Description
Father died when I was young. Mother was sent away shortly afterwards. Grandfather's only involvement in my life was the beatings and cuttings and now even he lies entombed in the depths of Castle Black,my castle. Now I look over this putrid kingdom the old man allowed to rot and see a pathetic creature, wounded, weak. I need to feed it, nurture it back to health and when I look towards my neighbors I can't help but see fresh meat guarded behind stone walls.

- Fedor Well Ranvir MackenzieRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0First of all I'm just writing a review and its in my own opinion. The only word that I can say is that it has a 'potential' and I like it.
I wrote this review just in the first chapter and I think this one will become more great in the future chapters. - HyperAlphaKingRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Overall:
I like the story, I enjoy the main character and his interaction with the world. The world itself is also intriguing, the strange and unknown magic and the powers that use it are very effective and capturing my attention. Though the novel itself is not perfect, sometimes it feels a bit repetitive describing how messed up everything is, but I'm still invested in how the MC will manage his kingdom.
I recommend this story to those interested and those that have a higher than average tolerance of talks of debauchery and torture. This story has room for improvement.
Story:
It is very interesting, the first part of the novel is the buildup to Harold's (MC's) coronation, and the struggles he deals with along the way, a huge one being some mysterious necromantic force. Although not much is revealed about the opposition, it remains engaging and interesting. I am looking forward to where the story goes in Part 2.
Characters
All characters in this story are flawed and have an interesting layer to them, like the MC, although cruel and indifferent, still has some depth to him, like visiting brothels more for companionship than pleasure. It's interesting to see him struggle with his inner turmoil, and his anxiety starts about being King starts to show in chapter 18. And I like the relationship between Harold and his cousin.
The only problem I find with the characters is that mainly everyone seems to be both cruel and deviant, all either meddling with corpses or brothels.
Though it makes sense why most nobles are like so, since the previous king was weak and allowed horrible things to happen, even assisted them in order to secure his position,
it would still be nice to see not everyone be such a miserable bastard.
Style
The world established is very interesting, set in a debaucherous kingdom surrounded by weird tribes and other greedy nations. Though the first part doesn't explore these in depths too much, hopefully more of them will be seen in the second part since the - FirstNexusRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5I wasn't sure what I was expecting coming into this but it definitely wasn't this. I'm not saying it's bad or boring by any means, it's just a little strange. It does, however, have potential but once again, I have no idea where the story is currently going.
Style: It's different, told from a first person POV, though I can say this is one of the strengths of this story. It's written well, but I'm not sure how much of the world it's capturing the way it's written. The MC's personality is shown well through the writing, though it is a distasteful personality.
Grammar: I didn't catch anything, other than the fact that some paragraphs were just too long and could be split up.
Story: This is where I start to get confused. I'm not sure if this is a story about the MC's rise to the throne, the terrible people around him, or something else. I'm sure more motivations are explained in further chapters, but the first few just have the MC going out to kill and torture a bunch of people. Granted, these people aren't good and have committed their own terrible crimes, but so has our MC, so I'm not sure if we're supposed to side with him or what. All in all, I'm really not sure what's going on so far or what the point is, but it does have potential.
Character: This is just my opinion here, but I find the MC a distasteful character. Characters with flaws can be written well, but I'm not sure if the author is attempting to show that the MC is less "terrible" than the rest of the characters, or just that everyone is bad. Every character so far also seems to be nearly the same: craven and controlled by their vices. It makes them seem one-dimensional and sort of forced.
In conclusion, I gave it 3.5 stars because the style and grammar were pretty good, but I couldn't really understand the point of the story or the goals of the characters. It's all right, nothing to really think about, but I think the author has potential as a writer and can improve their product as they keep writing.
