Description
When Gamer G.I.R.L. meets Gamer Girl, the shenanigans begin.
In the late twenty-first century, immersive virtual reality has become actualized. The Dream Machine, a device that quite literally lives up to its name, gives its users access to a new landscape of virtual realms—foremost among them the flagship game of the developers, Panarena Fantasy Online.
Into this world, a teenage boy named Sean Daniels enters on the night of his fifteenth birthday. The typical gamer-slash-schoolkid, his experiences in games is second to none—and his notorious alter-ego is known across the pre-VR virtual realms; but unlike his real self, this virtual self is a femme fatale assassin. And on that fateful night, he enters Panarena as yet another version of her: Lana Windstrider.
Here, he encounters Ariana, a genuine female player, who strikes up a friendship with Lana at once, and they become quickly dependent on each other as back-up in the game. But on Monday, Sean runs into a young lady named Rachel at his school, quickly realizing that she is Ariana, the very girl he has befriended as Lana in-game.
Quicker than he realizes, Rachel puts the pieces together regarding his online identity--and the trail of shenanigans doesn't stop there! What sort of adventures lie before the two of them and the small yet dedicated group of friends they end up making?
The answers await in this first volume of “My Life As A Gamer G.I.R.L.--Guy in Real Life”!

- JoyfulRainRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is a cute fluffy light read. The gender bending is done is actually part of the plot, but not heavy handed. Lots of interesting social interaction between characters. It is an adventure, but the true story is the the growing friendships. Give it a read if you are looking for a slice of life.
- PixieCinnanomRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0So it might not seem it at the very first glance from the backstory the character relays, but Lana is an extremely cute character and her interactions with her friends and guildmates are very much the highlight of the story, both inside the virtual reality and game and in the non-digital school life.
The story does feel a bit too fast-paced for Cinna's tastes at the start, but the foundations of relationships that were being built were enough to keep Cinna going through rapid levels-up and power gain as Lana and friend(s) took down challenges that should normally have been above their ability -- but VR allows some player ability and not just charater ability to influence things as well.
Cinna is far from finished with reading the story, and has only completed up through just past the first major arc being resolved, but the faster pacing did slow down a bit to deal with the machinations of other guilds -- but also to further develop the relationship between Lana and the others. The scenes at school in and in town are just as important -- and sometimes moreso -- than the scenes in-game, and that -- for Cinna -- is a good thing~ :)
As of where Cinna's at in the story, it's definitely one that Cinna will keep reading ... and you should, too! :) - IbisRoyal Road★★ 1.5The premise of the story could be interesting but it has a bad execution
1. the writing is very amateurish and it doesn't feel immersive at all.
2. in the game world section there is no system (not much importance is given to the game mechanics, it's simply said that the characters have a certain level and from time to time they shout the name of a random skill and that's it). Also the game doesn't seem to have lore nor is importance given to the landscapes or the aesthetics of the enemies, the only thing there is is a brief description of the 2 main characters.
3. In the real life part it isn't developed too much either and all the interactions are focused on the male protagonist and the girl.
4. The protagonist and the girl become friends too quickly in real life: as soon as they meet each other they become best friends and that's assuming the boy, despite not being an outcast, isn't the friendliest person either. The girl is also portrayed as someone who hasn't been able to make many friends because her mother's job requires her to move around a lot. In other words, neither of them have the profile of an extroverted person and yet they become friends within 5 minutes of meeting each other.
5. In chapter 3 the MC has already revealed his identity as Lana in the game.
In conclusion, I think the story lacks development in all aspects: I think it would be better if the author took his time to describe the aesthetics of the game, added some kind of mechanics and lore and, instead of just saying that the characters have been playing for a week and nothing else, he added scenes of the missions they have done and at the same time took advantage of the opportunity to go deeper into the characters' relationship (instead of saying that since they've been playing for a week they now get along much better than they did a chapter ago, which feels quite rushed).
In the real-life aspect, it would also be nice to see some kind of development where the characters were initially sh
