So what if the people don't like my babies? Screw them.

This is a story born for greatness, with a point of view not often seen in this type of book.
The overall story is fantastic! although the beginning is a little rough, once you get later in the story you just want to continue reading! with descriptive battles and a pretty well thought out system, as well as a pretty unique concept! You get to follow a cold main character and her awesome team!
The characters are each unique, with some having an obsessive tendency while others are calm and nonchalant.With unique backgrounds for each character and unexpected twists for others. You may think you know everything there is to know about a character, but when you dig a little deeper, you find yourself doubting if you actually know them as well as you thought you did.
The style is also pretty unique, although I cant quite tell how, it is simply a style not seen very often. Using color to highlight if it is actually talking or booming, or which character is speaking.
The grammar is also pretty good, although it could use some work. But over all it is not bad at all!
I absolutely love this book so far, and I think that others with the same liking of fast passed book with an op main character that encourages others with her strength, even if accidental.

Mistress of the Evil (formerly Dark?) Forest is a compilation of its parts. Meaning, whatever is there does not form a cohesive whole. It bounces between the ideas and genre tropes paying no heed to tying everything together. Which is always sad to see.
The story is peak mediocrity. Every singular story bit was done somewhere else but better. The crossover between evil monstrosity isekai and villainess isekai simply doesn’t hold water as both sides’ better parts are lost just to keep the variety going. And if the prologue is to be believed, the plot is heading full speed towards rather mindless power fantasy, which will inevitably invalidate the villainess part.
The identity crisis is obvious in the character department. There are two separate casts, one for monstrosity part and one for villainess part. Whatever part of the crossover is in focus, the other part just gets shelved with passing mentions. Thus even expecting any meaningful development in the supporting characters is foolish. As for the main duo, whilst Aurora at least reaches the bare minimum for a passable human being, Chloe… just doesn’t. She’s stuck being forever horny comic relief from the looks of it.
The style at the time of review undergoes a violent mutation. Bland first-person style with a strong wind of comics in it tries to give birth to something vaguely resembling third person limited whilst keeping the comic bits. The inconsistent nature of the process makes wading through it rather unpleasant, even if I myself like The New a bit more than The Old. All in all, the action scenes are bare bones LitRPG standard where everything that’s not numbers can be promptly skipped. Dialogues are somewhat believable and tagged in moderation, without going overboard on the usual “said is dead” mantra.
Grammar has its low moments where one can firmly say “no, that’s not how this sentence should go”. It’s not painful, but it’s noticeable enough to justify lowered score.
