Nero Walker (A Slow-Burn Litrpg)
Community Rating
Description
Follow Nero’s journey through a world filled with every fantasy imaginable, while being stuck in a city filled with only humans. Watch as he struggles to understand how magic works, and what reality looks like when it’s based on fantasy instead of physics.
He’ll have to face a society focused on self-improvement and cooperation. Suffer the horror of competent administration. Persevere through the indignity of living in a world where people’s opinions are based on rational arguments.
Although Nero’s past life hadn’t prepared him for the challenges he’ll face, he won’t face them alone. He will find allies to assist him, mentors to guide him, even a few fans. There will be villains and threats, heroes and training. But mostly, it will be Nero trying to ignore what’s going on around him while focusing on learning magic.
The world is big, and there are characters aplenty. As time goes on, the story will grow. The leveling system may seem simple at first, but it's soon revealed to be so complex that our hero will do everything he can to ignore it, regardless of the consequences.
If you enjoy watching an internet troll with a heart of fool's gold be forced to grow up by circumstance and the influence of those around him, then this story will be worth your time. Just don't get your hopes up, our main character isn't ready for that kind of responsibility.

- sk900Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Not sure why this isn't near the top in ongoing stories. Massively under rated imo. Yes the MC is a troll, and kind of an idiot, but that's what makes the story work. He's equally stupid and smart, and suffers from the former but he is getting smarter, sometimes. Character growth is fun.
But what really set this above most other stories on RR is the social commentary. The cognitive dissonance the MC suffers from is well written and believable and is most of the references we get back to Earth. The difference between magic/essence and physics is also well thought out and makes the magic system much compelling.
TLDR to the author: Keep it up, it's been a fun ride and is only getting better. - jirasuonnaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Interesting new world and magic dynamics. Manages to make the magic interesting without getting bogged down in laborious details. Characters are solid, the alternate culture is different enough to give reflection to our own without being so alien that it is distracting from the storyline. The humor is great and their are sporadic witticisms that remind me of Douglas Adams. The only criticisms I can think of are that the protagonist makes giant financial gains too quickly, in addition to his cheat power creep. Also, the author is far too fond of "smirk" and "chuckle." That being said, it isn't usual problem on RR, where men chuckle, women giggle, and MC grins at everything; just an overt use of "smirk" and "chuckle."
- Azure LimitRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0There is no reason not to read this story unless you hate a highly unique world with a fascinating society, culture, magical system and level system. All of it is incredibly well put together along with a highly entertaining main character. Seriously, read this not only for the world but also the comedic value the main character brings to the table.
- JumaatJantanRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Everything fit into my taste. The story has no glaring issue, characters flesh out and magic is unique.
Personally, I do hope faster release but meh I rather have quality than quantity.
Recommend to read and kudos to author.
I i i i i i i i i ii i. - MrmduboisRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0And that's why I started reading this story. That weird image drew me in.
Man am I glad I decided to check it out! This is hands down one of -the- best stories on RR.
The author does an amazing job of weaving snark, social commentary, world building, culture shock, and character development together. The way Nero swings between being the most cunning person in the city to the stupidest guy in the room is completely believable and hilarious to watch. The thing with the Mage's Tower is also a fantastic way of implicitly weaving in the way a reader participates in a story. Characters other than the main character are consistent, and well done, they vary wildly on the spectrum of easy to love and easy to hate, but they're always interesting.
The author also often has notes at the beginning of his chapters, READ THEM, they're great. - SlipithRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Stop reading reviews and read the story. You will not regret it.
Amazing novel. Setting is nice. There is a lot od beliveable characters with distinct personalities. But the best part of the book is MC. Hes witty, funny and driven. He reminds me of Viers from Pandora scrroll.
And the Nero reality tv is a brilliant idea. - TwpatryRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is a really fun story with fun energy.
Main is just a normal fairly intelligent, curious dude with some troll tendencies plugged into a universe More naive than he is used to.
The that I love about this story is that it makes sense and lets me stay immersed in the story rather than getting overly analytical about the inconsistencies.
The next thing I love is that it's a fun story that delivers lots of progression while remaining comfortable and the characters are enjoyable to read.
A lot third person perspectives beyond the main character, but in this story the other perspectives highlight the main character pleasantly and a lot of the fun is hearing about the reactions to the main character from others, so it totally works.
For I recommend trying 10 chapters and feeling how it feels!
Some and you have to slowly slog to the point where it gets interesting and you start seeing progression. This one grabbed my attention right away.
My family lost me for a while as I binged the story but now I'm caught up and jonesing for more. - _meRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I'd go through each element except that would be boring. 200 words when you can just go binge...
Nick is in the story if you like laughing at boring. Vera and other adult characters, realistically introduced, play well off the MC.
5 starry stars except 90% in character...One minor point against self-awareness for the adult 14-year-old (meta-point, for the whole genre) as mentioned as a issue below.
Very well told story, about a practical intellectual, getting isekai'd uniquely into a young teen body.
Obviously the culture and technology and magic (again well laid out) create issues with the age, but at least it allows immediate action.
I'd say more about the plots and intrigues and mechanics but the author does it better.
;)
lol click these ta every chapter you're welcome
Go have a chuckle...
Imho Patreon worthy, but I'm still on player manager & can only afford 1 at a time :/
Feedback is as per the headline here, absolutely amazing potential because modern POV...it remains to be seen how complete the story will become. Really hoping author sticks with this one. also some random parts in the training chapters, content warnings, it wouldn't hurt to know which chapters MC deaths occur in. - HiroZeroRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I believe that Nero Walker is a charming story slightly held back by some of Its own quirks.
Style 4.5: Witty and talented, if a bit rough around some edges, there are some very high highs and quite painful lows, but overall the balance is good and the quality is more than a match for the majority of what you can find on RR.
Characters 4: While we have started to incur into the same problem as HWFWM, in which after a certain point every single character that interacted with the MC started to resemble him in some way, here we have a fleshed-out cast that actually thinks and breaths life into the world, as long as they are not in close proximity of Nero.
Story 4.5: Pretty solid twist on the isekai genre, nothing too original but nothing too on the nose, the prose matches well with the fast-paced action, as well as the more relaxed slice-of-life partitions between big pivotal moments.
Grammar 5: Very few mistakes if any, I've not read all the comments so it may also be due to the active community helping with proofreading, but the results are still solid grammar all around.
The story mashes well together, the world is interesting and is also based on some solid premises that I would love to explore more, but unfortunately, I'm going to drop the story for a single reason that involves some spoilers so be warned before you keep reading ahead.
There is a very obnoxious and very protracted practical joke, which is that the protagonist for some reason refuses to listen to any single thing said to him by the supposedly very experienced people around him and is particularly against reading his "text messages" or the story equivalent, which are basically info packets sent to him through a magical neuro-link.
IMHO this would be bad enough when you consider that this happens every other chapter since chapter 2 or so, but when the joke also started shaping major story events multiple times I just couldn't take it anymore.
This singular thing is enough to kill this story for me, b - shadow1716Royal Road★ 0.5The MC is not snarky, he is definitely rude, he is constantly trolling and acting up. No one would actually put up with him or tolerate him, let alone going out of their way to help as apparently everyone does in the story. The MC says and does things for no reason expect to show the reader how annoying and insufferable his base character is. This story should have a comedy tag, as everything is treated as a joke by the MC and his trollish quips.
