A chance encounter. A dangerous power. And a betrayal beyond imagining...

Órlaith's kept her magic a secret her whole life, fearful of the fate that befalls the spellweavers - the unlucky few with powerful enough magic to catch the wrong person's attention.

Until she - literally - runs into Leolin. He's a spellweaver just like her - except the magehunters already caught him. And they want him back.

When Órlaith's whole world burns down around her, the two of them flee to the near-mythical City, said to be the only place in the realm where spellweavers can live without fear.

But who is the mysterious Gwydion, who seems determined to stop them from reaching the City? And is the City everything it seems to be - or is there something else hiding beneath its shimmering towers?

The Long Bridge To The City is a number of things, some of whom are easily known from quite early in the story. It's about people born as notable magic users different from normal folk being singled out not for being weird, but for being dangerous opportunities for profit that get hunted down and enslaved by entrenched insitutions. After that it's about a journey to a mythical(?) place said to exist where magic users are instead normal citizens and maybe it's also sort of a utopia with a cultured and enlightened society that if you're really lucky might even have toilets or something. A lot of the story is just fleeing from murder, persecution, betrayal, and some oddly handsome(?) guy who really wants to imprison the two main characters for seemingly nefarious motives but who knows. They do actually find out the truth of the legends of possible salvation for mages hiding out somewhere in a random brush in the wild and it's a good thrilling journey getting there as well as being a good interesting climax revealing the end destination and what does or does not truly exist about what is said about mage salvation.
It also seems to be the first book in what is (hopefully?) a series. A good evening read. Would recommend. Much interesting.

Though obviously it's just the first chapter at the moment, I enjoyed reading through this and I'm looking forward to more - it has well written prose, some worldbuilding that I'm already liking and most importantly just enough of a story hook to leave you intrigued as to how things will continue.
