I really like it so far! The story is pretty much about a slightly older retired guy who gets superpowers in a world that is used to superpowers and aliens, but not as much as a story like 'I'd like to change my reincarnation subscription'.
    slight spoilers ahead
Another thing that is different from other classic superpower stories is the world is more like I would expect from a superpowered world. The only thing that I would say isn't quite realistic is that superpowers seem to have explicit uses, and you are basically either a fighter or a scientist, no strong people as construction workers here.
The character is the best part, if a bit mundane. He's a sad old guy that gets powers and is pretty chill. I like his protagonist powers (time stuff kinda) and supporting characters like his bodyguard are great, but there could be maybe a real friend added in later. At this point in the story he's more making acquaintances and developing  some friends though.
Would recommend for a chill story, nothing groundbreaking though.

Story of a retired historian in a world where super powers are common. In some moments the story is extremely straightforward. Grounded i would say.
It tells of arogance that comes with power, it tells about how easy to control population is, it also tells of something beyond our planet.
I love the character of mr. Montgomery and how he interacts with his surroundings; how human he is.
There is also the fact that i dont have to force myself to read it. It is pleasurable. When it comes to grammatical mistakes or just plain inconsistences i am yet to spot any.
All in all i would read it any day of the week.  Hope you will too

So far, what I'm seeing is a light superpowers/superheroes -esque world with some Cyberpunk/Ancap juice (giant alien corporations and superpowers) seeping through the slowly growing plot's structure. I also love story's MC, author really got that weak and fragile MC with big ambitions, great lust for power somewhere deeply behind his morale curtains, and not without principles too. I believe if continued, this work will have a great spin on typical superpowers tropes, and will show us progression from a weak to strong character. Only time will tell, but I cheer for Montgomery on this one. I'm also leaving space for fifth star until it's being finished. So if you're not a fan of superpowers, aliens and mysterious corporations - suggest you pass on this novel.

Ernst Montgomery is an interesting character. I've picked several stories here on RR hoping for a mature protagonist, using his live experience to see through bullshit, charades and official statements. And this so far is the best deliverance of this concept.
When we meet Ernst, he's accepted that it's time for him to fade to black - he's old, retired, alone and has no power in a superpowered world. He's no playboy-millionaire, he's no genius, but he has a moral code, a spine, manners and grit - but most of all, he HAS life experiences and that shows thoughout the novel.
This is an underdog story with a twist, that promises a hero more like Mr Spalder's portrayal in Blacklist without a deeply blackened and villainous past.
However due to hiatus I honestly can't say if this promise will be realized. I do hope it will, I'd like it to.
I'll deepen this review once more chapters are out. For now I like several elements about the world, characters and portrayal of superpower-caused corruption. Simple, but effective.
Plot summary offered by Deciever (sic!) is one I fully agree on. I'm not sure we need to have so quickly rising stakes, but we shall (hopefully) see.
Characters are distinct, have their voices, though I could say more could be done with them in the span we've been given. Teachers are quite distinct, I still remember pieces of their characterization and it's been a year and a half since I've read this.
For future authors: this novel does a reall good job at showing corporate aspects, a side-lined look at heroes (and their antics) from a non-powered individual, and an old MC who actually lived.
What could be done better: training montage, grand plot, faster pacing / flow.
