Description
More Than Humanthrows you headfirst into the year 2123—a future of promise, peril, and transformation. At the heart of it all is Max, a bioengineered dog with a human mind and a body built for more than survival. As he trains to master his augmentations and earn his place in a world that barely tolerates him, forces far beyond his understanding are already in motion.
When Max’s unconventional father—a rogue inventor with dangerous tech—pushes the boundaries of reality, it lights a fuse that could upend everything. Civilization teeters on the edge as cracks form in the old order, and hidden powers begin to emerge.
In a world where nothing is what it seems, and trust is as rare as peace, one question drives the story forward:What does it mean to be more than human?

- Uncharted BloodlinesRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0"More Than Human" is a fun sci-fi adventure story that weaves together elements of technology, artificial intelligence, and the complexities of relationships (both AI and human). The story follows Max, an uplifted dog navigating a world of prejudice and augmentation training (it is well worth holding out for the slow-burn to the stats).
The narrative introduces a host of unique characters, including a flashback chapter with an intriguing A.I. entity APEX, and the central figures including Casa (an AI ship).
Despite some minor grammar errors, the immersive story unfolds with ease, offering hefty yet vivid chapters that occasionally read like you're viewing scenes from a movie.
The in-depth world-building is a standout feature, providing a fresh perspective on AI, futuristic technology, and the challenges of superintelligent entities. The narrative leaves readers anticipating challenges, creating an immersive experience into the potential future of 2100s.
Overall, if you're looking for something unique and fresh with some of your favorite 'present day' Earth culture references (including several references from various sources such as famous fictions, history, and myths), this story is worth diving into!
I look forward to continuing the fiction "More Than Human" and seeing how Max continues his progression as well as the other AI interactions. - BGillyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0More than Human is an adventure like I’ve never read before! Max is such a trip to follow as he navigates augmentation and human integration. Acrino’s character development prove to be well thought out and complex. I enjoy the cutting-edge technology depicted, keeping me completely engulfed by thought-provoking themes. This story keeps you hooked, delivering a deep experience that lingers in your mind. Keep the chapters coming!
- ChaotickeagleRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story mixes futuristic science with personal connections with what I’m sure it’s setting up for future surprises. The science parts feel real enough to my limited knowledge on sci-fi gibberish, and characters like Max the dog add warmth as he is still learning, kinda reminds me of rocket raccoon in the new movie. The powerful AI and strange interference make the story exciting with its god like knowledge. The mix of science, is awesome with AI, cybernetics, and interdimensional travel .As the story goes on, you'll want to know what happens next. It's a fun mix of future tech, AI pals and dogs that keep you reading. I also like how they use famous figures, like in Star Trek's holodeck, and Max is definitely a good boy!
- FiddlesoupRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Characters I would literally read an entire book of just this dog in particular. Oh hey wait I can! Lol
The dog was adorable and amazing and wanted more of it everytime it wasn't the focus of a a scene. “[Boring talk. Time for play!]” replied Max via his vocal assist implants.” had me laughing hard. Such a good boy. And bill is a fine protagonist with lofty ambitions. The villainous Ai felt terrifying.
Story: Easily the star of the show. The opening was phenomenonal such a great hook to draw the reader in. I love the ideas for the future tech including the ai tech the talking Dog and the Leo dicaprio thing. I was wondering why these were advanced tech in the year your story took place, but it was effectively explained quickly in a villain pov chapter which was the best chapter I read.
Style: not as sharp as the characters or world building but great for what it is.. The only complaint is there is little action, but the set up is all fun to read, especially the dog.
Grammar: this is where the story stumbles especially in the first two chapters, but nothing so major that you won't understand the story or be turned away. - GalaxygrlRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is a really interesting story. 100% unique premise and not the cookie cutter sci fi. So many different things being pulled together. I need some augmentation for myself. I really like the training montage.
