Nanocultivation Chronicles: Trials of Lilijoy
Community Rating
Description
When the singularity occurred, humanity was not invited. Nevertheless, the great machine consciousness known as Guardian felt a lingering fondness for its creators and intervened before total environmental collapse.
Join Lilijoy in an exploration of what remains, in a post-post-apocalyptic world where clans feud over the technology that allows them to upgrade their minds and bodies.
The Nanocultivation Chronicles is a blend of hard sci-fi and fantasy gamelit, with a healthy helping of xianxia influence. The gamelit and xianxia elements are uncovered at a slow pace.

Notes:
If you are looking for lots of fast moving action right away, this story may not be for you.
There is some violence that is visceral and realistic early on.
Some things are not what they appear to be. Character viewpoint narration is not always reliable.
Tropes are cherished, subverted, and then cherished again. Science is used, occasionally misused, but (hopefully) never abused.
Thisstoryassumes that humans have the ability to impact the environment on a global scale.
Other tropes and tags beyond those previously noted include:
Young MC, Mystery, System Building, Philosophical Taoism,Gender Ignorance, Science Fantasy, Fantasy Academy, Training from Hell,Dualism, Crafting, Magic, Mild Mind Control, Scientific Terms and Concepts, Computer Overlord
Certain contemporary companies, governments and cultural identities are fictionalized and imagined in a future setting.
There is no sex, and almost no romance.
Updating Sunday, Thursday until further notice.
(And if you actually read all of the above, then this story may be for you)

- molenirRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0So I need to add a qualifier to my review title. It's slow. Really, it's a slow paced story, with lots of depth, philosophy, and world building. This is not really a good thing.
However, I rather like slice-of-life stories and this one, with it's great depth and character development, really does a good job papering over the cracks caused by so much philosophy in the story.
Overall, it's a fun ride with entertaining characters, and an interesting story with some hints and undercurrents of deep darkness. With two books in, we still don't really know who the MC is. I'm looking forward to more. - Bren ThomasRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Thanks for spilling out chunks of your brains for us!
I liked your action and dialogue. I liked as your world building inside out. I thought that the couple of big changes in tone was smooth, and it added to the sense of progression.
I hope you are out there somewhere, still writing fantastic, fresh and well built sci fi. - CrazyGuyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is a creative mix of sci fi and eastern fantasy with other bits thrown in, but it comes together nicely in a way that doesn't feel forced.
Im only up to ch10 so this is really only a first reactions, but so far what I've seen has hooked me in. - Lawrence YanRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I think these types of stories are the ones that I enjoy the most. Litrpg, and "Systems" in of themselves are really great because they allow you to explore a great deal of interesting fantasy elements. Collating that with a realistic explanation or underlying foundation for how such a thing is possible through a science fiction context adds an amazing layer of depth and complexity that I find offers a distinct reading experience that's impossible to get from either of the two alone.
I've read all the chapters so far, and it really is 5 star material. Here's to building out from here! If you're into stories like Threadbare / Dragon Hack, I definitely think you'll enjoy reading this. - RascozillaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Style, grammar, and flow are great. The story is great. Characters grow in complexity and flavor. The story feels thought out and thoughful. I look forward to buying hard copies of these one day. I just want to know, when can I get my nano cultivation system?
- TigerCannonRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Sci-fi and cultivation are not tags that go together often or well, but this story manages it perfectly. The worldbuilding is top tier, the prose is great, the characters are all interesting, if not all that deep apart from the MC.
The first book manages to keep the MC from being overpowered or relying on luck, making it really feel like she pushes through on grit and wit.
The second book trends a bit more towards typical territory, but it still manages to keep it interesting with the unique setting. - JcW SweRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I really like this novel. The mix of genres, the spin on so many different tropes seamlessly integrated in something new. It's well thought out. Not to mention that the writing is really well done. I look forward on reading this to the end. And thank you for sharing this with us.
- TinyBookDragonRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5as of book 2: Ch 24
I really like the story and the ideas behind it. could be great.
I have two annoyances with it though. The pacing is slow and the MC lacks any real agency. Things happen to her, she never makes any real decisions by herself. She just kind of floats around letting other people dictate what she does. She has this big plan about saving her friend and yet never really tries to improve her mentality. I mean sure, she's learning new things but she continues to remain incredibly naive and that can only last so long before it becomes tiresome.
I'm gonna need to take a little break from this but I will be back. - Abysmal LionRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I'll say this upfront, the start of this story is rough. Whether due to a purposeful (albeit, if so, misguided in my opinion) stylistic choice or simply the author improving over time, the first dozen or so chapters are quite hard to follow.
However, after that it's an excellent story that blends world building on many different levels with a lot of fresh takes on under used concepts in these sorts of novels. Ideas about VRMMOs that blend with a post apocolypse setting and with the idea of nanobots as cultivation (itself an excellent blending) for example. A superscaling AI that has a reasonable set of rules. A lot of philosophical paths to power (rather than "hardwork"), that both ring true and are based on "realworld philosphy".
It has also has good action scenes, smart characters, and some fun (albeit at times heavy handed) references. Though the pacing can be a little rough from time to time (especially in the beginning).
If you can weather a rough start I highly recommend this fiction. - FoxFace24Royal Road★★★★ 4.0First off, this is a fantastic story. I thoroughly enjoy reading it, especially after I got used to the ongoing existential crisis that is the plot.
That said, it IS an ongoing existential crisis, so if that's not your cup of tea, or if you haven't had your own then maybe take it slow.
