No Absolution, An Antagonist LitRPG
Community Rating
Description
Colin is bored out of his skull and has been getting more and more restless of late, and his wife, McKenna, has noticed. To help, she decided to get him one of the most sought after devices on the planet, A headset for the Ineffable Gaming System and its revolutionary game Rosengard Worldwide. The most advanced virtual reality video game and the only one with a near-perfect total immersion system, McKenna hoped that the activity in the game could help him overcome his boredom for the foreseeable future.
On his first day in the game, he's betrayed for loot, killed, and even made to suffer.
Unknown to these players, Colin (DevilWalker in-game) was an Assassin for hire that takes loyalty and betrayal seriously. It was never just about business, and this was not just another aspect of the game for him. This game was a gift from his wife, and he wasn't just going to stop.
Now these players and anyone who harbors them are on his list. There will be no compromise, no remorse, and No Absolution to any who betrays Colin Drummond, The DevilWalker.

This story is a LitRPG Action/Adventure story that will feature levels, skills, abilities, monsters, douchebag players, exciting and cool equipment with so much more.
I have so much planned for this that it should be fun and entertaining for readers who enjoy the LitRPG genre as much as I do. Please join me as I recount the tale of a man who becomes a legend — both in-game and out of it.
I plan to attempt a weekly update schedule. Upload Sunday evening(for me).
Warning! This story will involve some amount of cussing to help add some realism and some insinuated sex that will fade to black the moment the fun begins. I am hoping to mostly keep this Rated PG-13 with maybe a few Chapters going rated-R due to language.

- McBlasterRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Being out of work Colin gets an expensive gaming headset from his wife. Not sure why she wouldn't be pushing him into finding a job but hopefully answers will come, only on ch 5 ATM.
Jumping in-game he meets some NPC to get the newbie quest and is overhead by some players that offer to help him with it... Surely just to mug him right? Anyways, he's bloody good with his daggers and zips through it, only to play out the boss fight a little differently than most would, and it seemed to work until one of the 'helpful' players that joined him F's everything up and brings out the big area boss.
*Scene skip so I don't fully spoil the battle*
They do decide to mug the guy!!! Bahaha we all knew it was going to happen but Colin seems to be a bit unaware of it.
He dies, but from that receives the prerequisite LitRPG special class!!! Yup I really love the LitRPG genre.
So the setup for the story has been great and I know I'll be spending today read it. Looking forward to seeing if the Author makes him into the murder hobo or moral values MC
5 stars so far. - L0c4lF0xRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Perfection, I tend to ignore virtual reality books, but this was exceptional.
The style was beautiful and let you just flow through the story, this was nicely pulled off. (5/5)
the story was absolutely beautiful, I go into details in the spoiler tag. (5/5)
The grammar had no mistakes as far as I noticed. (5/5)
The characters are smooth and fun to read about, there is more in the spoiler tag. (5/5)
Spoiler:
The fact that it turned out not to end up as pure VR and it was actually a real world, was hinted at a little and it wwas truly impressive how the author puled off the switch. The vengence goal, the Demon Lord Canidate stuff, and most importantly the absalute beauty off the relationship between characters. Even if I have seen better stories, This one was absalutely magnificent! - PabloypabloRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Review as of Chapter 11
This work is an interesting twist on the LitRPG genre. I've enjoyed it so far and am anxiously awaiting for the MC to class up.....
So while everything is logical and hangs together so far, the pacing seems a little stretched for the reward of the hidden class.
Keep up the good work. - toddRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0First off, the story is a good deal less edgy than the summary seems to indicate. There are still moments that are a bit over the top, but the protagonist is actually pretty reasonable and friendly, rather than the anti-social loner I half expected. The game mechanics pretty straightforward and take a back seat in the storytelling, while the early chapters are largely focused on the MC as a newbie to gaming, figuring out quests, and getting the hang of fighting in the game. And it's pretty well done. I'm not the biggest fan of VR litrpgs, since it's hard to write in any meaningful stakes for a game without going overboard, but the combat and world are interesting enough that it's well worth the read.
