Keeper of the Shrines doesn't aim to do anything too wild or unique, and falls heavily into a slice of life genre, with only a tiny amount of driving plot/intrigue to keep some interest. It is a great, turn-your-brain-off story that is still entertaining despite some hand waving that happens in the background to help facilitate things along.
This story is obviously a smut harem story and has no shame in showing that off, with about 1 in 3 chapters containing some level of mature content. All of the mature scenes are in the Scribble version of the story or on the writer's Patreon, and I looked at some of them while reading myself. It's actually pretty tastefully done for the most part when it comes to mature content, with some of it being character building in the process. I find most mature content annoying at best, so this is a pleasant surprise for anyone who likes that sort of content.
The harem side of things for those of you looking for such content is done in the less used method. Instead of focusing on a single gender like most stories, it is a mix of genders. The universe the protagonist ends up in is also very loose on commitment standards, so there is a lot of openness of different relationship bubbles going on. It also eases some of the burden on explaining why a harem is okay here, which is a step often overlooked in a harem oriented story, so bonus for that.
Looking towards the plot, there is some surface level mystery. The protagonist is the chosen one of the Goddess of Love without any explanation, and there is some form of darkness that exists. That's pretty much it. The development of the lead's harem members has only just now shown some kind of impact to the story, but there is honestly a lot of hand waving going on to keep things moving along at a rapid clip to ensure the story doesn't get bogged down. This means if one wants to, there are likely some plot holes or inconsistencies if you decide to dig deep enough, but I couldn't be bothered to mys

I'll be honest - I'm here for the smut. And honestly, the smut is solid! It's pretty hot, engaging, very fun.
The rest of the story, unfortunately, is far weaker. There's inconsistencies in the narrative, things just happen without explanation, characters drop randomly in and out of the narrative, and the MC magically seems to know exactly how to solve every challenge she's presented with.
I can't really recommend it as a story, unfortunately. But I am definitely enjoying the spicy scenes!
