Description

“I’m going to be the brightest Star in the world!”

This is the sentiment of every young luminescent—particularly Mindie Tachibana-Callahan. After all, the world is crawling with Shades that bring darkness and wreak havoc wherever they happen to appear. With her ambition aimed high, she fights for her goal of finishing the school’s annual Shade-slaying competition as the undisputed, top-seeded Star. A story like this is practically begging for her to be its protagonist.

At least, that’s how Pike DeSanto sees it.

As Mindie’s best friend of meager presence, Pike graciously accepts his role as a side character in this story. Although, being a luminescent himself often means he still gets caught up in the chaos. Literally.

WHat a great intro into the world of Luminence!  In every culture around the world there is duality. The Black Wolf and the White Wolf, Yin and Yang, Light and Darkness, Good and Evil in Baltazyr's new novel, The Luminances and the Shade battle ina choatic battle to keep the world in order, or tear it apart.
Mindie and Pike are among the Luminated, but will they lead the war, or are they merely minions in the struggle for all humanity?
This is a fun story with a lot of wonder and adventure. If you like new systems of magic and interesting dynamic situtations this might be right your alley!
I was not a huge fan of the style, it was much more narrative then I like, but the narrative was done well and clean. This might just be a style perference of mine.
The grammar in the dialogue was off. I am not expert and it did not change my opnion of the story over all.
The story shows such imagination and creativity that I wanted to see it illistrated. If writing novels isn't what the writer wants to do, graphic novel would be awesome!
I think the characters were defined and established. You knew their ambision and desires, From Mindies impatience to Pikes energy it was all plain to see, and it added color and atmosphere to the story as a whole.
    Well done