The characters are largely well written, with some exceptions (the squad that killed him was a bit much), and outside of some odd moments, the dialogue flows naturally. I know that this is tagged as an anti-hero lead, which other than brief mentions that the MC used to be an assassin, he's actually decent to everyone he meets. Which is pretty refreshing. You don't have to be a bad person to do bad things, and unlike a number of stories, he's not running around creating enemies when there's no need.
So, overall, this makes for a pretty solid read. There are still some minor hiccups and the potential to really crank up the edginess if the author decides to (please don't), but there's a lot of room to grow the story and I'm looking forward to seeing what the author makes of it. - AvidReader9508Royal Road★★★ 3.0Let me preface this by saying I only got to chapter 10 before I decided to drop. The author seems to be contradicting his MC's skills and mentality a lot in this story (at least the beginning). The story's premise is good but the execution so far has left me pretty disappointed.
Expanded explanation with possible spoilers:
The MC is a retired hitman who doesn't know much about games. When he gets into the game his stated mentality is that he will treat it like real life because of how realistic the game is yet his actions contradict this mentality as well as his supposed previous history as a hitman. He groups up with sketchy people who treat NPC's rudely and even one member set off his "danger sense", he says he hates betrayals yet in his encounter with some important mobs he negotiates for them to leave then when the party he is grouped with sneak attacks them he doesn't explain, complain or turn on the party he just decides to get down to killing the other important mobs. He also seems to lack all mentality of a hitman (doesn't act very competent at being stealthy or wary).
Finally, something that is confusing me in regards to the game mechanics is it seems to give appropriate skill levels that mimic a persons real life skills (stealth, acrobatics, etc.) yet it also seems to downgrade the effectiveness of the transferred skills by using something like a dice roll mechanic that can make it to where things miss or you fail an acrobatic move that you would have succeeded at in real life. The MC has experienced these effects and yet has not gone anywhere like a training grounds to test the mechanics effects or to bring his skills up to a level that is closer to his real skills. Combine this with the way the author is having the MC make sloppy or stupid decisions that run counter to what a hitman's general mentality would be and you get this weird disconnect of the author trying to portray this MC as like a john wick type character and yet his decisions don't reflect - TomaRoyal Road★★★ 2.5Yet another take on the same old VRMMO story. Nothing new or special about it, definitely no "twist". The only interesting part so far was a character being named Baal, which I have yet to see used in a webnovel, so props to the author, I guess?
The protagonist is an edgy(his name is DevilWalker...) hitman with his own set of special but relateable morals, can't get too out of line, can we? Feeling bad only when your targets were unskilled, seems alright to me.
Honestly, I've given up on people making good RPG systems in their novels. I understand it's hard, so I simply tend to ignore them when all I see are meaningless numbers and percentages. The author will forget about those later himself anyway. You can't translate those things into real life(even when it's written in a story). What I mean to say is: Don't expect anything special in this department.
Writing is subpar, to say the least. Dialogue is horrid: "Beep boop Dear, what is this you've bought me?" "Oh, sweety how snarky of you ha ha ha beep boop.", "Me big and like small friend, am funny, beep boop but not baddy big beep boop". I'm saying they're robots. You can tell there is someone trying there, somewhere, so maybe it will get better. Until then it's mostly exposition.
I haven't noticed any misspells, which is good, but the writing is lacking in other aspects such as switches between second and third-person views at weird points, and the spacing sucks all throughout. By spacing, I mean the spaces between words or paragraphs. The former may be due to the site, but the second is purely on the author's side.
To conclude, amongst the many stories on RoyalRoad both new and old, this has nothing to do with my reading list. You may find it entertaining but I can promise that a cursory look through the site will find you many well-written stories with more interesting premises. - CJ99Royal Road★★ 1.5it feels like the main character is not making any choices. he is on a linear path and when he begins to move off that path someone comes along to force him back on the path (ex wife ).
he hates betrayal but he seems like he has never been betrayed.he is still naive and foolish even though his backstory should dictate otherwise.
