Last Lord of the Fey (B1 STUB JUNE 5th)

Description
Across the countless realms of reality, no creatures are more dangerous than dragons. That’s why the dragonslayers exist. Tristan Anorox was born into a legendary family of these warriors . . . as the unwanted half-breed.
His father assigned him an impossible quarry when he came of age: to hunt a gods-damned fairy dragon. The smallest, most cunning, and most mischievous of all dragon species; at least according to the legends. None had been successfully hunted.
When his two-year pursuit results in him being dragged into the Fey Realm, however, everything changes. Welcomed by the land of his ancestors, he experiences an awakening of his mother’s bloodline and inherits a legacy that changes the trajectory of his fate.
Unfortunately, there are those that seek the destruction of his bloodline and will see it annihilated by any means.
With Felicity Glimmerwing as a companion—the very fairy dragon he was hunting— Tristan must return to the Mortal Realm to begin his journey towards power that was kept from him for so long . . . and become the Last Lord of the Fey.

- VirulentShadeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Let me preface this review by saying I'm a Patreon Reader plus an adamant lover of all things Fey/Fae. This series thus far is quite a joy to read. Tristian is both a kind hearted person yet absolutely protective of what he views as his own. He is willing to lend a hand to just about anyone until they overstep their bounds. The magic of the world is in depth with the phrases and languages themselves being languages of our own world which are fitted to the races of this world, plus every magic having its own type. Not to mention every race has certain types of magic inherited. Then comes the story and world itself. Filled with both intrigue and many questions with answers begging more questions and adventure to seem them out. Seras once again loves to build their worlds to feel interesting and alive in every single way.
- SirPuzzleRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I'm not good at reviews but I'll give this a shot.
I've loved this story so far and am looking forward to more. I'm giving it 5 stars because its bingeworthy. That's not to say the story is perfect.
My criticisms should be taken with a grain of salt as I have little to no skill in a literary sense and mostly this is just personal preference.
But first the good!
I like the single perspective story telling, I know it can be difficult to use it to build the world or depth to the plot however I find multiple perspectives jarring to say the least and can make the main character feel as if they are no longer in control of their own story.
I like the setting and that the world building is integrated into the story. Little geography lessons here and there never hurt anyone and are much better than a lore dump.
Now onto my suggestions.
The spell text and descriptions are cool however I found myself skipping them, anything longer than a full screen on my phone about a spell that shoots a shard of ice or a ball of fire is too much of a break from the story than my ADHD brain can handle. Grim teaching the spells felt more integrated into the story and the descriptions of the somantic spell components that are included in the story bring the spells enough life for me.
I dont like when characters mope, it puts me off, but the loss of a mother and the murder of one's own father no matter how discriminatory his father was should display more of an impact. Maybe I missed it but it kind of gives the MC murderhobo vibes. We know that he's not as he actively tries to incapacitate rather than kill.
Story points I'm hoping will get some future clarity:
The plot behind the ousting of Grim feels like it has holes and Tristan definitely feels way too trusting at times for someone who has a price on his head however as someone with a high level of control over the access to the fey realm he should have a level of confidence and security.
I'm confused about the fey realm having only fairy dra - AshanthalRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0As of posting this I've only read up to chapter 32 but I thought I would have my thoughts on the story. So far I haven't had really anything I feel like would be a major negative and the only minor ones would be the occasional grammatical or mathematical issue (which the gramatical issues are generally just translation errors) that are rather quickly addressed and if need be have been corrected. As far as the characters go I haven't had any complaints so far as to how they've been written and the story has flowed nicely so far. The only thing that could make this better in my opinion would be if romance was included in the story and was well thought out without all the usual cliches. Also I hope Felicity is a permanent character as I have been loving her shenanigans and how well her and Tristan seem to get along. Oh yeah and one more thing. Please delve more into how the tiers of power work for the other races. For instance you talked about how Tristan's grandfather killed and Arch dragon from the fire elemental plane but you didn't seem to cover how powerful that actually was though it might have covered later and I just haven't gotten to that point yet. Anyway thank you for the book so far and I hope you have a great week.
- DrakonaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0In all honesty though this is a great story. While I was a little worried when Felicity was introduced, she managed to be just the right amount charming and funny while also not being incredibly annoying. I also love Tristan's progression in finding out the secrets of both his bloodlines, not just his elven one.
