- strangedoctor500Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0How this is not more popular is a mystery to me. It's been a while since I've enjoyed reading a story so much.
SPOILER ALERT
This story follows Feng Shen who finally awakens as a cultivator in the modern world after the system arrives, millennia after his actual birth. We follow Shen's journey as he stumbles, falls and rises up stronger than before. This story takes place in a rich, fully realised world(Where the system has a good reason for existing and expanding, creating interesting social dynamics), has an interesting and engaging world and an MC I enjoy following around. We also have numerous interesting side characters, both friends, antagonists and antagonists that become friends. - UguDyLightRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I commented it and stand by my words. Just the 25th chapter alone is worthy of whoever goes to read this to give out five stars.
Beyond that, the story itself is interesting, the feelings vividly described and the speed enjoyable.
There is not much more to it, it is as it is, very good.
Thank you Author for sharing this with us. - eric_riverRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I don’t give five stars too lightly, but this book is fun
to me, that’s what matters most when all is said and done
it’s mostly a mashup of cultivation and tower
but what sells the combination is comedic power!
The lead character has depth, his backstory is cool
he’s learned lessons in his life that one can’t learn in school
he’s mature but still learning, he’s proud but shows respect
he’s the point where the two genres mostly intersect
There’s a certain side character i should warn you of
at first he’ll annoy you be he’s one that you’ll soon love
he elevates the interesting plot to a fun level
and helps this stand out as a very fun webnovel
Other side characters have an interesting job too
‘mobs’ are not just there to be killed, they have points of view
you’ll enjoy the orcs and other human characters
but I think the lead appeals the most to most readers
Big misunderstandings between the main characters
usually makes me turn away like most normal readers
but the way that trope is used here works in funny ways
the comedy at meta levels earned my laughs and praise
The story is just getting started and will take a while
right now they’re in a tutorial, a training trial
basically the world is one of many in a war
facing some great unknown threat, but we’ve yet to learn more
The style is light and uses status boxes very well
could the exposition be tightened up? Ya, it could
there are serious and funny moments balance out
the movie jokes though are something which I could do without
The grammar isn’t bad but it needs solid editing
sometimes it does trip me up in the midst of reading
but it’s far from bad and it’s still a work in progress
there’s just some messy sentences that I would address
Overall this book makes up for every fault it has
it’s not perfect but it as that webnovel pizazz
it’s deeply interesting and the worldbuilding is great
and Mark’s a lot more likable than you’d anticipate - TheMakerGuyRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5some may say that the MC is schizo but there is an explanation for that he is manipulated by everything that isn't Alicia and the assassin friend. the conclusion to all this manipulation explains everything. he also gets brainwashed mind controlled put into situations that are like military boot camps (meant to change how you think) so yes he is disjointed and always changing for good or for worse because that is what the powers that be want. they want to manipulate him to their advantage every way possible and throw him away afterwards. he starts to realize this and it becomes a core part that he hates being manipulated but also knows that he can't
super major spoilers! do not read this part until you have read ch. 380
he is manipulated by everything that isn't Alicia and the assassin friend. even reality itself. why does valentina come to earth? because reality manipulated her into becoming an object of hatred for shen so that he will focus on her when the moment comes and she appears when he is dying.
every manipulation has a pay off and everything that leads to the moment has the reason of getting the stars to align for the big climax.
so good book! - s0nicr08Royal Road★★★★ 4.0The first 100 chapters are more exciting but the last couple hundred are spirts of traing, info dump, relationship, info dump, a little action more info dump. A lot of info dumps. Still good and worth a read but don't epect the later half to be like the beginning. The first 50 chapters are super thrilling, but after that, it's a mix of training, loads of info dumping, relationship stuff, more info dumping, a bit of action, and even more info dumping. There's a ton of info dumping going on! It's still a good read and definitely worth it, but don't expect too much after the tutorial.. to be as exciting as the beginning.
- RocksNPebblesRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0The story is interesting enough and while it is a power fantasy and a mostly perfect character, that's what it says it is, so don't be upset! It isn't a deep world and the broader alien characters and universe are fairly simple and have logical holes.
The story isn't doing any heavy lifting and that's a good thing as our MC is on a long term power up mission. The pacing is good, though it doesn't leave a lot of room to grow at the current rate of power accumulation, but I'm guessing it will slow down at some point. Solid straightforward world building.
