Description

Does your back ache from reading too many trashy isekais in your cheap Costco chair?

Would you love a comfy sofa that adjusts to your posture?

Look no further!

Follow Brakar and Thadan as they try to go from piss-poor adventurers to Jeff Bezos-level moguls in the bustling city of Ironweave. How? By selling the most ingenious invention the world has ever seen: mimic furniture! That’s right—what’s better than ordinary furniture? Furniture that’s alive and can transform into any piece you need!

Thanks to Brakar’s rare magical accent that lets him control mimics, these shapeshifting creatures can seamlessly morph into the perfect chair, sofa, table—or even an entire set of matching décor. Need a dining table for a feast? Done. Pewdiepie's old $399 chair? Easy (just don’t cross a bridge with it). Mimics are the ultimate adaptable furniture, tailored to your every whim.

But success doesn’t come easy. Their venture is fraught with obstacles—ruthless competitors determined to crush innovation, suspicious customers who question the safety of living furniture, and the ever-present danger of being eaten by their own merchandise.

Can Brakar and Thadan navigate the cutthroat world of Ironweave commerce and prove that mimics really are the future of furniture in this laugh-out-loud tale of ambition, magic, andshapeshifting home décor?

I was expecting the first chapter to start with the shop already running but apparently not! The pacing is on the slower side but it allows time to unravel the relationship between Brakar and his mates, and have them set up a shop comprehensively. I won't spoil more but becoming shop owners wasn't what they had in mind in the first place, but is like a fresh start to them. Rooting to see how it goes!

Mimic & Co. is an absolute delight, delivering a fresh and incredibly hilarious take on fantasy storytelling. The concept of mimic furniture is not only unique but also serves as an excellent comedic vehicle, allowing for absurd yet oddly practical business ventures. The humor is razor-sharp, blending witty dialogue, satirical takes on adventurer economics, and moments of sheer ridiculousness that make this novel stand out. Beneath all the laughter, however, lies a story with surprising depth—one that explores ambition, friendship, and the chaotic nature of innovation in a fantasy world.
    Style
The writing style is punchy, immersive, and filled with personality. The novel thrives on sharp, fast-paced dialogue that feels natural and entertaining, allowing the characters’ quirks to shine. The blend of contemporary humor with a medieval-fantasy setting is masterfully handled, ensuring that jokes never feel out of place. The prose is crisp, avoiding unnecessary exposition while still painting vivid scenes. The balance between humor and worldbuilding is particularly impressive, as the setting feels rich without ever bogging down the pace. The comedic timing is impeccable, with every scene offering something to chuckle at, whether it’s the ridiculousness of sentient furniture or the sarcastic banter between characters.
    Story
At its core, Mimic & Co. is about two down-on-their-luck adventurers who decide to trade in their swords for a startup business. The setup is fresh and engaging, flipping the traditional adventurer’s journey on its head. The challenges they face—competitors, skeptics, and the inherent dangers of selling semi-sentient, possibly man-eating furniture—make for compelling and often absurdly funny obstacles. The plot moves at a steady pace, never feeling stagnant, as the protagonists transition from struggling adventurers to reluctant entrepreneurs. What makes the story work so well is that while the premise is humorous, the stakes feel real. It’s a fantasy

It has been a while since I have read something that made me want to read chapter after chapter, and now I can't wait for the next one. I was surprised that there were two main characters and not just a wimp as the MC. It gave me Dungeon Meshi vibes.

This story actually brought tear to my eyes. Chapter two was absolutely brilliant writing. It depicted a moment I belive most of us have experienced as we get to confront the bleak fact that we are not up to certain dreams we've chained ourselves to.
Style: The novel narrative has a not quite poetic cadence to some description but the hints of it are certainly there, in the way the words are used, which I actually loved.
Story: This is the story of Brakar and Thadan as they try to salvage their place in the challenging world they live in. It doesn't start with this though the author made sure to show us their down fall in overly vivid language. Which i absolutely love. And I also love how the idea for their shop is coming along.
Grammar: The grammar is solid and well editited.
Character: The Characters are absolutely brilliant, with promise of wonderful back stories and future growth. The two lead especially captivate my interest, I totally love Thadan, his vain ways are definitely not something I can relate to, and Brakar shy, yet confident ways is something of a phase I've gone through, so I find myself relating not just a little bit to these two characters.
Give this a read you'd totally enjoy it, I bet you.

This is funny as hell and surprisingly heartfelt in all the right places. The character banter is gold (snappy, natural, and full of the kind of sarcasm and dry humor that makes you feel like you're hanging out with real people). The group dynamic is one of the best parts, with each character bringing their own quirks and struggles to the table, making them feel like a dysfunctional but lovable found family.
Also, I have to say, the book cover is absolutely adorable and fits the vibe of the story perfectly. It’s got that fun, slightly chaotic energy that makes you want to pick it up and dive in immediately. You can just tell from looking at it that you’re in for a good time.
The story does a great job of balancing humor with real stakes. One minute you’re laughing at some ridiculous conversation, and the next things just got serious. It’s a refreshing take on adventuring that doesn’t just glorify heroics but also shows the grind, the struggles, and the sheer exhaustion of trying to make a living in a dangerous world.
(Btw, sorry for touching the mimic in the ad. Well, I guess I'm not sorry lol)

I was very intrigued by the dynamic of the group and worried that perhaps their development was on the slower side, but a few chapters in I can confidently say what you have here is something absolutely special and I just can't wait to see how the story develops.

Funny and well-paced, with good character dynamics and a well-put-together plot. The prose could be improved on, but it's good for Royal Road, with no grammatical errors and the occasional spot of especially good description or introspection. As the story's only getting started, time will tell if it manages to take its component elements and do something special.
