Part 1 - Althea

The Interreality War against the genocidal Sidhe of Shénzhōu has ended with a bang, leaving the alliance of alternate Realities called the Storm League victorious.Althea 36935, the last survivor of a vat-grown squadron of special ops supersoldiers from the cybernetic reality of Mechanon, was celebrated as a war hero. Now bearing the ceremonial surname Ventricorum d’Argus, or Heartsblood of Argus, she has joined the Storm League as part of a social reform program.Mechanese like Althea have a fearsome reputation in the new Inter-Reality society she has joined, with people often shunning them in fear or treating them like private drones. Althea must now navigate not only the new society she’s joined but also a peacetime Military.

However, the Sidhe aren’t finished just yet, and they have allies.

The story of “Legends of the Sky Hurricane” takes place across many alternate timelines, many of which are dystopias. As a result, many characters will have attitudes and morals which are out of line with our world. Fortunately, the authordoes notshare these attitudes and merely writes about them, thankful that these dystopias do not exist. There are multiple LGBT characters within the story.

Before I start, let me be clear. Yes. I have only read the first chapter, and yes, there are dozens more. But my god, I have never been gobsmacked by world building before. The concept, no, the very base of the concept hits you like a train and takes your breath away. The sheer depth of the world building is substantial, this feels like a world through and through, the history and culture, the details, everything just makes you stop breathing and demands your full attention.
This is complimented by the execution, while the actual writing itself is a similar train to the stomach (and I mean that in a slightly less flattering way this time), it never over steps the rule of “too much at once”.
I have read a lot of science fiction over the years, perhaps not as much as fantasy, but still a lot. This idea is so far beyond anything I have ever seen in a story with just how deeply commits to being both science fiction, science fantasy, and high fantasy. There is no feeling as though the author injected one into the other, or that they didn't carefully consider the consequences of building a world at such a scale.
I will be honest, I am honestly intimidated to even continue reading. Not because I don't want to, but because I am afraid that I won't be able to stop thinking about it in my off time. There were three separate times when I stopped reading the chapter and just daydreamed about what I was reading, only to realize what I had done and when I zoned out. Usually zoning out is a bad thing, but in this case it's a good thing.
Don't take anything I have said as a reason to not read it. I personally think this is one of my favorites ever and I don't say that lightly.

I'm a huge fan of when characters and worlds aren't just carbon copies of human civilisations.
I can tell the author spent a lot of time thinking about the many different worlds she's creating. I know this is a fantasy book. But some of the worlds/creates the author creates just feel so alien - and I love it.
Each race feels so unique. I found myself pausing multiple times just to daydream about how crazy a race of people were.
I could honestly see myself sitting down with a physical copy of this book while on holiday at the beach. The story is just so rich and lively that I want to take notes at the margin.
A good example of Toir's great imagination was the brief story about The Black Dragon Emperor. I found myself wanting to hear more about Emperor's world and the battle. I even messaged the author to ask ;).
All in all, it's an amazing book. And I'm going to continue to read it and slowly make my way through the story.

If you're like me and love to just gnosh on some damn lore than this is the story for you!
But is it JUST a lore buffet? No, what's also here is a wonderfully told character driven piece about the seemingly humorless and dead pan Althea as she travels through a world post a war to end all wars. Thea may present cold, but as the chapters go on and she meets other characters you see she's actually a warm hearted individual with a dry sense of humor that can murder you in an instant if you are the enemy.
The highlights thus far in her story are her relationship with Teek (I'd also like to take this time for the author's inclusiveness and handling of it). Teek just oozes charisma and is a bad ass in her own right but the cute interactions between the two (even during mid-battle) could make your heart melt.
As I read on, I wondered if there is going to be an overarching plot, something to test our mains, and that had been slow going. However, that's completely changed at the chapters I'm reviewing at. In fact, I wanted to read everything before dropping this review but these last two chapters have been so great I felt I needed to give the author the props they deserve.
Grammer is fine, just the occasional typo if that but I was never once taken out of the story. The chapters are L O N G so keep that in mind if you start reading this. I appreciated and savored them but YMMV.
    Read this now!

Really good multiversal portal story. There is a lot of focus on setting and lore with the protagonist as a stranger in a strange land. A mix of slice of life, relationship developments and berserk action. I binged the first book and found it to be a good arc.
YMMV warnings: very gay, side characters and antagonist perspectives are increasing in frequency and complexity, an odd mix of cyberpunk, high fantasy, and psychic powers
Comparable stories include the David Webber portal set and the Long Earth series.

Well isn't this quite rare? A sience fantasy setting? Well I would say so and I would also say that this is amazing and clearly has some deep lore that goes far, far down and wide. Just what I like! It blends the two parts of fantasy and Sci-Fi together wondefully too!
The prose is well written, the characters are good and there is a clear plot here that takes it's time to get set up which I respect deeply. There are a lot of cogs and its fun and rather intresting to watch them spin together perfectly.
If you are reading this review, stop reading it and just read this series. It'll do you good.

Incredible world building.  Plot is slow to develop but it is enjoyable anyway.   It almost seems like a slice of life novel for the first few chapters.
The prologue gives an exceptionally detailed history and a small amount of personal backstory.  But the MC is inconsistent as she switches from nearly robotic to emotional idiosyncrasies.
im looking forward to reading the remaining chapters.
