Lost in Love

Description

My name is Alexander Halesworth, sole heir to a prestigious ducal house. Or rather, that’s what my identity is supposed to be now. I still haven’t gotten used to this whole situation yet.

Not long ago I was just a humble store clerk. But shortly after getting into an unfortunate road accident, I woke up in the setting of an infamous Otome Game called “Lost in Love: A Heart Throbbing Romance in a Fantasy World~!”

Yeah. It’s even trashier than it sounds. Don’t judge me, it was a gift from a friend.

*cough* Anyway, this situation wouldn’t be too bad, except I ended up in the body of the worst possible person: the villainess’ older brother. Alexander has great looks, near limitless wealth, and a thoroughly rotten personality. In most of the game’s endings I end up dead or exiled. My family also falls to ruin, and don’t even get me started on what happens to my evil little sister.

Well, whatever. If that’s the hand fate dealt me, then I just have to prevent the bad ends, right? And if I have no choice but to deal with this family’s baggage, I may as well enjoy myself while I’m at it. Being filthy rich and powerful has its benefits.

For example, this cute maid who I get to tease whenever I want.

(Male lead otome reincarnation, inspired by Akuyaku Reijo Ni Koi Wo Shite and similar works)

This is the first book I am reading on royal road and I am enjoying it so far. I have always liked the reincarnation and transmigration themes. I haven't read the book entirely, but the first few chapters got me hooked. Looking forward to read more. Nice work !! :)

What I love about this story is how the author set himself up for advancement. It feels like he could take the story in any direction and I would still be hooked. The possibilities for different locations, new characters, and different arcs is almsot endless.
Just a wonderful story I really hope the author picks up sooner or later.

Really hope the author doesn't drop this. It's well written, and definitely one of the most enjoyable stories on here.

Nice. It reminds me of other otome transfer novels. Although I've only read two or three that are light hearted/not tragedies. I'm at chapter 22 right now. I really like how there seems to be a lot of friction between him and his environment. It's a good mix of suspense and genuineness. Suspense in terms of there's still a lot of bad endings he has to worry about, such as corruption or his family being such poopy dicks, and genuineness in that this mc is rather proactive in fixing things. I like the friction, and some of that is because we don't know how people will react to his actions. There's some suspense besides the overarching plot- he may be immune to punishment but his servants are not.
I'm assuming, after reading 20 chapters, that this will be a light hearted story, with small hiccups here and there. So far it seems like so long as the mc wills it, the fixes will happen. I like that currently it's not a snap of the fingers, and it's a rather slow process [so I like that it seems realistic that things immediately don't become a 10/10 utopia]. But, as I've said before, it does seem like so long as the mc wills it, it will go towards that. On one hand I wish that this wasn't the case; I can see it just being a cycle of the mc wants something good to happen into good things happen, which is pretty consistent in these types of otome stories. I don't like how it's such a repeatable pattern. But, maybe going away from this is a mistake as well- tropes shouldn't be avoided just because they are tropes. So far I think a healthy mix of at least a sprinkle of looming suspense and these good intentions might be the winning play. I assume at one point a lot of things are going to be hunky dory. Not sure what would be good then. I imagine too much suspense would be a bad thing. Who knows! I don't.
Regardless of whether there is a long cycle of good intentions into good results, I hope that there is more casual/harmless misunderstandings, more comedy[ by more I don't mean

I rarely review any story because I think some reviews already give my opinion but this time I did not see it so hence why this is here.
So there are really no problems via grammar or even development of the story in general but I have an issue with how Alexander is so immune to suspicion by the people of the house.
You would think that after so much agony he has cause there would be more resentment towards him. I mean the only time I felt such resentment came from his own sister. The drastic shift makes it odd how the parents aren't questioning him.
This was one of the few thoughts inside my head but besides that I am fine with everything else.

The story is competently executed. The description and setting are not heavily described, but that's more of a 'not a strength' of the story than an actual weakness. The characters are executed with grace and without expositional boringness, though here too the execution is good rather than great. The comedy too is serviceable, and the romance is both tasteful and effective, if currently rather subdued.
The worldbuilding is not, perhaps, as deep as I'd like it, but it works for the story, so I can't give it crap for that except as a matter of personal taste (I read Brandon Sanderson partly for the worldbuilding)
If I had a complaint it's that I'm not sure the characters are going anywhere in terms of character development, though that could easily be an aspect of the stage the story is in or that simply not being a goal of the story. In retrospect, the set-up with the sister was well done, and the current flow of the story in that direction is quite good.
Overall, I would consider this a good story, but not a great one- to reference Twain, it's the lightbulb when compared to lightning or a lightning bug. I'm looking forward to the next update.
