- Haru Desu KattoRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0This is a really cute and emotional story, that made me both smile and cry. The subject matter is rather heavy, but the author keeps it light, with an optimistic main character.
I'm going to point out some flaws, but only so the author will know what was done well and what they could improve. Regardless of flaws, it's still very good, and I've added it to my "favorites" list as something I'd like to read again.
Style - I am guessing that the writer is not a native English speaker. If so, they've done an amazing job getting this into English. However, it's somewhat painful to read since each sentence is a new line. Normally, you'd need paragraphs to separate ideas and thoughts. Written this way, it feels awkward, disjointed, and flighty - as if the main character can't think deeply. On the other hand, the dialogue is great, and it lends itself well to this kind of writing.
Story - The plot and the pacing are both good most of the time. I enjoyed how it examines some deep questions such as death and the meaning of life. This is where your work shines, because it strikes at the heart.
The main character, as a ghost, is subject to time passing without her control or involvement. Combined with other story elements, that makes the story interesting and compelling. It feels like it might get away unless she hurries.
On the other hand, much of the story progress happens within other people's dreams. That's somewhat boring and strange to read. Worse is the seemingly pointless paragraphs watching someone play an online game. I'm not sure why that was important, since it doesn't impact the plot. Yes, it's neat that Kitaji has online friends and that they support him emotionally. But seeing them chop up online monsters doesn't seem relevant.
Furthermore, the strange chapter where the character goes to meet the Vitan seems immersion breaking and pointless. I simply pretended that chapter didn't happen. My explanation was that "none of that was real, but ghosts have weird dream
