Marrow

Description

Marrow was old... older than me or you. Older than the nation he lived in. And older than anyone he knew. Which is not surprising, because he did not know anyone else. He had been sitting, or perhaps leaning is the more apt expression, in a closet for many, many years, and had done nothing but stare.

But eating, or rather chewing, a spider opened up another world to him. A world with a voice that was talking to him - to HIM! Marrow did not get what the voice was saying, but that was secondary at this point.

And Marrow started to feel restless.

Nuff said.

If you like a sometimes quirky skeleton as the main character and want to ride along for its coming of age, or perhaps rather coming of sapience story... give it a shot. It is a litrpg context with skills, levels, heroes and monsters... and a skeleton. Not sure yet how fast the skeleton will level... we'll have to wait and see.

As a disclaimer... this is my secondary novel... my main story is ongoing and most of my time is dedicated to that. As such, new chapters will, at first, be rather infrequent and irregular. If things go well, I may shift more attention to the story, but we shall see how things go.

Neat as well as sufficiently entertaining. Good stuff produced by good work.

This story puts a smile on my face, not anything to 'heavy' so far, might see that later.
Would recommend it as a read. As of Chapter 10 I've been enjoying myself with the characters and the slow but steady world building.
Hopefully it doesn't go the "I'm evil now, die everyone I'm a super dark character feel the edge" I personlly prefer these types of stories more chaotic neutral

My title really says it all. This story is also nearly flawlessly written with beautiful descriptions, a vibrant underlaying world, and a rich cast of characters.
The villains are subtle and though the main character is a slave she still feels like she has agency.
Just give it a read. Trust me.

This story, in my opinion, holds good potential. The protag for this one is strikingly ignorant and unintelligent to his world providing a funny narrative about a wandering skeleton and his antics. With a decent level of writing and no obvious plot holes. It provides a solid beginning and a story which I look forward to continue reading.
Overall, an interesting and enjoyable story. +1.1 respect

I'm still early in my reading of "Marrow," and I may edit my review in the future. That said, if the current trends hold, I think this fiction is deserving of some serious acclaim.
The pacing of the story is steady. It puts you right into the world of the novel with little handholding, which I personally didn't mind (though a map would be immensely helpful). I quickly got a sense of who Marrow was and the unfortunate circumstances she begins in. The early tread of the novel is standard—enslaved child brought into new and better, though still dubious, circumstances—but promises excitement as Marrow adjusts to her new world.
The writing in Marrow is generally excellent. No complaints there.
Two chapters in and I'm already engrossed in the world and in the characters. Marrow is complex—bright, but already sporting a clear inferiority complex. The "adults" of the world are a mixture of nasty, sleezy, or generally untrustworthy, with few exceptions.
I look forward to reading on and seeing how the plot progresses. So far it's been somewhat understated and sort of "slice-of-life", which I enjoy. It's a refreshing change from some of the other top-heavy fiction on Royal Road. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if there's plenty of action in store.
So if you're looking for a fleshed out world with compelling characters and a nuanced plot, give "Marrow" a read!

I just finished reading up to chapter 10, and it's surprisingly engaging for a book about a skeleton. This is pretty good for a hobby.
The humor is nice. The grammar is solid. And the story just makes you curious to find out what Marrow will do. It'll be interesting to see how his character will grow later on.
All aroud, it's a fun little story. Probably too early for a 5 star, so I'm just gonna leave it at 4.5 because I'm nice like that.

Fun read so far, very interesting way of portraying a non-human intelligence

Marrow is a story about a skeleton. Unlike, however, the skeletons in most fantasy stories, he is not some undead beast who desires the death of all living things, nor is he some mindless obedient thrall.
The audience is introduced to Marrow when his creator, a student at a Magic school of sorts, attempts to create an intelligent undead.
The mage succeeds, however, due to Marrow's intelligence, commands given to Marrow are not obeyed, unless Marrow wants to. The only command the mage can give him in the end, turns out to be "Do something".
    Marrow happily obeys, by existing.
His creator disgustedly stuffs him into a closet, and the very next day, the Mage Academy is attacked, and the building left to ruin.
Centuries later, a group of daring adventurers find out about ruined building, said once to house many promising mages and magicians.
In this time, Marrow has been merely chewing on spiders.
The two groups meet, and a few misunderstandings, and a hell of a lot coincidence, allows Marrow to form a strange bond with them.
And that is where the story has reached, at the time of writing for this review.
Grammar is perfectly fine, displeasing only to the most picky of readers.
Characters are good as well, and it is hard to leave out things when the main character is simply a skeleton who does nothing but chew spiders.
While the story is just a wee bit rough around the edges, that is simply because the author is working on a entirely different story at the same time as writing this, and as such, might be a little frazzled.
Definitely give this a try, if you are a fan on non-human leads, fantasy, and overall general humour.
