Description

After a cursed quest for vengeance transforms steadfast knight Mordekai into an undead abomination, he finds himself trapped in the underworld and forced to battle for survival and freedom. When a demon king offers him the chance to return to Earth and avenge his wife’s wrongful execution, Mordekai readily accepts despite sensing deception.

Back on Earth, Mordekai slays those responsible for his wife’s death, including a corrupt general. Though wounded, he presses on, determined to protect his homeland. But the world sees only a murderous phantom, not a hero.

Seeking solace, Mordekai returns home, where a bittersweet reunion with his forgiving father reveals how far he has strayed from his noble roots. Nevertheless, his crusade continues as he overthrows the tyrannical king and assumes the throne himself.

Ruling an embattled kingdom, Mordekai strives to bring his people peace—the one thing his hollow victories cannot restore to his cursed soul. In a climactic bid to break his undead curse by defeating the demon king who created him, Mordekai risks apocalyptic powers beyond his control.

This gripping dark fantasy follows one knight’s tragic fall from grace and his desperate bid for redemption through both heroic deeds and bloody vengeance. Can he save his kingdom without sacrificing his humanity?

This is all telling. Telling telling and more telling, like an outline for a story and less of a story in of itself. It feels part synopsis and throwing out rough ideas for arcs. The actual engagement and emotional investment in the character is nil because there is no weight to anything. It reads as if Mordekai does a bunch of random things and for some reason bounces between hero and destitute, then a king and then so on. All of this in about four pages. The narrative is not engaging and speedruns a book's plot (or more) all at once. It is too much in too short of space.
