- Meatball_ManRoyal Road★★★ 2.5The first quarter of this work thus far is probably the most interesting part of the work. It is during this part that the protaganist struggles, and it is here that the story is new and fresh.
Very quickly, however, there is a point at which the protagonist's power begins to snowball, at which point the stakes become moot as you get the feeling that he simply cannot be stopped. I think it's important to balance limits and obstacles in such a way as to actually limit and/or threaten the protagonist in order to maintain any suspense for the reader. But I can forgive that, as this is a power fantasy, and I must admit I'm a sucker for a good power fantasy sometimes.
But my biggest criticism of this work is the repitition. In stories like this a common trope is to show the perspective of an outsider, newcomer, or subject on the protagonist and his/her kingdom. This is an opportunity to demonstrate the protagonist's actions on others, and often to indulge in the power and/or competence of the protagonist. However, this story uses this trope way too much, and often uses the exact same words to do it. Should you read this work, you will read constant praise about a character's "tactical mind/eyes", the protagonist's "refreshing bluntness" in diplomacy, how his forces move with "military precision", etc. And by that I mean you will read those exact words again and again during every battle or diplomatic meeting. Mind you, I don't recall there being any particularly clever tactics or strategies, it's mostly just that the monster army becomes so inherently strong that they can steamroll everything.
TL;DR: Protagonist's army becomes OP and the work gets really repetitive about telling you how great they are. - Tacosrule123Royal Road★ 1.0I finished the novel and I have to say. It was phenomenal. The grammar is top notch; I have not spotted many mistakes and if I did it would be only every 10ish chapters sometimes more or less. The story is pretty fast paced unfortunately but each chapter is pretty lengthy. I have read this novel twice and if you don't mind with it being dropped than I suggest it!
