Zakuya Manya has never been very good at that.

Born with a Taint that refuses to be contained and a chip on his shoulder the size of Heaven itself, Manya has one plan: climb. Through the gangs, through the corruption, through whatever gets in his way. The world was built to keep people like him at the bottom.

He will burn it down from the top.

I recently read this light novel, and while it’s clear the author has a lot of creativity and passion, the story still feels like it needs a bit more refinement in a few key areas.
On the positive side, the action scenes are genuinely engaging. Manya’s escape early on really pulled me in it has a strong sense of momentum, and the choreography is easy to follow. His use of a stick fighting style gives the combat a distinct feel, which helps it stand out from more generic fights.
However, the worldbuilding could use more clarity. The story introduces a lot of terms like Taint, Limiters, Heaven, and The Pistil but doesn’t spend enough time explaining what they actually mean. As a reader, I often felt like I was trying to piece things together on my own. Slowing down just a little to give context would make the world much easier to understand and appreciate.
The dynamic between Old Man Tinto and Jirocho’s gang is another area that feels underdeveloped. Their relationship comes across as familiar right away, but without much setup, it feels a bit sudden. Spending more time showing their history or how they know each other would make their interactions feel more natural and meaningful.
The biggest issue, though, is the time skip. Jumping ahead ten years is a major shift, but we don’t get to see much of what happens during that period. Even a short look at Manya’s training or how he grows during those years would help a lot. It would also make his goals like wanting to reach Heaven feel more personal and grounded instead of somewhat distant.
Overall, there’s a lot of potential here. The story has energy, creativity, and some memorable ideas. With stronger worldbuilding, clearer character motivations, and smoother transitions between major events, it could really become something special. I’m definitely interested to see how it develops.
