- LuesatoraRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0An entertaining story that seems pretty straightforward so far, once the dungeon fighting starts. As the author warns, that does not start until chapter 18. But the earlier chapters are still rather interesting, despite their relative mundanity. They dive a lot into the main character's mental health problems and psychological trauma. At the moment it appears that the first 17 chapters do not have much bearing on what happens after that so you could skip them if you find them boring. But I can only assume they will become relevant in some way later
- Phantom ThiefRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I never really do reviews. Since there is only one other at this moment, I thought it would be good to give one. Anyway, on to the review.
I have read from Chapter 1. Even though the author says that the action only really happens in Chapter 18, I will recommend reading Chapter 1, although it does not have much relevance to the main story. It gives more insight into the main character, gives a good overall background on the main character, and shows their growth and characteristics. And have real side characters. And there were interactions. With the main character. Don't feel forced, and seem natural.
As for the story, even though it's, I guess you can say, a slice of life, it is dark and leans more into the psychological side, trying to be spoiler-free. That is all I am going to say about chapters 1–17. But I highly recommend not skipping straight to the action.
Now, as for when the action starts, it does take a bit for it to pick up. Just going to say that, trying to be spoiler-free, but we do see it and see how the main character adapts. I can't really say much as of Chapter 24.
And as for the perspectives of other characters, we do see them in this story, and I did not find any major flaws in it. It was nice seeing how other people reacted to all of this happening and the things that led up to it.
I will give this story five stars. So far, there are some small problems, but that will be nitpicking from my perspective. The major flaw I don't know if this can count as a spoiler, but I guess the main character's first reaction to the apocalypse, but overall, I suggest that you should at least give this story a try. The main character does take it more seriously than afterwords.
P.S.
Let me know if I made any mistakes in the review. I have bad grammar, and this is my first time doing one on this website. 🍪
Cough .. to lazy to look at review rules - TheOmnisientLPTRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0There are only two other books that compete with this, Worm and Quantify, I could have read a hundred chapters of the first book without getting bored. and it shows the composers understanding of story structure, soo many books are now structured to get into the tick of it as soon as possible, OddAbandon breaks this rule, they understand the importance of characterisation and forming attachments with the characters and the setting as a whole, it also reenforoces the trauma of the system change, being abrupt and 'unexpected' which makes the suspense of knowing its going to happen so much better, I love this book and hope they come back.
The grammer is spotles ive never spotted a mistake or eror (lol) In all seriousness, I would like to see Author mess around more with the form, I think that too often people play text straight and the author doesnt have any publishers breathing down their neck, i would look into a book called "Pretentious Garbage" for further ideas, it is okay
story is good, requires heavy suspension of disbelief, especially around the idea of self immolation but apart from that its great.
overall i am obsessed with this book and its characters and will probably be waiting for future chapters till the day of my death, keep writing, and putting so much of yourself into your work (i think).
they are a great author and I want to read more of this story