The prose gets better as the chapters progress from mildly irksome grammar and word choice issues down to a low simmer of a few incorrect words each chapter, which is no problem.
The wuxia type prose and quasi integration with a blue box apocalypse LitRPG system works fairly well, but isn't particularly flushed out. Despite being firstly anti cultivation, the mana based systems are still Concept based in wuxia style.
Side characters can be a bit annoying or hit and miss. Everyone is 16 and pretty much acts like it, but the story falls down a bit as the world itself also fits into and acts in their mindset. Just skip anything in Mark's POV and you'll miss nothing but annoyance.
Gripes...the aliens and multiverse make basically zero sense and beings thousands of years old also act like 16 year olds. AP is a currency with no reason for it to be limited. No reason given and no reason due to scale of the multiverse could be reasonable.
You've got a near endless war with enormous full scale multi civilisation and multi galaxy level effort being put into it, but then they are somehow ultra resource limited. Like..a handful of powerhouses could probably win the war or make a big difference, but then they go about it in a really dumb way.
AP can sometimes be traded, but mostly not...any given small planet could pool or be forced to pool their resources to creat super powerful S or S+ ranked beings. But this doesn't happen.
They - yann kerrRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5The litrpg genre promised more than it could ever deliver and that, is that. For a good xianxia novel you would need the staples of progression, martial arts, understanding, harem building, face-slapping and so on. So it is no surprise that this novel with 80 chapters of tutorial in a litrpg post-apocalypse with a xianxia protogonist is a bit boring and missing the point of its own premise.
There is a lot to love here but the lack of consequences and true danger is just unbearable, the xianxia tropes are absent for the worse here since they haven't been replaced with anything meaningful. And the litrpg aspects are the most basic and boring I have ever seen (the final nail in the coffin, really).
I have nothing good to say about this novel, other than that it is well written and that it delivers what it is set to.
I might be a bit harsh but I can't understand why this thing even exist, since it's not so bad but just lack any good stuff in it. Why so bland ? why make it a tutorial and make it so that none can bleed ? - ThiccboiRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5Typically, I like to spread positivity and brag about stories I love, but this one has deeply saddened me to the point where I had to drop it.
Firstly, the Style of the story is fine. Most styles are either hit or miss, and this story walks a rather standard style of writing, which is completely fine.
The Grammar gets knocked a few points, only because, despite the numerous corrections in the comments, it still feels like it wasn't sent through a basic grammar engine, nor was it giving the ear test (listening to it through text-to-speech).
The Story...exists? I don't really know what story is being told. It feels like it is world-building through the other POVs for the sake of the reader, but almost none of it actually matters. There are so many basic questions that I don't have an answer to at 1,800 pages into a book.
The Characters are fine...until they suck. Now, this could just be the author's jadedness so I won't bash it, but there are good people in the world. There is a very famous book describing the types of people who are successful in a Universe like "Modern Awakening," and half of them are psychopaths (like depicted), but the other half are the "protectors" of the population. People who desire the safety of the masses, and become greater because of it. In MA, there are no heroes. At. All. I found myself wishing that the Earth would just be swallowed by the Void because there is no point in struggling other than to struggle.
Honestly, my main issue was during the ending of book 2. We get the entire progression system revealed and it is...mundane at best. There WERE some great philosophical moments where the MC """seemed""" to change and develop into a greater person until a Drow lady basically undoes every single advancement the Character has worked toward and fixes all the personality quarks that the MC would have had to overcome in the future. I know the MC had to stop spinning the bottle on his problems, but this was not the way to do the time skip. I - PalkathRoyal Road★★★ 3.0I am not certain why the author is fixated on simply uninteresting side characters so much. The only thing they represent is ultimate annoyance and waste of space so far. This detracts from the overall story an is certainly a huge detriment.
Character of Alice is especially is egregious. Basically she represents “woe is me” and seems created to annoy the reader. - pewpewcachooRoyal Road★★★ 2.5While I kinda like the start of the story and the backround for the MC, that is about it. The story so far doesn't hook me and the other characters don't do much for me at all. The writing is okay, the grammar is also okay. I would say keep writing author, it will only make you better at the craft.
