New Magic Brothers: A scholar and a tattoo artist walk into a tavern…
Community Rating
Description
This work is dedicated to my little brother Oskar, who has greatly supported me in my life, and to whom I am grateful.
Years ago Rum, an aspiring academic, disappeared from The Flipped University of Magical Studies. Now he has returned. But where has he been? Why did he disappear? What is this new magic he keeps talking about? And more importantly, did he forget basic rules of hygiene and proper attire while he was away?
These are the questions that Rum's much more established little brother Amez must be wondering about, as Rum tries to return to civilization with a new life, a new job (of sorts?), and a new home in Ermos City: a city of magic, guilds, adventurers, heroes, and secrets.
KEYWORDS: medieval world, magic invention and discovery, cosmopolitan atmosphere, autocratic dungeon lords, semi-pacifist MC, non-binary undead, steampunk nationalist corporatist gnomes, anarcho-communist elves, dwarves

- ValentineNRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Rum is a genius, not necessarily super-smart, but always looking, probing, asking questions, giving him a unique worldview. As a result, he creates his own brand of magic.
In isekais, reincarnation novels etc, the MC relies on previous lives or minds shaped by living in a modern society to pull ahead of everyone else.
Without the aid of a previous life he goes about revealing and advancing his new magic in an awkward manner, making for a strange and amusing story. - Void99Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0The story is about the journey of a man who is developing his own school of magic and it has a very good pace to it. The MC is very well though out and his relationship with the other cast members are also well developed.
Although it does have a lot of magical philosophy in some of the chapters, it is interesting but sometimes I just skip those parts.
Overall it's pretty solid, one of the hidden gems. - Patryk RysRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5This is really hard to put score on. Overall story? I would say 4.5. World and idea? Easy 5. Our characters? Ehh could be better.
Story is about new way of magic, kind of thropeish but author made it really interesting and fun.
Even with our... Lets say very naive MC.
But you know what pisses me off? Way of writing, this is what pissed me off. Don't get me wrong you will not get much of grammar errors or other typical problems. But you will have problem that is persistent for entire story and that is.: Long, really long, and even longer exposition, background, descriptions. How could they be too long? Well they are, when you will meet some dwarf, you will need to read entire fucking backstory, even with their weird mating rituals etc. Over 70% of the chapters are unnesesary mummbling about unrelated stuff.
Do we deal with dwarfs later? Do we have any other interactions with them at all? Will we have interactions with them in the future? Was it important for story development? Will it be connected to some plot? Was it fun thing to read? Was it interesting?
Answer is no to all those questions. And this particular exposition was 50% of a chapter, and its just one of many maaany examples.
At least, and i mean really AT LEAST 30% of the chapters could be cut down, and you would lose exactly 0% of the story told, or anything, really anything that is important.
Another example.: When our MC tell a story to his "white rose" from some book it will take at least 2 pages...
Was this story important? Necessary? Needed? Maybe Fun? At least connected in any way to any other thing in the book? Answer to all is: no. Not at all. Words just for, I dont know, words sake? And its like that for almost every little thing.
I tend to skip over about 40-50% of every chapter, because dear lord, why would I read about all of this.
Its not even connected to anything in any way! Why!!
Worst part? Sometimes in the middle of some dumb exposition, or unimportant description, or some really long ex
