- CaptainTripsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I was compelled to write this review after just one chapter because gotDAMN, this is a good piece of prose. The protagonist's voice is perfect, the scene is set up and executed effortlessly, and somehow even just the first chapter already has supporting characters that feel differentiated and interesting. Not an easy feat, but this story carries it off without breaking a sweat.
The bones of the story are straightforward: classic party composition of orc frontliner, elf (of some sort, class isn't clear yet), and a human caster. The tavern is just enough of a backdrop to let you know this is a Dungeons and Dragons-esque setting, at least at face value. But it's clear that the real fun here will be the characters, most especially the main character and his view of the world, helped along by his friends who clearly value being kind to a simple but good guy who's just trying to make his living in the world and score some loot along the way. Or maybe they value being able to direct a massively powerful orc how they like, but somehow I trust Pignob's trust of them–he knows a bully when he sees one.
Now I am speaking to the author: It's vital that you know how important Pignob is to me. I would buy him a drink. I would fight for him. I would protect him from all the mean people in the world, or at least give him permission to protect himself and tell him he's a good lad for doing it. Because he is a special and precious orc and I need more of this story injected directly into my veins. So please abandon all the other commitments in your life and devote yourself utterly to the journey of Pignob, so that I may bask in his radiance. - VonShepRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Join Pignob, the simple yet lovely orc, and his two good friends as the search for treasure and commit great violence to bullies. Comedy, violence, and the occasional free drinks, I am so here for it all.
I have read only one chapter at this point and already I want to be friends with this guy. Watching as Pignob's friends steer him through these adventures will be a true delight, I can just feel it.
