- DoggeralRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I'm giving this story the highest rating I can after having completed book 1. My reasons are many, but mostly it's because I found the main character delightful. I like the way he thinks, I appreciate his philosophy, and is just enough of a goof to provide many funny encounters. Overall, I'm impressed enough that I recommend this without reservation, I'm will definitely be following the author in the future.
- Set BennuRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0An interesting look at the world of cultivation with the world's most cowardly cultivator. A man who makes us laugh because rather than being beaten down by the unfair world he preemptively lays down before it can. A refreshing MC who doesn't care for revenge and tries to be upstanding even as people try to kill him. The lengths he goes to play dead makes it funny how stupid focused on killing cultivators are.
- TashiDawaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0It's great. Well written, great characters, lots of tropes while breaking crappy tropes, smart characters who have distinct personalities that develop along side the MC, strong women who aren't just "girl bosses" but capable intelligent humans, great plot arcs and reveals.
I've read a fair bit, and this is one of my favorite emerging fictions - highly suggested. - oort objectRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0significantly better than a will eternal. much cooler and funnier protagonist and and other characters in general, much more thought put into its world. its not even close. the dao of playing dead is deep indeed.
wishing xiao hui the best of fortune in fulfilling his destiny of joining bai xue's harem - Reader12345679Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0An expertly crafted story with an interesting plot and no boring parts imo. It was a pleasant experience watching the plot progress and the characters grow in their own little ways. From the interesting aspects of undead cultivation which thrill the listener to how undead qi was explored this aspect was a nice twist. Not only that but in my opinion the drama within the clans and the battle for providence between the cultivators and sects was well illustrated as well as alliences and how they actually function in these situations.
- SK_BearerRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Overall, this is an addictive, funny, while also serious, story. The MC has a bit of a ridiculous past as a basis, however, the MC is appropriately ridiculous themselves in their death faking. If you accept the one, the other follows in a natural feeling way.
Style-wise, the flow is both quick enough and slow enough that you don't feel rushed nor are you grumbling about getting to the point. If anything, like all truly good stories, the enjoyable combat scenes are NOT what you are waitng for. You are, instead, waiting for the character interactions, the internal development, and even the rare other character perspectives of the MC themselves.
Grammar, I have to say with great joy, is excellent. That is a thing to be treasured, not just on RR but even in paper published works, it is upsettingly common to find vocabulary, grammar, and spelling errors. If I encountered any in this work, they were so rare and minor that they were instantly overlooked.
The Story is enjoyable, becomes increasingly rich, and has a feeling of interconnection so it doesn't strike you as a randomly concieved plot as the author went along. Neither does it foreshadow heavily, so you are truly along for the ride in the best possible way. Without giving away too much, you will not be dissappointed by the gradual development of plot complexity coincident with the MC engaging more and more with the broader world, as if the MC is simply learning of an already existing and rich world.
Character-wise, the MC is excellently well developed. The theme for the MC is intentionally over the top and the MC fits it neatly and without feeling forced. The other characters are a bit lackluster in theri development, so I couldn't give this category top marks. Some of them, such as Li Xiang (who becomes very pivotol in some ways) starts to feel less developed as the story goes along despite increasing significance. Others, such as Bai Xue, begin feeling underdeveloped and grow into something not quite cohesive wit - Nikhil1guruRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Anyone who has read at least 2 volumes will definitely have a great idea regarding the comedy which forms a huge part of this webnovel. However we also see dark undertones cleverly interspersed by the author. Action and adventure are also plentiful and after the initial world building is done almost non stop. The mystery about how our MC was isekaied is so very fascinating and well done compared to just having Truck-kun make an appearance. Cultivation/ Progression fantasy readers should definitely give this book a chance
- BoredHandsRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5This is such a wonderful story, I'm very happy to have read it. So much fun, laughter and even lessons to learn from even if it wasn't intentional.
This story deals with an Isekai who is very humble to a fault, comedy scenes and masterful handling of situations.
Of course, there are situations where sometimes logic doesn't apply, some characters are forgotten or people can be dumb. Nevertheless, the story was still very enjoyable for me
Even though I do not watch anime, I think it would make for a good adaptation. I love the characters, from lowly bug Hui and Bai to the otherworldly seniors, the Weihengs - SnakefistRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0This book is primarily a comedy, and that is in my opinion its biggest weakness, because if you don’t find it funny, you probably won’t enjoy reading this book. What people find funny or not is entirely subjective, so my advice is to at least try it out regardless of reviews. If you like it, great. Of you don’t, it wasn’t for you.
For me, I really liked the first volume (108 chapters), I laughed out loud quite a few times and had a smile on my face during most chapters, but the second volume just wasn’t working for me. The author relies heavily on coincidences, luck and small misunderstandings for both comedy and plot progression, and I don’t know if it became too repetitive or too unbelievable, but the second volume was a bit too much for my tastes. To be fair, there might be more to some of those coincidences, but unfortunately, they are presented as simple coincidences most of the time and it is mostly speculation on my part whether there is anything more there.
The main character can be quite unlikable depending on your tastes. He is a coward and a wimp. He doesn’t like fighting or pain, and while he says that he wants to avoid trouble, he always, unwittingly and oh so coincidentally, ends up causing chaos around him. He is constantly groveling at the feet of people even weaker than him because he wants to avoid conflict and doesn’t care about pride or reputation. His fighting style of pretending to die when his opponents touch him was funny and entertaining in the beginning, but as many other things in this book I feel like it was a bit overdone as the story progressed. He also gets very contradictory with what he says or thinks and what he does. Quite a few times he proceeded to do dangerous things that either he knew beforehand were dangerous or was told not to do them because they were dangerous while saying that he wants to avoid danger and just stay alive with poor excuses that are there to try and make the situation funny. It doesn’t work most of the time - Pink PantherRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5For starters, I must say it is interesting but you need to shut your brain down when reading it just like when you are reading a manhua. It's intriguing but there are some problems here and there. It's readable but they need to proofread it. The plot armor. Man, that solution to everything everytime he got into a problem is powerful. The random power ups. The sect he join where there is no rules and every disciple can just kill each other. Bro you still need to use common sense and such even if it was a chinese novel. A group will break down even if you do everything to keep it if there is no rule to keep everyone in check. The sect just doesn't make any sense to me at all. The Peak Lords can decide whether to give resources to other peaks if they don't like the other Peak Lord or a disciple from there they can just forbid them from getting the resources they need keep in mind that they're all members of the same sect and the odd thing is the Sect Leader is allowing it. Peak Lords, I think it is equivalent to Elders or even higher because they owned mountains but even then the Peak Lords have petty beefs and isht and is ready to kill each other instead of prioritizing the growth of their disciples. There's this town too or market in one of the peaks but who are they selling the resources to? Their own disciples. Does that make any sense at all? Resources should be provided not sold for even worse for their own disciples where do the disciples get their money? I think from the sect. Only the peaks can promote an outer disciple too. There are still some problems but there are just too many. Author needs to use common sense.
Understand that it is a chinese novel and there will be alot of chinese jokes that won't make sense when translated into english and when you read it. I just hope the author don't get to heavy on that matther tho. I'll still read a few more and maybe drop it.
