Waking up was supposed to be the start of a normal day—except now, he's a caterpillar. Stripped of his human form and memories, save for fragments of his old life on Earth, he finds himself in a hostile, alien world where everything is oversized, dangerous, and painfully real. Trapped in a tiny, fragile body, he must navigate his new existence, survive encounters with predators, and uncover the mystery of how he ended up like this.

It’s the typical monster evolution story, starting with a weak creature that evolves into stronger and stronger forms. The grammar and spelling is great. The style is great. The main character is smart and and plans ahead. This does feel like a high quality story. The only reason I dropped after 10 chapters is because it’s riddled with introspection and slow writing style. Which could change later in the story I would not know.
The story suffers from what I refer to as ‘early writer bloat’. It takes a while for authors to realize that sometimes less is more. The story is absolutely riddled with flowery and poetic language that drags on. Sometimes that’s good writing, BUT if it’s literally every single action and every single thought, you’re gonna have a bad time. The MC can’t just feel hungry… we need a whole paragraph filled with hyperbole and metaphors to really hammer the point home. I eventually found myself skipping over so much text just to get to what happens next. To be fair I only read 10 chapters and I like the story a lot, seriously it seems like there’s potential but for me this is a deal breaker.
If you are a brain rotted web novel reader as I am, then this story might frustrate you. If you like slow burns with plenty of deep introspection then you’ll love it.

Over the span of 45 chapters – quite a commitment if you ask me – Metamorphosis failed to provide even one reason to continue reading it. It is not enough to provide an unusual hook to start off a story – there’s meant to be a line to reel the catch in.
Usually that line comes in a shape of a plot. Here, there isn’t one. One and only thing the MC ever did on his own volition was to wander around aimlessly. The story, if it can be called that, is a sluggish void between constant life-or-death fights that always take the MC by surprise.
And the fights themselves just… don’t. The very first one was already all-out struggle to the last breath and last drop of whatever the fancy word for insect’s not-blood is. And then the next one was even more all-out, to the last-er breath. And the next one was even closer than that. This is not how it works, at all. If anything, it looks like a doomed attempt to squeeze more drama out of an overused vehicle to the point of it being absurd. Escalation requires having more things at play, but our MC goes nowhere from his moveset of bite, hide, and do some fire, while his foes make do with just bite.
Repetitiveness of story lends itself to repetitiveness of style. First round of “damn, I’m an insect” introspection felt somewhat fresh. The second re-iteration did not. The third one was annoying. Fights are comprised completely of cheap repetitive over-dramatic descriptions of the same thing over and over with little to no spatial awareness even once it becomes important. The whatever in-betweens carry little to no things to be interested in.
Character-wise we have the default isekai blank-slate MC. His one implied trait is used as an excuse, not as a tool to do anything interesting. “Oh, he’s an airhead” is not a valid reason to void the character’s capability to plan ahead and any sense of situational awareness for the sake of dramatic surprise encounters. Especially not after several consecutive near-death experiences.
