happening. The whole setup of trying to achieve one's goal and failing to achieve that is masterful. An interesting read so far and hope to see more in the future.
