- morphiwritesRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The narrative style of this story is noted for its clarity and straightforward approach, effectively maintaining suspense without overwhelming the reader. Minor formatting and punctuation quirks are present but do not significantly detract from the reading experience. The prose itself is polished and flows smoothly, with occasional grammatical errors noted but corrected through editing. While some word choices and tense usage may seem stylistically unusual, they do not mar the overall sleek and engaging nature of the text.
At the heart of its appeal is a riveting story that captures and sustains the reader's interest, a feat acknowledged by those typically indifferent to reading. The author masterfully builds tension, suspense, and a sense of impending doom, all while weaving a mystery that keeps the audience eagerly anticipating what comes next. This thriller showcases the author's deep understanding and appreciation of the genre.
Character development is a standout aspect, particularly the in-depth portrayal of the protagonist, Lillya, whose thoughts and emotions are vividly brought to life. The narrative succeeds in giving each character a distinct voice and personality, avoiding confusion and enhancing the reader's connection to the story. The inclusion of artwork further enriches the characters, making the unfolding tragedy even more impactful as readers find themselves deeply empathizing with the characters.
Moreover, the work experiments with an intriguing style, incorporating poetry and art to transition between straightforward narrative and lyrical writing, enhancing the story's emotional depth and tension control. Despite some grammatical issues and distracting punctuation, the story remains compelling, especially due to its character-driven plot. The characters, introduced through poems and characterized by their distinct relationships, are the soul of the story, engaging readers with their depth and uniqueness.
Overall, this story lays the groundwork for - DweiaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Overall, I enjoyed this. There is quite a bit of suspense, and a well crafted mystery. The characters are interesting, and the story immediately caught my attention. Let's get to the advanced review:
Style and Grammar: The pace of the story is very well crafted. It's immersive, it flows naturally, and it's quite enjoyable to read. However, I do believe the Author should return to edit some grammatical mistakes, especially concerning the ones with punctuation.
Story: I think this is where the Author shines - the mystery in this stıry is very well crafted, which isn't an easy thing to do. The suspense is gripping, and the story had my curiosity from the very first poem. I would also like to add no character introduction or event felt forced.
Characters: They're interesting. I enjoyed each character's interaction with Lillya, and her descriptions of different family members. I'm intruiged to see how the character development will happen.
Bonus points for the artwork of each character - I do love it! I think it adds a nice touch to the story, and helps visualise characters.
Overall, if you like mystery, give this a try. While the only flaw I found was with punctuation/grammatical errors breaking the flow, it's still much better than most similar stories you will find on Royalroad. - L.E. FrenchRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Style: The style of this work is very interesting, especially with the experimental edge in the use of poetry, art, and the subtle shift into lyrical writing. The exposition sways between a clean flow to a layered and haunting song seemlessly to expertly control the tension of each scene. I was very captivated by the writing style and found it to be evocative.
Story: The premise and the mystery pulled me in while the pacing kep me coming back for more. This story can bring to you to the edge of seat in the same scene as it can warm your heart, which I find to be very unique. It can be difficult to bring a story to RR that does not fall into the usual subgenres or tropes, but there is so much here to love. I hope it finds its audience!
Grammar: There are some grammar issues that I noticed the author is editing to fix. The punctuation can be distracting but overall it is a clean read.
Character: The characters are truly the highlight of this story. I was captivated by the first poem and the tone it set for the relationships. While the story engaged me, I was really compelled to read to discover more about the characters. Very unique and interesting.
Overall, this is an excellent read that I highly recommend. The emotional beats are on point and the expert use of tension will have you binging for sure. - Lucian T. Story: The mystery in LILLYA is expertly made, drawing readers in with its tension and anticipation. The gradual unfolding of the plot keeps readers hooked and eager for more, making it a standout thriller in its genre.

Character: The characters in LILLYA are well-developed and unique, with each interaction adding depth to the storyline. The protagonist, Lillya, is portrayed as a complex and relatable character, setting the stage for compelling character development in future chapters.
In conclusion, LILLYA - The Witch's Puppet is a must-read for fans of mystery and thriller genres, offering a blend of suspense, tragedy, and emotion that will leave readers eagerly awaiting the next installment. Angelica Raize's storytelling prowess shines through in this gripping tale of fate and betrayal. - Nemo OmniaqueRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Style: The style of this story is very concise, straightforward, and effective without sacrificing any of the suspense; it is very easy to read and follow along without getting lost in. The only main noticeable peculiarities are largely a few formatting/punctuation quirks and inconsistencies, but none of these detract largely from the reading experience.
Grammar: The writing style is effective and somewhat elegant, I would say. The grammar was largely fine, though with a few mistakes and hiccups sprinkled about, which had been rectified due to editing suggestions. However, there still could be some aspects (such as word usage and tense) which may come off as a bit stylistically weird to read, but nothing major and overall, the reading experience is very, very smooth and slick.