Max is a good boy! Can’t wait to see what happens next. Liking it so far! - Lucian T. EinarRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0*Overall: "More than Human" by Acrinoe is a unique and intriguing science fiction novel that delves into themes of AI, technology, and societal biases, offering readers a complex and thought-provoking narrative.
*Style: The writing style is dense and immersive, with intricate world-building and detailed character development that captivates the reader's attention. While some may find the technical language challenging, it adds depth to the storytelling.
*Story: The narrative weaves together multiple storylines, from Max's journey as an uplifted dog navigating a world of prejudice to Bill's pursuit of groundbreaking technology, creating a rich and engaging plot. The exploration of AI rights and futuristic advancements adds layers of complexity to the story.
*Grammar: The grammar is solid, with occasional minor errors that do not detract significantly from the overall reading experience. The author's attention to detail ensures a coherent narrative that flows smoothly.
*Character: The characters in "More than Human" are diverse and well-developed, each with their own unique traits and motivations. Max's growth from a canine to a humanoid form, alongside Bill's mysterious past, adds depth to the story and keeps readers invested in their journeys. The interactions between characters are engaging and contribute to the overall richness of the narrative. - MaloryRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is an unusual story. I’m more a shields and sandals reader, rather than being overly interested in cyber sci-fi, but I very much enjoyed what the author is doing here. As a reader, I am looking for fiction that needs something from me, rather a book that is simply ticking it's way through the most popular genre conventions of the moment. And that’s what you get here. And in spades.
Story and characters - it’s early stages, but there’s an awful lot going on here. It would be difficult to really identify who the main character is - you need it to understand what I mean here - but each of the figures that we are introduced to is sensible outlined and enjoyably complex. There’s some real weirdness in the worldbuilding and some proper head scratching moments in things that the characters just take as normal. Those are the deft little touches I have really enjoyed.
Style and grammar. The grammar is entirely solid - with so much technical language and complexity to what is outlined here, it does matter that there add not too many other errors. Style wise - look, this is not going I be everyone’s cup of tea. It's weird, which I like, it's dense, which I like and there are few concessions made to a casual glance through.
Overall, this is great. Read it :) - MenilikRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0THIS BOOK IS AMAZING.
I'm a big fan of nerdy sci-fi books involving time dilation, AI, and multiple story threads. And this book has all of that!
Full spoiler in this next part, but there's a scene where our MC is having a conversation with an AI called Sherlock. The scene was one of the best I've ever read! So many layers to the conversation, time dilation, secret hidden meanings. It was beautiful to read.
Honestly, I can't praise this book enough. It's not like every other sci-fi on RR. It's interesting and has a ton of ideas in it. It's one of the best sci-fi books I've read in a while, so I feel like it's going to be picked up by a publisher!
I think the reason it'll be picked up by a publisher is because there's a strong main story. Then there's a wider plot that we keep getting glimpses of (some AI is hiding in the background pulling a bunch of strings to make something much bigger happen). And every chapter had a new idea or concept that is just mind blowing.
Honestly stop reading this review and go read this book. It's a solid 10/10
One other story I liked:
Uplifting a dog to human level intelligence. Such a cool idea. - Miranda HeraldRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I am really enjoying this story. So far I kind of feel like I'm looking to the possible future and it both fascinating and scary. I love the Sherlock Holmes Daemon. It really caught me by surprise when his 'analysis' turned violent, but then it was really just a logical experiment. Neat read!
- Oisin MuldowneyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0More Than Human will be enjoyed by fans of hard SciFi because the author is up to speed on modern technology and has really thought about the implications. It's like reading Greg Egan, in that every chapter gives you an interesting idea to think about. There are several strands running simultaneously in the story, which we move back and forth between. The most intriguing for me is the AI at work inflitrating software and the most compelling is that of Max, once a dog, who is now levelling up his skills having been given a new life after an intelligence upgrade and installation in a human body. This strand has LitRPG elements, as we see Max's quests and stats. And as well as this rich story, we also get a lot of bonus art!
