Description
This story is on hiatus/abandonned.
People die, then that's all... or at least, it should be that way. There may be anomalies, yes – the occasional hero of old getting reincarnated for some obscure purpose – but who knows what the gods are thinking. If they are thinking at all. If there are gods, to begin with.
What would explain such a mistake, then? The hero mark wasn't given to our reborn champion, but to his perfectly normal sister. A prank from these mindless gods, perhaps. Luckily for him, he was done with this hero business and had other plans for his new life, so it's all good... Here is the story of one who isn't meant to stand among heroes, kings and emperors anymore, yet will find himself holding power over them.

----
Excellent grammar which seems to be edited.
Story is clear with direction. Interesting twists and turns.
Characters are believable.
World building is excellent and one of its best features.
Author uses POV third person style which changes every chapter from the main character to a side character. Character's thoughts are displayed in italics which are not cancerously bad to read and attitudes are well described in third person.
Not every story on Royal Road is perfect. For that reason, an author simply has to try to make an attempt to incorporate good grammar, syntax and literary techniques to make a good story. This story surpasses all minimum requirements and I would recommend it for anyone who likes re-incarnation stories. - NevaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Living world, characters, and intriguing.
Personal opinion and preferences below.
I personally like "show don't tell" type of story telling, and there are certain parts in the story where it tells more than shows and feels like an info dump.
May contain spoliers beyond this point.
I do find myself not fully invested in some of the characters (the little kids) and wish to skim farward at times. The childern's POV chapters are just not interesting; they feel too slow, and seems like the children's POV would work better as a summary of events from their perpective than as a real time story telling.
I understand it needed to be told in real time due to world affecting affairs, but that can be done by adult characters with a real personaility, bias, and personal quirks to make things interesting. - Pineapple JuiceRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Simply amazing.
The plot, characters, grammar. It's one of the best things i've read here in a long while. Kudos to the author and I hope he continues this master piece. - Zombie UnicorneRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A breath of fresh air from the usual reincarnation trope such as a loser somehow being reincarnated to an another world for no good reason.
Here, it's actually a remarkable individual being reincarnated instead. Which makes much more sense, since there is no reason to reincarnate a person that failed at life over someone who is capable and was once successfull.
Aside from that, this story has the intrigue and scheming done right. It has all the backstabbing, escapegoating and so fort, where innocent people are swept by the selfish, greedy desires of the strong and the ignorant taken advantage of.
A world for the ruthless and subtle,
Do check it out. - septimanRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Didn't expect much from this novel in the beggining as it seemed to a traditional OP reincarnated MC who could do whatever he wanted with his OP abilities. But instead what the author takes a far more unique and intriguing approach with his character.
The characters, especially the MC, were all well developed and thought out. The MC in particular is somebody who doesnt dominater through magic or strength, but rather with his own wits. He doesn't possess any overpowered abilites and, other than the experiences he has of his past life, is quite literally and ordinary human. He doesn't often fight battles with magic or steel, but rather wages war through political means, seeking to rise to the top through his ingeuity and shrewdness.
The novel also gives me some Game of Thrones vibes with the majority of the battles being fought through politics and tactical methods. There are various small kingdoms and countries who are at odds with each other as they covet the others resources. Many skirmishes occur behind the scenes with nobles, royalty, and relgious factions all trying to vie for power. And like GOT, while there are gods and magic in the story, it plays a small roll in how the story flows, being more dependent on the intellect of people.
This type of novel is very rare to find on RR and is definitely a story worth reading if you are tired of the usual tropes. - djeruknipisRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Unlike most reincarnated characters who is written ego-centric, which sometimes very tiring to read, Brostigno's Astrael alive once again to look over other. With his experience as a fighter of highest social standing, he create safest environment possible for his sister to develop her capabilities, while removing unscrupulous factor that might poison her growth behind the scene.
When reading the title Kingmaker, I was imagining a character who stand prosperously in the middle of some country political situation. He would have a flair to direct and rouse people, while keeping vigilant eye toward anything that threathen his or his country position. But several chapters in, I was shown that the kingmaker is not the main character himself, but some old dudes. They're politically adept, as expected as any kingmaker. But their vested interest in main character's little sister as political piece, whom he loves very much, forced him to involve himself. So birthed into the story a rogue-like kingmaker in the making, who make a king for his country from outside his kingdom. What an amazing set up!
Main character are stellar example of a good character. He is witty, adept in combat, while also have a flair navigating social situation. It would be a Gary Stu if it's not for his past life experience. You see, as a general-like persona, those kind of skill are more or less required. So possession of them inside MC is more than acceptable. Beside, his life now is not focused on developing those talents, that would be boring.
The supporting characters also have mind of their own. If you expect little sister who is dependent to her awesome big brother, a mentor who only teach and being philosophical, or a ruler who only sits on his throne, so the author only rambling on about the MC, you will be disappointed. Everyone has motive, personality, and works toward their goal. Not a single one of them is dimensional in their design. (well, they're key supporting character, random charact - 5p4g4gp6Royal Road★★★★ 4.0When I read the prologue, I was already sure this is going to be great.
The premise is done before, the character doesn't have time to grow yet, and there's exactly 0 plot going on yet. So why, you might ask, that I came to this sure conclusion.
It all comes down to the narration.
The exposition of the heroe's past life was done in a in character rumination that felt natural. While having the MC deliberate philosophy in his own head isn't that uncommon a scene of such fics, to be so...intense yet avoiding overcomplicating the infromation makes the whole event feels real.
The events are, in the setting, logical. It is clearly seen that the information the MC has is kept track of, and the conclusion he came to not only seems rational, also hints at his past without heavy-handedly adding another thinly disguised exposition.
The flow of the writing is also superb. You don't need "this is thoughts" "this is speech" kind of intro to understand what each sentence is which, and the timeskips are done in a way the readers don't feel as if missing out on something.
However, the story gets stale and truly fails to distinguish itself from the masses halfway through, losing the initial touch of ingenuity, and went down standard road of the "tried and true" secretly OP reincarnator plot.
Then the author lost passion in this story which kind of killed it even before the hiatus, and then the story ended a few chapters later.
