Our protagonist however is the only one that actually passes the beta test, which was not designed to be survivable, through sheer dumb luck and thus has an extreme head start on all other citizens of Earth. Follow the journey of our hero as he tries to walk a thin line between preparing to save as much of his family and friends as possible while also trying to make sure that he will have enough power to make other people do most of the work while remaining safe and sound.
Poor guy is just a proto-hermit who wants to be left alone but also realizes the importance of others and family. The new reality just complicates things.

- sp4rt4n_ii7Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Worth reading if you enjoy post apocalyptic game story.
Game system has loopholes that the MC finds and pats himself on the back for, only to later find out that it wasn't that great. Silly MC lol - HangfireRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I enjoyed this story and look forward to reading more if you decide to continue writing more of this story.
- Retrodude653Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0It's a great start to a very promising story! I think you writing style is on the unique side and I like it a lot.
- WecareRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story was even better the second time through. The author definitely improved as the story progressed. Fun read!
- demus_wiesbadenRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0I now can understand how come there were Mithril figures in the Millions. 1 Mithril Coin is worth more than 1 Billion! So I expected to see the MC invest some more into earth after the first windfall of his Millions Billion. And a much greater reaction of the MC to so much money.
One logical conclusion to so much money is IMO at least possibly a very advanced interplanetary society. Every person on earth should at least be thousands of times richer than today after the MC invests.
That means each person on earth would have more power to get things done than 1000 people today have.
That is so cool to imagine. 1000 people power to work for each. Yummi. Just think what you could do if you had the money to let 1000 people work for you until you die. What could you do? What would you do? How much fun would that be? With how many other people would you coordinate to achieve even cooler things?
1 Gold ~ 1700 $
1 Platin = 1000 Gold
1 Mithril/Mithral? = 1000 Platin
=> 1 Mithril Coin ~ 1,7 BILLION $
Lets say every human on earth got a combined wealth of 50k $
https://waitbutwhy.com/2014/03/combined-wealth-world.html
Lets say there were 1 Trillion People who ever on earth:
http://www.prb.org/Publications/Articles/2002/HowManyPeopleHaveEverLivedonEarth.aspx
1 Trillion x 50k $ = 50k Trillion $ = 50k x k x Billion $ = 50 Million Billion $
I am really missing some more awesomely expensive upgrades for earth.
---
Anyone found figures for the net worth of humans on earth 2000 years ago? If you compare that net worth to today that would be a very rough estimate how much more money would be needed to get serious upgrades.
Ah found it: About 4000 times 1 BC world GDP:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gross_world_product
(1 BC: 18,5 Trillion global GDP. 2014: ~78Trillion. 78k/18,5 ~4k ) - SpiralBakaRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Title: King of the Mountain
Genre: Fantasy
Protagonist: a guy who rely on weapons he made himself to fight. mostly guns. a divorced guy with one child. a daughter. strength around rank S or higher.
Setting: modern world going apocalypse.
Tension Level: Mid
Basic Premise: the world is going to get some apocalypse. and some people were chosen to be beta testers. and only the MC passes the beta test. so, after the test, he set up a kingdom while preparing for apocalypse that will happen 1 year later by going to dungeons, making weapons, and recruiting people for his kingdom.
Chapter COntent: about how mc prepare for apocalypse, clearing dungeons, leveling ups, making the kingdom better, training, fighting, figuring things out, etc.
Personal Opinion: even though some chapters were short, even though there's some chapters I don't like (like how the mc going around the world looting jewelry stores. it's boring). I like the novel itself. I also like how some things were shortened. like several weeks in dungeon only described in 3 chapters. I hate needlessly long fights and chapters. - earthdrakeRoyal Road★★★ 3.0The story is not bad on itself and the idea (albeit cliched) is done in an interesting fashion.
The style is ok, more like a description from the MC of what happens with very little detail to anything else. It never deviates form the MC and is always in a sort of an internal monologue of sorts. He describes things happening but with almost no detail (ch37) example: daughter comes back, had a tearful reunion but nothing else, no demonstration of fear/relief/etc from both, no expression from the characters. Is not bad for a first time story and very useful to relate several events in little time.
