Description
Luke is a regular guy, with a regular-guy life. He has a wife, a daughter, two cars and a house.
He's living the regular guy dream.
Thing is, this isn't a regular world anymore. The Awakened and their powers have de-regularized things. When heroes and villains are running around the city monologuing and fighting, it can get a little nerve-wracking.
Luke can mostly deal, he's also Awakened.
His superpowers however, are super-weak, barely E-class, and Luke knows what real power is.
Luke's cousin Mike is Star Commander, the world's only SSS-class awakened Hero.
When Mike's power was measured for the first time, they had to redraw the power curve, justlike every other time he did things when Luke and Mike were growing up.
The thing is, Luke iscontent with his life, wouldn't want Mike's superhero life. It does not bother him that his powers are basically nothing.
Every once in a while though?
Nothing is a real cool hand

- Mars Is RealRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0First of all, GodtiercupnoodleCHEF has a lot of story-telling talent! If you're looking for a good, quick, and fun read this will scratch that itch. The worldbuilding and character-building are compressed in an extremely natural way. It reads like a father telling his children a story before bed: funny, warm, didactic-yet-whimsical. Plus, the trope-subversion is excellent! I wish this would get made in to a comic, even if it's just a single, stand-alone release.
What I noticed first and foremost, though, was the unapologetic level of VOICE. The writing style is unique and interesting and that makes for great writing. Sure, the grammar isn't all there, but I believe that's a stylistic choice on the author's part. The main character is clearly a country boy at heart or at least something similar (fly-fishing, horticulture, etc), so it actually works perfectly for the first-person recounting. If you read his other fiction, Daphne, you can see GodtiercupnoodleCHEF has excellent technical writing skills.
Please keep writing more stories! It would be a disservice to the world if you stopped. - RockyTheDogBoyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A funny short story with a balance of non-comedic stuff. Good character voice here, and found it engaging to the end. Could use some work, but overall I don't think you'll regret spending the time reading it. The only major thing I'd say needs improvement is trimming some of it down - but perhaps this could be remedied instead by just organizing it into different sections.
- Levi KommerRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Comets come and grant powers. The awakened awaken but still need to bring home the bacon.
The narrator takes a hands off approach to the big issues, allowing his well loved cousin to handle the headlines while the MC enjoys his family and his 9-5. The story (so far?) takes place in well paced vignettes where the narrator extends compassion to the great and small, using humor to describe the actions of humans suddenly granted great power.
"Before you've really thought it through, you’ve got the homecoming queen from your high school days held hostage by your army of gypsum golems. It could happen to anybody really."
A delightful story full of warmth and charm. - Strif3Royal Road★★★★ 4.0It's like a stream-of-consciousness chapter in the MC's autobiography lol from the childhood story to the lesson learned and everything. Short and sweet, though I'm used to longer stories ngl. Lightly comedic in a lowkey self-deprecating way, like its a story the MC is telling you about himself. Good read
