- Cjbaron92Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0"Masters of Kai-Yo is a story that focuses heavily on the worldbuilding of its universe. Between chapters, the author includes supporting character introductions, and you can feel the author's love for these characters, making each one unique and special.
Style: The worldbuilding is extensive, with a rich vocabulary that you need to follow closely, including terms like Folk, Taur, Akila, and MegaFolk—each with distinct physical traits, abilities, and cultural backgrounds. Talents such as Pulsing, Pushing, and Pulling are integral to the story. Also different fighting art such as Folk Fighting Art Belna, Geriyucha, like all RiverWood Fighting Arts so abit hard to keep up. I would recommend adding an appendix or blue boxes to describe some of these concepts and abilities so your reader can refer back later when they go in further into later chapters.
Grammar: The grammar is generally fine, with only minor errors.
Characters: You can feel the author's affection for each of the characters. Some chapters primarily focus on introducing supporting characters and expanding the worldbuilding. If I had to choose a favourite character, I think the Akila girl is pretty cool and memorable with her talon attacks. I was surprised when Tayin tried to recruit Izai, adding a twist to plot. - InkDragon.Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0I am very impressed with what I have read so far. I would love to see how the system in this novel would unfolds. The fight scenes are written with great perfection, the grammar accuracy is very high. The worldbuilding in this novel is sure to give us new surprises. The interaction between the characters is seamless, give the shadow of an actual conversation and emotions.
The novel's characters focus is equally impressive. The interactions between the fighters, each with their own distinct personalities and motivations, enrich the story and provide a perfect balance to the intense action. The humor and friendship among the characters offer a refreshing contrast to the high-stakes battles, making for a well-rounded and enjoyable narrative.
The detailed depiction of the of the background settings creates a vibrant and immersive setting that feels both expansive and intimate. The details are very exceptional.
Overall, Masters of Kai-Yo is a must-read for fans of progression fantasy, fighting games, and wrestling. It delivers a thrilling and emotionally resonant journey that is as entertaining as it is innovative. This novel is a shining example of how genre-blending can lead to something truly extraordinary. I am really excited for upcoming chapters… - LilyOfTheWillametteValleyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Masters of Kai-Yo is thus far a wholesome fighting game story, featuring a medium-sized cast of characters with complex relationships with one another. It's very heavy on the world building, which is thorough enough that the story realistically feels like it's taking place on a different planet; as a result, it takes an investment of time and attention to follow all the information about the setting that you're given.
Grammar: overall, the grammar was great. The punctuation could be improved in some places, but I had no problems following the story.
Character: the characters all had interesting conflicts and goals that set them in interesting relationships with the other characters. They all had a distinct personality and way of talking. They weren't particularly complex, but for this story, I don't think too much complexity is necessary.
Story: I don't think I got beyond the exposition, but the set-up promised an interesting fighter story with fun, varied characters and original fight scenes. There's a number of interesting plotlines that I'm curious to see resolved.
Style: the density of the world-building made the story difficult for me to follow and become invested in. I think it could benefit from some info dumping equity. However, the style was overall really fun and earnest, which made the story fun to read. - RavensFantasyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Style/Story:
Magic system - the magic system seems unique and different. As there is mention of Push and Pull in reference to the characters abilities. Each character seems to have a different power which makes it more interesting to read.
Worldbuilding - the story has some great worldbuilding details spaced out within the chapters. Making the world come together.
Descriptions - there are plenty of descriptions throughout the story, captivating the reader. Descriptions like the purple and blue strobe lights, the weight of the Silver Ball and others caught my attention.
Fight Scenes - the fight scenes are described well and are interesting to read.
Style - the story is mainly written in third person and is consistent with its writing style. The overall style of the story is very descriptive, full of worldbuilding, and information that is needed about each character and their ability. There are unique terms that go hand in hand with things like the magic that is used between characters, terms like Push and Pull.
Overall - overall the story seems to be written well. Prose is generally good, chapter length and paragraph length is good.
Grammar: Overall, the grammar is pretty good. I didn’t really see any errors on my part, just some missing punctuation marks here and there.
Characters: So far, the characters are enjoyable. They are described well and introduced well into the story. Each character having a different power is something that I enjoyed as it made the characters more unique. Each character that has been introduced so far seems to be distinct and have their own personality. I have no complaints about any of the characters yet.
In Summary: In summary, the story grabbed my attention and was able to pull me and keep me reading. The story has a unique magic system, great worldbuilding, and descriptions that tie in the story nicely. Overall, the story is nicely done so far. - SRadioactiveRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Overall - Absolutely beautiful work! The characters are outstanding, the world-building is just absolutely masterclass. I don't think it matters what genres you prefer. This is worth a read.
Style - Absolutely seamless. We get a view of a few different characters and it flows very well between those chapters. The content itself is well written without any snags in the reading experience. The author truly knows what they are doing. Without burdening the reader, they get deeply into a very unique world, but more on that in a moment.
Story - This is the real section I wanted to get into—the story - just wow. The author gradually builds such a thought out world it is absolutely unreal. All the details are there. It feels like the real world because nothing is described as a catalog - just as fact. The races, the prejudices, the justice system, the restaurants - and the most important - the sports. The experience you get from this story is just walking into this world and being handed an all-access pass to an event with bird beaks, tails, and singed shoes. The magic system is crafted in my favorite way - with clear limitations and consequences. But, more than that, there is a widely accepted competition that requires the practice and honing of these powers. Just like anything in the real world would, the characters are not given god-like powers and have to earn them like any other teenagers/young adults.
Grammar - The author’s grammar is better than mine so.
Characters - I am incredibly impressed at how real the characters feel. Their reactions are natural, their struggles are relatable, and their wants and aspirations are very realistic in that they exist within the immediate confines of their lives rather than the grand scheme of things. Who of us dreamt of taking over the world right off the bat? Maybe some, but I personally wanted to get the prize for the best drawing in kindergarten class. And in this, they become deep and meaningful to the reader. This is the case - cosmic_lonewolfRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5The story has a premise, which may not be the most original thing but that a good thing. Because it's a premise that makes it easy for authors to tick all the boxes that make a story good.
STYLE:
The style of the writing is vivid and imaginative, particularly in the descriptions of the characters and their unique abilities. The world-building is well done but lacks some of the subtler touches to make it feel lived in. My minor grievance is that the author should sometimes show us how the characters feel during intense scenes.
STORY:
The story has a solid foundation with its focus on the underground fighting world and the main character's struggle. However, it suffers from pacing issues, especially during fight scenes where the action feels too rushed. The author has tried to keep fights realistic and quick but that makes them feel too quick to reader and the scene then loses its impact.
GRAMMAR:
The grammar is generally strong, with only a few minor errors or awkward phrases.
CHARACTERS:
The characters are distinct and have potential, especially in their diverse abilities and backgrounds. Katalia, in particular, is a well-drawn protagonist with clear motivations and internal conflict.
