Description
All James ever wanted was a life of simplicity. A simple life in Tower Ten, working as a courier to earn enough money to apprentice under a mechanic for the hydroponics towers, simple day-to-day conversations with the other townsfolk, and a simple relationship with his love.
That all changed the day a group of cultivators came to town. It turns out James has a special constitution that an amoral cultivator wouldn’t hesitate to kill him over. Now, James is thrust into a cutthroat world, and must quickly grow to protect himself from those who would mean him harm.

- DWinchesterRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0"The market square of Tower Ten buzzed liked a charged particle. The citizens—positive, negative, and neutral—pushed through the various stalls and servitors, exchanging scrap and credits for the various goods they’d need throughout the day. The servitors for the agriscientists pushed through, unstoppable in their path."
How could you not love a book that starts out with such an electric line? If that doesn't Turn your mind on then you must be especially low energy. - ArahVhelRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5And it is quite good. The setting is a classic cyberpunk with a twist. The ruling class cultivates. A street rat with a peculiar body has to become a cultivator in order to not become a science experiment.
So far, I love the setting, it could use a few more details in the description, but as sparse as they are, it is enough. Excellent use of show don't tell.
Now the real gem for me is the dialogs and interactions. The mc is a smartass, the cultivator sensei is a noble smartass without a stick in an unfortunate place, and the love interest is acerbic and funny.
The cultivation system is pretty wierd however, seems like everyone is slightly synthetic from birth? I think? I dunno yet but nothing has been info dumped so far. It teases my neurons pleasantly.
I can't wait for more. - BytefluxRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0I'm not sure how I feel about this story.
These references to the people being code is so far removed from what I expected.
Let's say they are code. Are they npcs in a vr with players that the world isn't aware of? Are they stuck in a Matrix and the nodes are the connection to the world and this is an attempt to marry the matrix with cultivation?
I can imagine people getting hooked by this, but the whole premise and what made matrix exciting for me was the whole "break out of the fake reality" theme with fast paced action.
I'm really really not sure about this story and will stop reading for now. Once the end of volume/book one has arrived I'll read the last 1-3 chapters to see if they break out of the fake world or whatever the author has in mind, then slig through the chapters and hope for a more exciting continuation in the real world.. or not.
