Lately, I’d grown tired of reading high–fantasy novels, so I decided to take a dive into historical fiction and this has to be one of the best I’ve come across.
Reading about Oleksandr’s journey was an absolute delight. The story is rich and engaging, filled with memorable characters and a fascinating blend of Slavic, Scandinavian, and Balkan culture. You can feel the author’s passion shining through in every chapter and It’s clear how much care and effort went into this novel. This novel truly deserves more attention, and it’s a shame that novels like this get overlooked.

First of all: The illustrations are fantastic. There’s also a comic preview on the author’s Instagram, and it looks incredible.
The novel itself is well-written. Scene descriptions are detailed and immersive, really pulling you into the story. Some parts genuinely shine with quality. Chapter 70, for example, was especially well done. (I name it because it git released recently, not because its the best chapter) The writing clearly stands out, and it’s a shame that more people don’t get to experience it just because the Royal Road audience tends to prefer traditional fantasy.
The author follows a consistent release schedule, which is impressive. I’m writing this review for the author because his passion is rare and genuinely shines through. He clearly puts a lot of effort into his work, and it shows.
Now, onto the negatives (which are very personal opinions):
It’s not a fantasy novel at all. It leans toward a more grounded and serious tone, and on a larger scale, it feels like the protagonist won’t be able to change much, which lowers the sense of impact for me.
That said, this is mostly because I don’t enjoy this particular trope. It’s just not my thing, and the illustrations and the immersive writing were honestly what kept me going.
To the author: I’d love to see you pour this same level of passion into a true fantasy story. I think it would attract a much larger audience. Also I think merging both books would be better. I didn't notice directly that they are connected
