Little Red: A fairy tale RPG

Description

My son asked for a  Little Red Riding Hood story. Since it's in public domain, I figured I could steal -- er, innovate -- and retell the story with some stats and spells. For now this is a standalone short story, but I may expand on the universe later. Enjoy!

It's the same short fairy tale we all grew up reading, but with a new twist!
And gosh if I don't now want an entire retelling of every Grimm's Fairy Tale with these LITrpg mechanics. I'm just imagining all the possibilities!
Did Snow White pick up some miner skills while living with the Seven Dwarves?
What level was the witch that placed a sleeping curse on Sleeping Beauty?
Just how many bonuses did Rapunzel recieve for that hair length?
And of course, what was the quality of Cinderella's glass slipper? I'm thinking Unique Mythic Item at least.
Loved the story my friend! Please continue to write more!

Almost everybody knows Little Red Riding Hood. Sadly, both Perrault and the Brothers Grimm omitted the LitRPG parts of that story from their publications. But we are in luck, Andrew B. Salmon was able to bring the original to RoyalRoad.
This short story is very enjoyable, with funny twists of the "normal" storyline. The characters are refreshing and the LitRPG parts are interesting.
There's just one big problem: I can't find the rest of Grimms' LitRPG Tales...!?

We get some backstory for why Little Red is going through the woods as well, and she actually rides instead of walks! Story has been expanded! Which also introduces a new character!
Not gonna say anything else and spoil this short story, if you're reading this before reading the story!

    The title says it all.
It's short, it won't even take you 20 minutes to read. It's funny, the premise being a traditional fairtytale imbued with RPG concepts. I do wish I had her superpower pastries...
Well written, no grammar mistake as far as I could find, short, funny. What better way to spend lunch break?

It's short, not too long, just nice to have it as modern bed time story.
Somehow I do think it's a great idea to make it into a mini game, just so sweet and lovely!
Brave little red and the reliable huntsman, would be a nice team in future though. :D

Fun and short read about how Little red fairy tale would have gone if it was made litrpg, it was a fun little read, clever use of skills and RPG elements (the character sheets are in the comments of the last chapter), good read overall, and it dosent take much time at all.

This is not your typical telling of Little Red, it is full of magical litrpg elements that spread throughout the whole work. Fundamentally, this strips out much of the old underpinnings in favor of a modern cautionary tale which makes it more entertaining in a way. It gets to be a bit heavy handed with the constant inclusion of magical elements, spells and items at every bend - though a young audience might be pleasantly entertained to see some numerical representation of common items.
The writing is good, and the changes made interestingly make more sense of the wolf from the original tales. It does have some rough edges, and can lose its tone at times, particularly with Little Red's demeanor. I'll admit the resourcefulness and intelligence displayed early on makes it difficult having to stick the landing with some of the framing of the fairy tale, but it does seem out of character in the end.

A highly enjoyable retelling that incorporates LitRPG elements into the classic tale.
A recipe of success with the right dashes of humour and drama. Little red riding hood is a charming protagonist and the Wolf a vicious villian.
The setting hangs in the background vivid and shaping the story subtly and enchancing what might otherwise be a tired retelling of a stock story.
The characters are a fine retelling of their stock traits. Well executed and entertaining.
I didn't spot a single grammar error. The technical work to make this story well polished pays off and raises the short to a high standard.
The story is a classic this gets it a four but the lack of innovation means I won't raise the score higher.
Style is four and half by RR standards and publishing standards. It is here where I put credit in the LitRPG retelling of a classic story.
A fun read, I highly recommend.
I have a personal but relevant extra point. The story is an impressive technical feat from the level of grammar to the retelling and the fresh LitRPG twist. However, it is too safe.
This is what holds back the story amd characters a half a star.
I wonder what a bold, more personal tale by the author would look like?

A short, but delightful read that puts a completely new twist on the classic Little Red Riding Hood. The RPG aspect was a twist I've never seen before in a fairy tale adaptation but it worked really well and was pulled of superbly. The reader isn't bogged down trying to figure out everything, skills and abilities are explained well and don't distract from the main story.
