- seafloorRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5An initial review of what i have seen
The first chapters can be confusing as the protagonist realizes he is now a pokemon in the pokemon world, he needs to adapt accordingly while making mistakes and learning along the way in an unfamiliar enviroment, after the starting confusion and with the help from a system meant for trainers, he is on route to explore oceans and freezing lands alike and maybe to make some interesting friends,
As the mc is a pokemon, don't be too surprised when there are chapters from the Pov of humans talking about the world or their reactions to something.
The grammar while not to the point of fluid its readable without major problems, but that might change for the better as the author has shown improvemnts in his grammar and writing and is planning to fix the first chapters into a better reading experience.
The good thing about pokemon fanfictions is that they can explore the world past the limits of the game series, and while following the journey of a trainer works too, i think the world of pokemon has much more to offer when seen through the eyes of a pokemon, traveling into different enviroments, partecipating in the food chain, finding rare type mutations and in general not thinking about the next gym badge.
Bonus point for the review because in pokemon fanfictions you are hard pressd find ice types that are not alolan vulpix or articuno, also a great deal of adventure is done on land while ignoring all that you might find in the oceans and poles, so naturally if i find something about a ice type pokemon exploring the ocean i will be more interested in supporting it.
The only thing that might ruin the experince is how he decides to handle his interactions with humans and trainers, there has been some contact between the two but its too little to make a good judgement.
Im biased towards ice types, make of that what you want. - AannddiiRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Everyone has a story that they like and I like this one pokémon stories are pretty good I am feeling Vorfreude for the next chapter but the main character might needs some emotion boosters he feels a bit hollow every act of the main character feels like he was controlled with strings like a puppet if this isn't part of the plot the main character needs emotion boosters
- FOULdragonRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5When I first started reading the first couple chapters I almost didn't continue reading. 'Where is this?' I thought. 'What is going on?' Where is the Pokemon I know and why is everything so vicious and bloodthirsty?' At first things didn't seem all that well thought out. Just a weak unknown Pokemon once human barely surviving having been thrust into the middle of death. That changed once I reached the chapter that switched character perspectives. What became mystery and confusion to the main character now becomes obvious and sensible to us as readers. The main character is in fact in the world of Pokemon, just not the familiar part of it.
There is enough time separation to not feel forced along existing story tracks in games or anime, yet not enough that the elements from those very topics can't been used to tease any fans of the series. This allows the author to be fairly flexible and original in their story telling. There's a lot of detail I think that is hidden behind unrevealed information due to how short the story still is. Rather then dumping everything on the reader at once we're given the information when it makes sense in the story. This leaves the reader in the dark a bit for some things but that doesn't mean there aren't clues.
While at first the story seemed basic and barebones, once I figured out there was more to this beneath the surface I really got to enjoying it. Sometimes the alternative POV chapters draw things out just a tiny bit when things get intense, however they're still necessary for giving you information and context for certain things. It's also important to break up the high tension moments with more light-hearted conversations as well. I can also tell the author clearly enjoys the work and time they spend on this story. There is a lot of thought that goes into detail we learn about and probably a lot more thought into details we'll never see at all.
The grammar unfortunately is where things fall a little behind. It's almost never to th - AcryphysxiaRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0So I've read up to CH15 and so far I see no apparent grammar issues. The flow of the story is a bit...weird? The MC character feels a bit 2D and it's almost as if he has no emotion. The title also has no relation to the story so far asides from one medical technique. I have yet to see him provide medical aid or anything.
His savior just died yet there is no pain and regret asides from a few sentences
also the interaction feels a bit forced and weird. It's hard to focus on the story when the characters act like NPCs. It's a decent read if you shut off your brain IG, but hopefully it does better! Best of luck Author - Benjamin MwakonyaRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Reading this was an interesting experience to say the least. Usually, in stories with RPG mechanics, the systems and skill trees take centre stage. It's all about getting better skills and reaching higher numbers in order to progress, but while this story has skills and whatnot, it places its character front and centre. Let's get into the specifics:
÷ Style - this may be the story's biggest weakness. For some reason, tenses are randomly changed and I found it really jarring at first. The prose is really fluid and allows you to get into the world, but the tense switches are awkward to say the least.
÷ Story. - The story is very... unique, to say the least. It's less like a series of escalations that push the plot forward and more like a continuous fight for survival for our protagonist. I don't really want to spoil anything, but I really enjoyed reading how Adam, our MC, reacts and responds to the many hardships he encounters. I laughed out loud when, after encountering a certain crustacean, even I started developing a strong hatred for crabs!!! So yeah, it's not the most conventional story, but dammit is it fun.
÷ Grammer - eh. Not much to say. Some errors here and there, but ìts nothing so bad that it takes you out of the story. The author also responds to comments indicating mistakes, which is a plus I my books.
÷ Characters - Ah... the characters. Fun, lovable, charming and other adjectives. It's not easy making human characters memorable. But I think its even harder to make non human characters stand out, but every Pokémon we encounter in the story is memorable and interesting. I have a list of characters that i genuinely grew attached to and watching them fight for survival was tense and enjoyable.
÷ Overall - This story is more about its characters than its systems and if you're ready for a fun Pokémon based adventure (expect some tears) then read this! 4/5 - TearlessfutureRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0As this is still low in chapters I will keep it to a simple review. I quite enjoy the progress so far. The progress of the story is smooth and doesn't feel rushed as well unlike many non human transmigration stories this one doesn't feel like humans showing up is rushed or unwarranted.
- CF_HoneyBadgerRoyal Road★★★ 3.0I love the plot so far, the MC gets into some fun hijinx once he meets his trainer. It's a fun read if you just turn your brain off for a bit and just enjoy the story.
However, there are some HUGE glaring issues with how speech is formatted. The author seems to have just said "f*** actual grammar rules, I'll do what I want", and that quotation marks are unnecessary. Large speech blocks are indented using the "quote" formatting with the indented bar on the left side.
There are several chapters where characters alternate talking, and the author uses play notation (???) where the character's name is displayed, followed by their dialogue. It's VERY weird.
Telepathic communication is formatted weird as well. Like I mentioned earlier, if you can ignore the bizarre at times formatting and just read, you'll enjoy this, but you have to ignore a LOT of formatting errors to get to the meat of the story.
Why does RR require 200 words. I've said my peace. Good story. Weird formatting. Easily fixed. Needs editor. Love the MC powers. Lit RPG fits so well into pokemon verse, i love the premise. Was sad when I ran out of chapters to read.
