Description

Keiran of the Night Vale has staved off death for two thousand years, but even he’s reached his limits. His body is old, worn out, and failing. While the flesh fails, however, his mind and his magic remain as sharp as ever. What he needs is to reincarnate into a fresh, new, young body, and he bends his prodigious talents towards doing exactly that.

He awakens to find that he’s been reborn in a wasteland where mana has become a scarce resource, one to be hoarded and guarded jealously. Even the internal mana generated by people is stolen away by those who rule them. And without mana, he’s no longer a mage.

It will take more than that to stop Keiran. With each passing week, he regains more of his old strength, but can he keep his secrets safely hidden? Standing in his way is his new home’s cult-like nightly mana tithing, a governor with secrets of his own, and an unforgiving desert with hidden monsters who’d love nothing more than to swallow him whole.

It's a deadly scramble to claim the mana he so desperately needs to survive, but Keiran didn’t become an archmage by accident, and he’s willing to use every dirty trick and tactic he knows to get there again.

Having read the authors other stories, it is not a surprise that the writing in this is great. This takes a classic premise, old monster reincarnating in a younger body, and manages to make it feel new.
The worldbuilding and magic system seem interesting so far, and the mystery of what is actually going on behind the scenes is pretty enticing.
    Would recommend.

I have been absolutely hooked on Keiran and binged it as soon as I started til I was caught up. I love the first person insight and the way things are revealed and presented scratches an itch I didn't know I had. If you enjoy characters who plan, a world where things are known but questions arise in spite of that, and damn good writing I strongly recommend Keiran!

Very intriguing environment. The story is good and starts out very strong. Later on it does get repetitive reminding the reader that this is an old archmage. This doesn't affect the story and you can still enjoy it. Sometimes the author writes a long list of plans to show the characters thought process but it can be tedious and just skipping some paragraphs. Overall very good with minor issues.

This is book two of a fairly unique reincarnation tale.
The protagonist reincarnated himself, but he wasn't the greatest person before and now, while trapped in a child's body he still has the habits of an archmage that was fairly amoral and pragmatic.  He isn't trying to pretend to be a child, which changes it up from a lot of the isekai reincarnation stories (this is not an isekai though).
All the characters are well defined and have real personaliities, and the conflicts between people with differing goals doesn't come across as forced.
Overall I quite like the story.

This is a really fun reincarnation story about an Archmage and includes a lot of adult-level analysis of each situation from the "child" protagonist. While this slows down the pace quite a bit, it includes a bit of worldbuilding. It also develops the magic system in a way that doesn't distract from the main story, but rather improves it.
    Regarding character:
The way Keiran evaluates each situation in an extremely logical way seems to fit excellently with him being a reincarnated Archmage. While his more emotional decisions point toward his melded child experiences, which to him would appear as his most recent memories. This makes for a very complex character who nonetheless is consistent with his own circumstances. Altogether an excellent character!
Unfortunately the same doesn't seem to hold true for the other characters, and they each have less of a defined personality. We have yet to see if that will be rectified as the book progresses.
The grammar is excellent, and I haven't noticed significant spelling issues. The author is very consistent in posting, which makes for a great reading experience.
Personally I find this story to be fascinating, and I can't wait to see where it goes, and eventually solve the mana related mystery that is uncovered early in the story!

Let‘s start with the overall impression. I like the story very much, the worldbuilding is great and really wets the appetite for at least some of the mysteries to be revealed. It‘s also nice to read, I find both style and use of language appealing.
The story itself takes a bit of time to get going, but actually less than I expected. Worldbuilding and setting up the environment the MC finds itself in do need some space and are done seamlessly and naturally. Later chapters are fast paced and action packed, though of course there are also slower paced ones in between.
Other characters only play minor roles so far, though maybe that will change in the future. Right now, the focus is 98% on the MC.
The magic system is well thought out, though I expect we‘ve only seen part of it yet (I‘d expect spells of a higher tier than master e.g.). It‘s not really all that novel (we have schools / disciplines, spell levels, etc.), but it doesn‘t have to be and fits the plot very well.
The speed new chapters are posted at and chapter length is also great.
In summary, it is a great story and I highly recommend it.

One of the best stories I’ve read on here.
Good grammar, nice pacing, frequent uploads, intriguing story premise, and, of course, magic.
Some people seem to take issue with the amount of introspection by the MC, but I live for that.
And the characters seem realistic, which is nice.
Overall, at least worth a try by anyone looking for something new to read.

I'm looking forward to reading more of this story.
There's a delightful juxtaposition with what the protagonist is and how people interact with him. The Author goes over this precise feeling in one of the chapters so it's very deliberate.
Much like Disneys the genie from Aladdin, "Phenomenal cosmic power, itty bitty living space", our Protagonist is powerful but extremely limited in what they can do. This is informing almost every decision they make and it's good to have that grounding.
It's a good story so far, looking forward to more.

It really pulls me in and I can’t wait for more!!! It is well written and I like that while the MC has the potential to be OP they are not insanely OP from the start letting them blow through everything. I cannot recommend reading this book enough and also feel that this book definitely has a lot of potential in the future to solve the mysteries of where he was reincarnated while still allowing him to try and get stronger. This is also as I mentioned all done without the MC being insanely powerful preventing them from having any risks to themselves.

This is a great story. It's a slower paced and the Author is not making any attempts at rushing it which is a positive thing in my eyes. Dealing with issues that require more than firepower to resolve and good world building is how you make an OP MC book interesting.
The intrigue of the world around him pulls the reader in. I constantly want to know more about the world he is in; from the crappy village the MC  was born in to the wider world around him. The author did a good job drawing my interest in other things other than the MC's power.
You won't always agree with the MC in how he carries himself, but I think it makes him more realistic. The way he acts is how I think most humans would act if they had the power to do so.
There are some aspects I dislike, such as the constant reminder of the lack of mana, but after seeing the reviews and questions in the comments it makes sense. Some people need things explained,a lot. However, before every fighting scene or problem he overcomes you get an explanation on the 3/4 ways he could resolve it if he had mana, for him to choose the cheaper ways in the end.
Overall I bought the audible, enjoyed it and binged book 2. Will continue to follow.
