Description
Jane Wainwright has been in higher education for decades, never managing to decide what to do with her life. Just when she has finally decided what she wants to do with her life she is brutally ripped from her life and thrown into a world of swords and sorcery. And also really big hammers. But the forces of apathy, stupidity and bureaucracy will rise against her. And hitting them with a hammer probably won't work. At least there are always [Dungeon]s to delve and monsters to slay, that should keep her occupied.

- luda305Royal Road★★★★ 3.5It's a fairly standard isekai type of LitRPG. Protagonist pops into a world at a low level, but is full of "cheat" feats that give her a big boost which make her far more powerful right now than she should be, and clearly forecasts being very powerful generally later on. Kind of your basic gamelit fantasy world, including some very game-y mechanics for looting.
The one major criticism I have is that the protagonist's background is entirely irrelevant to the story so far, and especially to how she fits within the RPG system. Literally, the only portion that's relevant is that her unusually background gets her a big stat boost. But other than that, she decides to forgo anything that comes with her background and instead become a hammer melee fighter. It's a plug-and-play background that could be replaced with anything worthy of a +200% boost in stats.
One slightly odd character trait is that she drinks like excessively. Like in-world maybe two weeks have passed and she's passed out drunk three times? Yikes. - All in VaneRoyal Road★★★ 3.0This work just feels a bit rushed to me. I would like more insight into the main character, her motivations and feelings. At the moment she seems quite flat and I can't really connect to her. Other than that, the writing style is fine. It is nothing groundbreaking and the plot is certainly pretty standard isekai so far. Overall it is missing something unique to make this work stand out. I guess the protagonists weapon choice could count as such, but it is too nonsensical to be fun. Fighting with a sledgehammer is fine when your in the wilderness with no alternative, but afterwards it is just dumb. There are reasons even one-handed war hammers were used extremely sparingly throughout history. But a two handed hammer is an idiotic weapon at best. And it makes even less sense for a young woman with no particular athletic abilities. For me at least this completely breaks immersion during fight scenes. I do think the author has writing skills, but at the moment this novel lacks that certain something that could draw me in.
