Description
When Persona meets Solo Leveling, an urban fantasy story set in a world altered by the Slayer System.
Haunted by constant tragedies, Alexander Shen seeks a normal life in the Slayer Capital of the world, the city-state of Ordo. Life has other plans for him.
His stable corporate job collapses (thanks to him) and mysterious monsters called "Alternates" attack him and his sister. Now, he's in the middle of a city-wide crisis and the best guild in the city wants him. Sounds crazy, but after living with an SSS-Rank [Skill] for several years, this is a typical world-altering event for him.
This time, there's no more running away.
Alex [Registers] into the Slayer System and joins hands with Angels Guild in order to bring an end to the chaos.
However, the questions run deep and the mysteries run deeper, penetrating not only his world but of the entire multiverse. Faced with innumerable threats both monster and human, Alex must carve a new, better life for himself and his loved ones.
Using [Memento Recollection], the ability to create weapons based on his relationships with others.

- Ekko1311Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0So this is my first Review. I usually don't bother because there are multiple I can agree with. This story is criminally underrated, so here we are!
Master of Mementos is character-driven storytelling at it's best.
This is a ReWrite of Order:Slayer which was taken of the Site last year. The old version was pretty damn good, but had it's problems. They mostly boiled down to the cast being too big and that cast having not enough time to really develop, because the first book was just one gigantic crisis.
The author, gushy, saw those problems and went back to the story board. Now he is back and I gotta say it was worth the wait. This review will mention stuff from the first chapter and general stuff without a spoiler tag. The rest get's one. Onto the actual story:
Story
This is a world about 100 years after a System-Apocalypse happened in the style of Solo-Leveling or Changeling. Society took a hit, but went back to normal at some point, so everything is mostly the same with some low-scifi stuff in-between. We follow Alex Shen during a turning point in his life in the Slayer Captital of Ordo! (Slayer are the system-touched of this world.)
This story isn't about a guy like you and me, but someone you know is special just from looking at him. He has no special system per se, but is unusually gifted.
The story starts with Alex working as an office worker during a party. His corporation just got a deal with a Big Guild in town, but Alex is being a party pooper. The reason being that the corporation doing some illegal stuff and Alex secretly reporting them. We also meet his sister and get a glimpse in his day-to-day life. The story starts like this and we follow the conflict between him and the corporation. His actions bring him into contact with some pretty strong Slayers and we learn a bit about his mysterious past.
Now written like this it sounds like not much, but it's very enjoyable to read. The beginning is more character-focused writing, which is imho the best part o - dksoloRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I’ve read published novels that were less well written and less well planned.
RR has a lot of power fantasy harem slop (which I love as its own genre, no shade) which forms the rough that this story is a diamond in. Wonderful world building which gets revealed piecemeal (as another reviewer complained) in a way that I found made the viewpoint character feel like he has more depth. The power system is actually more unique than the usual D-S-rank class system that everyone gets from Worm or Solo Leveling (or fanfiction thereof), but to say more would spoil some of it so I’ll leave it at that.
Good balance between hand holding, exposition, and immersive experience. There were a few characters and scenes where I forgot the relative relationships and politics, or even if they had been mentioned or foreshadowed. But if you pay attention you’ll pick it up, and in hindsight if I had paid closer attention, I would have had all the clues needed to keep up with the mysteries without having to wait until the exposition or plot twist to be explained.
Style, story, and character so far (I’ve read through volume 1) are full five stars - grammar is 4 because I ran into a few word or syntax choices that were briefly jarring but not enough to dampen my enjoyment of the story overall.
Can’t wait to catch up on the rest of the chapters - vaubaanRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Reviewed at the end of Volume 1.5 (since theres no chapter numbers)
Really interesting premise! I would say the vibes are similar to world-building heavy novels where theres a lot of critical information that isn't explained immediately, but you learn as the MC interacts with other characters and as the storyline progresses.
The story puts you headfirst into the plot, but I would say that's part of the charm and I wouldn't have it any other way. I really recommend reading until you catch up to the synopsis cause I think that's when the story truly picks up and you'll have your answers to major questions. The lack of cut and dry answers isn't a mistake from the author, but a way to do worldbuilding via character interactions and to build up suspense.
I really enjoy the Persona tie in cause this story does it really well, and I think it adds another dimension to the story. However, it isn't necessary to understand Perona at all.
The characters are well fleshed out, and they are unique in their own way. Then have their own motivations, likes, dislikes, and (sometimes quirky) personalities. I enjoy the interactions that occur between characters, and I would say its extremely realistic. Actions and behaviors make total sense, even some annoying characters ughhh ( ̄^ ̄) but being annoyed means that the author did well in writing. The slice of life portions are sooooo good. Also, the phone conversations are HILARIOUS omggg and the Twitter-like feed is funny (make sure to look at the usernames). Not to mention (small-ish spoiler)
The entire POV switch !!! Really enjoyed the payoff at the end of it, hope to see the other POV soon :))
Overall, if you enjoy long reads, complex characters with loads of trauma and sometimes a little crazy 🙈, not getting info spoon-fed, persona, and some crazy reveals, this is for you !!! - Van234Royal Road★★★★ 3.5Sooo this read is not for me. I got intrested because of annotation and that there will be weapon creation skill and interpersonal relationship.
From the start we are in the middle of the life of a man. Author if feeding us info about the world but it is irritating. He is using word Skill, corpo, sword, some korean\chinise specifics, which are not explained. And this can work for some kind of mistery\revelation. But when there is lot of it and it just feels too much, I do not want to guess what it means it is no plot related it is just bad writing.
Than there are interactions of MC with rest of the world, he moves like someone with power. But it feels empty, he is working so office job, and even talking about doing menial job. And of course, there is little sister he is taking care of (better that ill mother). He is doing a lot for her. But he is so rightageous that he wistleblowe a company that previously make a person dissapear (how he got access to that info? he is in his 20th, is infosec so bad? or he is so good?). Is he a hidden master or got a backing? Because it fells logical, that they will want him dead. I have no idea but it does not feels like he really thought about this.
I binge-read up to weapon creation. And it is just boring: righteguos MC, little sister, some super skill. And it can be fine if writing is light and adventures are cool. I may liked it more if he did not have a backstory, and developed it from scratch, but nope some legacy is already there. All A to S ranks skills obviosly, yada yada he is not slayer (have this powers permanently), it is temporary, because of something stupid I am sure. Nah this is not for me, he is not too OP for faceslaping, and not noob to enjoy his growth.
