Danger looms over the horizon, and Nicoash can feel it coming.
After arriving on Nar Shaddaa, Nicoash Vesdani joined up with a hutt cartel gang where she met a host of friends with questionable morals. She perfected her art of thievery and learned to slice into anything. As the gang grew in power and notoriety, however, the rest of the cartel wasn’t happy. Now, they are coming for them.
Nico was never one to stick around when she knew she couldn't win. When faced with a reckoning that she couldn’t control, she ran. Unfortunately for her, she ran right into the clutches of the Sith Empire. Now faced with the threat of spending the rest of her life in an Imperial labor camp with no savior in sight, Nico has to take matters into her own hands and find a way out.

The author had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. I can't wait to read what else they put out and hope to see Nico again!

It made sense that she struggled to trust. In the end she did exactly what she had dreamed of all her life. Looking forward to reading more from this author.
- save_frogRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Elsellie has been telling me about her ideas for stories for years, and it's great to see her put pen to paper in her first novella. I think she really nailed it for her first long-form work!
Firstly, I think the idea of two stories told in tandem was a great idea! Beginning with Nico's humble beginnings as a thief and skipping ahead to her present as a career criminal gives a comprehensive look at the character. I love that both stories reflect each other so well. As an example, young Nico struggles to climb a building, and that is echoed in her tense struggle to climb up to the starship in the present.
I also really love how the tension rises in each story. Young Nico's first thievery attempt is pretty low-stakes, much like present Nico's chase from the Imperial guard. But things begin to ratchet up nicely in young Nico's escape from the space pirate town where only she is in peril, and the tension continues to raise even higher as all the inmates' lives are in grave mortal danger in their escape from the prison.
While both arcs are tight and very well-written, they leave me with a desire to learn more about Nico and her adventures. Likewise, they make me excited to see more of Elsellie's output. This was a great first start, and I can't wait to see more! - ventitaeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Although I consider myself biased in writing this review as I knew Nicoash as a character before reading this novella, I still found myself utterly entranced by the story that was created. As a Star Wars fan, I enjoyed the use of existing lore and the creation of new concepts and ideas as well! I truly enjoyed reading the story and getting to get a glimpse of Nicoash as a character. I highly recommend this novella if you want to fall in love with a silly mouse girl.

It's very fun to jump between perspectives to follow the connecting lines between Nico's past and present self and see the effects her previous experiences had on her current adventures.
I would love to see this author take on more heist-like stories with a crew of interesting characters similar to her wonderfully mousy protagonist in this story.
