Ravin, a young, inexperienced Deck-crewman, has vast aspirations. A son of a largely unknown family from the tiny Startrail island, part of the Khabo Territories him and his long lasting friend Ashe spend years preparing to partake in a short voyage on the tinySecco Classe. Once he enlists, oppositions from inside and outside the navy follow him and the crew, leading to a potentially catastrophic end for some, and a rapid rise in status for others. The strength, and mental strain, of warriors mentally linking to other beings is beginning to be challenged by rapid technological advancements. Few survive, and those that do bear scars of the failing systems. After a routine visit from a massive Vice-Admiral named Manuri, Ravin's aspirations are set alight by the massive scale of power on display.