To keep it brief (I almost said short) Tristan is a great protagonist and I can't wait to read more about the world the author is building.
PS: If Tristan's tried to justify elven "superiority" to any dwarfs who appear in the series, HE'S GOIN STRAIGHT IN THE F***ING BOOK!!! - Kyley175Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Good story with consistent, likable characters.
Romance is present but takes a minor role in the plot.
Mc gets OP way too fast imo but the enemy encounter difficulty scales really fast too so I guess it's fine.
Magic spells have quite detailed descriptions, but mc gets way to many of them and it's hard to remember and keep track of what spells he is casting and exactly what they do. Most have self explanatory names and the effects are described afterwards though so it's not a big deal and I can get the gist through context. Something i think would have been cool(it might've happened and i just forgot idk) is if in one of the scenes Tristan runs into trouble with a finger injury or something and can't meet the somatic requirements for the spell and has to deal with it in another way.
Big spoilers below, and I dont mean the car kind.
I dislike how one of the big bads of the entire book gets killed in 7 paragraphs. There is a lot of planning and buildup and then the actual fight ends in like 4 hits. It felt comparatively short and underwhelming. Still pretty badass, just wish it was longer.
There are some offhand comments that drop lore that doesnt really go anywhere, like Betty being Logos' daughter which I dont think is ever mentioned again or used. There might have been stuff planned in the future where that info is relevant I guess so I'll give a pass on it. - MichaelsonRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is a great story with a fun magic system. Who doesn't love a good dragon slaying?
Casting spells requires odd hand gestures and chants to generate specific effects. It feels like magic rather than activating a skill by the push of a button. Tristan's ability to develop new elemental potential as he consumes dragons is a great way to expand his repertoire of spells without bogging the story down with a huge spell list at the outset.
The concept of representing fantasy languages with real languages is brilliant and handled well. The author clearly took time to cautiously plan what languages would correspond to which species to avoid offensive stereotypes and draw on real world cultures.
The main characters are engaging with fun organic dynamics. Tristan's growth to accept his place as a "chosen one" is fun to see. And his struggles with greed and control as the story progresses are an interesting price. Felicity is a great companion to balance his seriousness with mischief and charm.
I'm not 100% sold on Tristan's ability to go to the fey realm once a day. It allows for Tristan to have regular interactions with the Matriarch, but it does take away some of the stakes, in my opinion.
All in all, this is a fun story in a magical world. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a character they can root for. - Mostly LurkingRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I'm still catching up but this has turned into a fantastic binge read. Starts a little bit slow but once things are established it starts to pick up momentum.
Does anyone else hate the 50 words minimum for not advanced reviews? It just seems like an unnecessary barrier. Why not 25 or 30 why 50? - MrAtlasRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Already on the Second book thanks to Patreon, definitely worth the read as the book provides a unique and interesting experience that I haven't been able to find in many other books. I look forward to seeing where this book goes to and I hope Seras continues to write these banger of novels
- CriseistRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Not an isekai or anything of the sort, just a well made world to dive into. Not a hundred percent sure why, but I'm reminded of Eragon a lot while reading through this.
The only real cons I can think of is that the pace is very brisk, and editing seems to be forgotten. I hesitate to write about arcs since often they're only a few entries long.
So if you like fantasy, and you don't mind taking a second to piece together what the author was going for sometimes, I strongly recommend this one. - TaravangiumRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0I like the premise of this book, even if it is a little obvious and forced about making the main character special. Oh, he just happens to inherit two powerful bloodlines and the whole fairy realm is basically his. Whatever. I like wish fulfillment novels.
But I struggle more with the dialogue, which feels...flat? For example, half of it seems to be either comments on how special Tristan is or some sort of bland teasing. It's almost as if it wasn't enough to give Tristan all the luck and power-ups, so every conversation with a fairy dragon has to reinforce his special status to the reader. Don't you dare forget that Tristan is basically a full elf now and has cool colors in his crucible and has access to a perfect fairy world and and ...
Tristan also doesn't seem to have much depth as a character. Um, let's see, his family was mean to him and he knows how to fight dragons. And he's kinda naive. Not much else to his personality at this point.
On the other hand, the grammar is fine and the plot has some promise, so I may continue. I just want the world to feel more alive and the MC to forge real connections, and right now most of the cast feels flat.
