Description
On the planet of Liberum lies the super-massive city of Boris-Valka. Founded and governed by a body of corporate power houses for the last four hundred years, a much older and darker power lies deep within it's sewer system. Teams of sewer maintenance workers, nicknamed waste-walkers, remove massive fat-burgs and swarms of invasive insects larger than any found on Earth. Most are convicts, rejects, and the occasional naive volunteer. A chance encounter hurls Harvel Gillis and his adoptive sister Dibbuk Valez into a centuries old mystery that will change the meaning of existence itself.

- GlassSpidersRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Waste deep so far has included everything I didn't know I wanted from a dystopian fiction seemingly centered around sewage systems. There is humor, excellent tension, some mystery and lovely, gritty world building that has a taste of fantastic to it.
In detail if I was to compare the feel of the world and the pacing of events so far the closest comparison would be to Snowcrash. For those who haven't read Snowcrash The way it is put together makes sure your picture of the world is limited and slightly disjointed to the characters flawed viewpoints, but because of the personal tone in each chapter depending on the character the the narrative feels more detailed and descriptive. It also allows for the audience to slowly collect information across character viewpoints slowly adding up to understanding the situation. With a cast of unique character viewpoints and personalities I am enjoying learning about this world and reading more. - Harmless SpiderRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is a good book. A very good book. I love everything about this book. Original concepts, good writing, good characters!
This is one of the best books on Royale road I wager.
More small scope than most sci-fi stories on here, but full of action and good pacing.
it’s like 2:30 now and I’m too tired to think properly but I love this book please read it and give the author some comments. I want a book two!! - LlamaLlumpsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I Just dove into this and it is confounding my expectations at every turn.
Is it perhaps the title? I think not, that is a nice one, it sold me right away. What coud it be?
Why are people not reading this? The prose is so clear and revealing. I feel the snooty party people milling about and can wallow in their decadance, without getting any party drugs on my clothes, nice.
This feels like it is going to be a splendid walk through some very dark places, looking forward to the journey! - LuckyCandy1776Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story has a very unique concept and storyline. The backstory and storyline are very different from the majority of RR fare. The idea behind this is a unique one that I have never read before.
The author doesn't coddle or bore the reader with over-explanation. You have to put the pieces together by memory.
Yes, this is set in a sewer, but I assure you readers with overactive imaginations that the story is worth a moment or two of gagging. 😆
There is a fair bit of
body horror
, not overplayed, and it touches on themes of consciousness and what constitutes a person, although this is an adventure story and by no means a philosophical treatise.
