Description
Katrina Lupinthinksher life is a total dumpster fire.
She’s an awkward eighth grader with an obnoxious sister and smothering parents who won’t let her quit the Sunflower Scouts. How can her life possibly get worse?
Kat finds out all too soon.
After an unlucky bout of midnight sleepwalking, she wakes up in the woods, miles from her campsite. Trouble is, Kat isn’t alone.
Several pairs of sinister eyes watch Kat from the forest. A pack of vicious wolves have sniffed her out. Somehow, Kat survives the terrifying ordeal but doesn’t escape unscathed. The largest of the pack, a ferocious dark-furred wolf, chomps Kat’s arm.
Recovering from the attack, Kat undergoes strange changes. She can smell cheeseburgers a mile away and sprint faster than ever before. But not everything is so awesome. Kat also growls at her best friend and finds long, gross hairs growing out of her face!
Soon Kat realizes the wolf that bit her was anything but normal. And neither is the creepy, long-haired teen who wanders out of the forest to stalk Kat like prey.
Can Kat uncover her small town’s century-long mystery, or will she succumb to the fury and fangs of the werewolf?
A teenage werewolf novel in the tradition of Christopher Pike and R.L. Stine’s Fear Street.

- J. G. SadsquatchRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5This story is very bingeable. It has a lot of potential and a protagonist who feels real and relatable. Katrina’s sarcastic, self-aware voice is one of the strongest parts of the story, and her reactions to the strange and terrifying events make her easy to root for. The supernatural elements—like the wolves, the mysterious teen, and Katrina’s transformation—are compelling and build suspense in a way that makes you want to keep reading. The scene where Katrina hears her dog’s “voice” is especially memorable and chilling.
However, the story does take some time to get going. There’s a bit too much focus on routine moments and details, which slows down the pacing. Readers might want more tension and clarity earlier on. By Chapter 5, while the mystery is intriguing, it’s still not clear what Katrina is up against or how much danger she’s in. Tightening these early chapters would help hook readers faster.
The supporting characters, like Emily and Sarah, add to the story but could use more depth to make their relationships with Katrina feel richer. The supernatural worldbuilding is interesting but needs a bit more development to feel cohesive.
Overall, this is a solid start with some great moments of suspense. With a little more focus on pacing, stakes, and character depth, it could become a truly gripping read. - ThrillianRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Kat Lupin: Wolf Girl follows, well, Kat Lupin (I mean, it's right there in the title)
One night, when camping with her family, Kat Lupin encounters a mysterious white wolf who bites her on the arm. Now Kat is starting to undergo changes, as she can smell food a mile away, run faster than anyone she knows and...talk to her dog?
"Kat Lupin: Wolf Girl" is a fun romp that puts many of the tropes of the werewolf curse in a coming-of-age story. Kat is a fun character, and she's set against many equally great characters, like her sister Emily, who she is constantly fighting against, as well as her parents.
There's honestly quite a lot to enjoy here. As a fan of R.L. Stine, I definitely dig the style of this series, with its understated style and very familiar setting, which gives me definite Goosebumps vibes.
I'm also very curious to see what the werewolves are up to, and what role Kat will play in their plans.
However, this does provide one tiny wrinkle - there are some unnecessary POV shifts which I feel take the reader out of the story. The story works best when it;s showing Kat's perspective, especially as she sees the world around her and reacts to whatever fresh weirdness coming her way.
Overall, however, it's a very fun and enjoyable read that's perfect for the Halloween season. Fans of R.L. Stine are definitely in for a treat, but anyone looking for a fun lycanthrope story should definitely check this one out.
