Mage Mage

Description

In Lacurna, the most powerful city in the civilised world, magic is completely useless.

Or at least, that's what everyone thinks. Including Alix, who didn't want to take the class at all. All he wanted was to become a scholar and take part in the scientific enlightenment rocking the country. But it couldn't be easy. When a group of underground mages mistakenly capture him, they introduce him to the uglier side of pretty Lacurna, where magecraft is a powerful tool locked in a chokehold by the Crown to keep the population under their control. These criminals offer Alix knowledge, and to a mage, knowledge is all the power in the world.

Because Alix will need all the power—and allies—he can get to survive the storm threatening to topple the city.

Mage Mage is a historical-based, urban-esque progression fantasy with undercover mage schools, court/gang politics and general stealthy-spellcraft shenanigans. Instead of our heroes adventuring across the lands, we explore the depths of a sprawling metropolis in a more noir style. Expect a more gritty, magical-realism tone.

Update schedule: haven't decided yet, but my hefty backlog should keep us afloat.

Just starting reading it and I’m loving it so far. The writing style is detailed but concise and the plot goes along well while keeping the tension high.
if you’re looking for a new, fresh fantasy novel I highly recommend it. The characters are interesting and intricate and you can see they’re own personalities really well.
I’m excited to continue reading and experience more of the fantasy world the book surrounds as well as seeing the characters develop and learn more about magic.

I don't write reviews normaly, but I feel compelled to do it here so this hidden gem of a story gets more popular.
The world is immersive and the plot is interesting a with twists to surprise you. There is a constant air of mystery which I love and the characters, although being the weakest part of the story have posed no issues for the experience so far.
Its been so refrenshing to read something like this in the sea of litrpg and xianxia stories on this site, that I honestly can't recommend it enough.
