Description

Mist and fog have had a certain mystique to people as long as humans have existed, and as Sera finds out, there's good reason to be wary. A few moments of inattention result in her being swept away by the mist, transported to the world of Omichlódis, a patchwork plane composed of castoffs from countless worlds.

Omichlódis has civilized places with a level of development similar to Earth, but Sera finds herself as far away from those places as she physically can be, with her only company being a suspiciously friendly elf, a cleric she can't communicate with, and a band of adventurers that can't be bothered to talk to each other, let alone her. She'll have to help them explore a newly arrived fragment of another world to earn passage to civilization now, or perhaps carve out a home for herself on the frontier, as according to the elf Tiriana, there's no way home- a claim she's loathe to accept at face value, but has no way of fact checking for the moment.

But the frontier may not be as empty as it looks, and accomplishing her goals may require more than just mapping uncharted territory.

I actually like this one a bit more than the author's other stories (which, apparently, are actually more popular). The world building is fresh and creative, and everything is presented in a reasonable and clear way. The exposition is moved to little encyclopdia-style epigraphs, which avoids infodumping the dialog and means you can read, skim, or skip depending on your prefs.
The MC is not wildly op or any of that nonsense (gosh, that s**t gets old, and seems juvenile after too many), but is sensible and practical so far. And that's reflected in the overall tone of the writing; I find it kind of relaxing and enjoyable to read. But others may prefer a more insta-action-extreme-tension sorta thing (in which case I'd suggest DCC as one of the best of that type).
There's definitely some mystery (tbh I'm kinda confused about a few details at this pt), and danger looms over the MC and the very random collection of idjits she found upon arrival.
It's fairly early still, but I'm glad this one made it to RR and I've definitely added it to my follows.