The story as i said is cliched but with an interesting twist, he was a beta tester and all of that, he prepared several things from before and the system let the people feel ok with the changes. He calls mercenaries to help with his kingdom and show him the ropes. There is nothing incredible but it's normal and good.
My only complaints are about his weapons (waaaay to cheaty the mana grenade launcher) and the gold/money transformation. At the rate he is going will end broke in less than a year, why pay that much to mercs, to looters (10 gold per looter means 1.000.000 per 5-man team plus the 10% plus teleportation scrolls and expenses, waay to much money poorly used). Well you get the point, as that there are several other poorly balanced points but you can ignore it and follow the story.
The characters. Sadly in here i have to complain about the plainness of the characters. The MC is 2.5D and the rest are blanks, you read them talking with no expressions or moving but have no idea of who they are.
The grammar is so far perfect so 5 starts.
Overall a nice story that can improve. If you need ideas of what to do you may read The Defective Hermit. The story is close to this and could help you for story, as far as characters and expressions there are several excelent novels that you could imagine the characters and you could try to copy that style. - TheCreatorRoyal Road★★★ 2.5had a good start with good potential, however after the first few chapters it got repetitive, and uninteresting
Spoiler: Spoiler
the MC becomes way to op with just randomly crafting convenient weapons wenever as if he is suddenly some sort of magic genius, and he defeats opponents way above his level with no struggle at all the fight scenes are none existent and the kingdom building becomes repetative, and boring on top of some of the decisions not making sense I.E. assigning some random village chief as the education minister just because he has been apart of the great game for longer than you does not make him qualified.
Theres is also no character building for sidecharacters, because so far there are literally zero relavent characters besides the MC i also have an issue with how dumb the rest of the world seems to be besides the MC for example, you would think that in other worlds their would be people who understood military, and that in the mercenary guild they would understand the benefit of a designated tactician, and whatever other ideas the MC brought forth (they are literally a mercanary guild with experienced millitary professionals!) however they seem to be oblivious of war and just because the MC is from an "advanced" world he seems to be capable of bringing forth not so amazing or unique ideas that the rest of the world seems to have never considered, the excuse being that hes from an advanced world however just because earth is more technologically advanced doesnt mean that the other worlds wouldnt be just as advanced but in the area of magic considering the fact that theyv been part of the great game for far longer, therefore isnt it reasonable to assume that someone would have thought about making more advanced weaponry such as what the MC has found to be quite simple to create and wouldnt the mercenarys be aware of these types of weapons and maybe even use them, or have countermeasures for them opposed to just swords and shields, and wouldnt the gr - funkyguy09Royal Road★★★ 2.5It was going good until around chapter 20, the whole convergence of the new system in to Earth was terribly executed and his characters he introduced felt so 2 dimensional it's hard to imagine he did anything other than throw them in the book to make it seem like there are people other than the MC in the universe.
- ExBlazERoyal Road★★ 1.5Ever played an RPG and found books in-game where the history of that fictional land is laid out for your perusal? Of how that one great character rose to greatness and helped build a grand kingdom or something?
This book is basically that... but with none of the grandiose words used to induce emotion. There is literally no emotion in this book. I read 30 chapters and there is absolutely nothing that I feel.
You know what you subconsciously like in a book? The characters' reactions to different situations. Surprise, horror, anger, fear, joy, sadness.
None of that here. The MC's actions were about as impactful on me as reading a newspaper article about the local beauty pageant without any pictures.
Oh the MC did something amazing and helped a lot of people in unique circumstances. How did the people react to it? Who knows. MC has something else to do so bye.
Honestly, it's depressing. Such an interesting premise. Such a seemingly good few starting chapters. And then you continue along the chapters and realize that it doesn't get better.
Completely wasted potential.
On the upside, there's nearly no grammar errors so at least I didn't feel like poking my eyes out.