Story: Story is where this thing shines the most. I am one who doesn't really enjoy reading often, but this story hooked me and kept me hooked and kept me wanting more. The author does an excellent job with conveying the tension, the anticipation, and the feelings of dread associated with kind of knowing what is to come, in addition to maintaining the mystery of it all. It is a well-crafted thriller by an author who clearly appreciates thrillers as a genre.
Character: there are multiple characters in the story, though it primarily follows the first-person perspective of the main character, Lillya. I believe the author had done a good job at not only characterizing the principal character and making her appear like a real person with thoughts and feelings, but also does an effective job at characterizing all the other characters within the story, which is not an easy task at all. So far, each character presented felt like their own unique person and at no point was it confusing to differentiate between them. The author's well paced flow also does not make the introduction to each character an overwhelming experience for the reader. The artwork used in the story also helps further give more life - Bookman9Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story's got me hooked right from the get-go. It's got this laid-back vibe but with a hint of suspense lurking in the background. I'm not sure if it's going full-on horror, but there's something eerie brewing beneath the surface.
Story: The way the author drops little hints and details between the scenes paints a vivid picture. You can tell there's a lot of heart poured into crafting this tale. And that mystery element? Man, it's like a puzzle you just can't wait to solve.
Style: The pacing is very smooth, with an introduction to various side characters that will inevitably be dragged into the mystery aspect of this story. The character dialogues are also very witty and fun. They add to the world building aspect of the story.
Character: Lillya has a good head above her shoulder and her interaction with Nelya is very adorable. I hope nothing bad happens to them, Wink wink. Her character development for the upcoming crazier part of the mystery will be one to look forward to.
Grammar: The author takes feedback seriously and fixes it immediately. As of reading this, there is nothing that prevents me from smoothly reading it. Kudos to you, author!
Overall, it's a smooth ride with just the right amount of chills to keep you on edge. Can't wait to see where the next chapters take us! - ikdahlRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Overall:
I love a story that starts with a poem. It has the ability to set an emotional scene far above any number of words of prose, and the author of Lillya pulls us into her story when she starts the story.
The emotional overtones from the poem is carried into the first chapter, and it feels strange--yet very nice--to read something on RR that isn't immediately about pushing your sword into someone else.
Style:
The author uses dialogue very effectively, using it as a paint brush to paint a story that comes to life through the character interactions. She has what is very much her own style, and even if it is very different from the "hit this with a club"-style that is prominent on RR; I encourage you to continue. The style of prose is very much a part of what is a very engaging story.
Story:
The mystery in the first chapter is visceral, and it is rare for a story here to engage the "what is going on here?"-centres of the brain in the same way that this one does. There is something completely overworldly about the story that just drags the reader onwards relentlessly. The author does an awesome job at building tension - a rare gem of a thriller!
Grammar:
Some punctuation will need another edit-pass, but that is the kind of thing you don't really notice if you are not actively looking for it. Otherwise the story flows very nicely.Character:
The characters make up the foundation of this story, and they are a very interesting gallery of people. It will be interesting to see them going forward in the story. - SuitoinRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5The amount of suspense and mystery surprised me while reading each chapter, and I was even more shocked that I couldn't read further after Chapter 5. However, it's still worth a review.
Style - 4/5
The author did a fantastic job of controlling the pace of the story. New events or character introductions were never forced and came naturally. They know how to employ genre conventions in the mystery genre as well, using tension and foreshadowing. I also enjoyed the narrative voice of the main character. Despite her being a young girl, her acute personality and proactive nature made her perspective interesting.
The dialogue and writing style as I suggested in some comments, was my only gripe with the writing. It took away from some key elements while using an abundance of ellipses, em-dashes, and punctuation when not needed (and took away from character dialogue and the story itself).
Story - 5/5
Unfortunately, at the time of my review, I could only read five chapters. This is a travesty as the story has the same amount of mystery plot development as episode one of Shadows House or The Promised Neverland (meaning it's terrific).
What I enjoyed about this story the most was that in every chapter, we learned something new, which is necessary to draw conclusions and theory craft. That's the key element of mystery/drama media as it keeps the readers hooked and on the edge of their seats.
Grammar 4/5
One thing I hope the author will go back and review is their syntax, or the arrangement of words to create meaningful sentences and paragraphs. A lot of sentences, including some major bomb drops would've been fun to read if it wasn't for the excessive usage of bad punctuation, unclear sentence structure, and poor spelling mistakes. The illustrations sort of made up for these things, but I'd rather read than be interrupted... by a... random... ellipsis.
Other than that, there were no overlying spelling issues.
Character 4/5
The characters were decent. The way Lillya described t
