It Started with Slime V1.0

Description
****I am currently rewriting a lot of the story from Chapter 51 - Isekai'd for the story to be a lot more cohesive with what I wish for the story to be. I will not be taking this story down but wanted any new reader to know that before diving in. The first 50 chapters will likely be the same or very similar but after that will be some major changes, taking the story in the direction I wanted it to go without any confusion. I have spent the 2 years away thinking about this and wanting to do this so bear with me while I make it happen.******
Before we jump in, let me say that the MC starts stupid, so the language and writing style is straightforward to reflect this. The writing improves with the MC and as the chapters progress on (I hope). It is also a gradual growth story, so no zero to hero in ten seconds... with that out of the way:
An alchemical experiment has gone wrong and resulted in a Slime Monster. It doesn't have a name at first and is something that it will need to work out! This story follows a Slime that starts as a Micro Slime with some level of consciousness, and there is more to it than meets the eye. Survival is the name of the game. To improve, it works hard to grow, evolve and become more powerful to survive its harsh new reality. There is a lot more going on, and only time will tell if this Slime (in all its various versions) can become strong enough to make it through the strife to the other side. It's a harsh world, after all.
It Started with Slime is a Monster Protagonist Evolution story. There will be no profanity or sexual content, but there will be some violence and fighting descriptions.
I am a native English speaker, so the English hereshouldbe good. That said, even though editted, there may be some corrections and typos, so if you see some, let me know! If it bothers you a lot, I am working to ensure all chapters have no typos, but some might slip through. I will endeavour to correct any picked up, though! I started this a year ago, so any feedback is always appreciated, as well as reviews and ratings! If you like or don't like the story, let me know in the detailed reviews! That always helps me see what is good and what needs improving.
Working on releasing chapters twice a week, I will try to increase that as time goes on, but at the moment, that is what I can manage. Patreon has more. If the story gets more popular, then I will increase the releases. I am aiming ultimately for a chapter a day if I can get to that. Chapters are roughly 1500 words, with Interludes every five chapters being more or less than that! Enjoy!
Edit: Book 1 is finished, and the format for Book 2 is slightly different, with Interludes every three chapters, and the release schedule will be two chapters a week.

- TheSaddestMelonRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0It is a little repetitive at first but it gets better when he branches to different slime sub species and this one of the better novels I have read on multiple novels with little to no grammatical errors so far. I hope that this author gets more reads and continues their amazing work.
- Unfixed747Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0It's been really hard (for me at least) to find this type of story, and even harder to find one that's actually good. I like the characters, I like their interactions, I like the world building, and I like the mechanics. It was a bit of a switch from Resh to Aarav but I think after the transition it was still really good. (I hope this is an okay review I had too fill it up a bit to meet the 50 word requirement)
- UnderloadRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Ah, where to begin. This story would have been all over the site if it was released a few years ago. Unfortunately, it wasn't. Add the slow, chapter release and limited chapter length, and you get slime. It's really unfortunate.
Style: System messages dominate the story at first, but they works well for the first half. Then mc, Resh, gains thoughts and the styles explains to give space to his thoughts. The style changes for the third time when he evolves into the copycat slime, which I think perfectly brings out the character traits. Though the story has fewer described scenes, even in the latest chapters, they work since the character himself is not yet intelligent enough to take in all of the worlds.
Story: The plot follows the slime as it goes around killing, rampaging, pillaging, and rap-- ahem. Mc fights. There's not much-choreographed action, as there is no place for it, yet, but such a detail would have only dragged the story instead of adding anything to it, by my thoughts.
Grammar: I can't say. I can barely write sentences.
Character: The character grows on you. The way he ignored his father and bumbled out of the lab toward freedom was especially brave and straightforward. I wish he grew intelligent from experience rather than evolution, but that's the choice made for him. There are a few missed opportunities with the skill assimilation, but it's done well.
Overall, the book is a good read. It's small and precise. Sure, the book needs pacing help, but which one doesn't? And I hope a villain is introduced into the story soon. It'll give it the edge it needs. - paulnotpeterRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5As of chapter 51:
It's amazing how much the author has improved both the story and as a writer since he started. He really appreciates every single reader and it shows with the effort he puts in. I suspect that readers that have ever experienced becoming lucid in a dream will better appreciate the chapter that has ruffled some feathers. I welcome the change and see it as a huge positive. For the most part, I also welcome the interludes, or at least the parts with characters the author has slowly gotten us to know and care about. There are typos that would be easier to correct if there was a Google Docs version of the story that readers could leave comments on. Maybe there is. I don't know. I will continue to read and will update my review when I catch up. Thank you! - AJFoxmoorRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5The basic problem with this novel is that the main character goes through a drastic change about a third of the way through the novel. I kept with it anyway, but the story essentially switches genre on the audience.
I am not the first reviewer to point this out, but I want to address the issue more thoroughly and also provide advice for the author on how to fix the issue.
First, we'll walk through the different categories.
There are spoilers:
First the Style Score. 2/5
This is the lowest of the scores, and for good reason, this is what is making so many people leave the story. The author switches from a monster evolution litrpg to a more slice of life nice monster in human society / human reclaiming his humanity fic. At the same time, the fairly heavy elements of rpg mechanics, which were a staple of the first third of the novel, almost completely disappear.
Story Score: 4/5
Either of the two stories, individually, would be decent, but the second one makes a poor transition from the first. Since I already penalized that in the style score, I will not do so more here.
Grammer Score: 4/5
Minor grammatical issues, but rarely anything that makes it hard to understand.
Character Score: 2/5
The jarring switch between how the character looks at the world is not helpful, but this is not what killed it for me. It is that the main character is supposed to be much smarter than they were, and at least around average for a human, but they are so incredibly stupid.
Once they are out of the forest they just... stop. They stop getting better, they stop consuming various materials. I gave them a while, because I knew they didn't trust everyone, but even once Haemish showed he knew about their ability to gain traits they only took the slightest of advantages of that. I kept waiting for them to take advantage of all the resources around them. Why the hell didn't he sample the plants in the garden, he literally saw them being trimmed? And he could have gotten raw animal parts from the - Trumpet_42Royal Road★★★ 2.5The first 50 or so chapters I would give around 4 stars, it wasn't anything spectacular but it was entertaining and I enjoyed it. But at around chapter 50,
the author essentially kills off the main character and replaces him with someone entirely different who's a far less interesting character. I'm dropping this story now as I can't make myself care about this dull new character. - TheLegate87Royal Road★★ 2.0It was a really good story, up until the main character was effectively deleted and replaced with some random schmoe that immediately is trying to become human again. Went from being an enjoyable slime story to this. Disappointing.
Filler Filler Filler Filler Filler Filler Filler Filler FillerFiller Filler Filler FillerFiller Filler Filler FillerFiller Filler Filler FillerFiller Filler Filler FillerFiller Filler Filler FillerFiller Filler Filler - PsiopticRoyal Road★★ 2.0The idea of the story was good, but I thought the whole thing was pretty dull. There weren't any likeable characters besides the slime. Every problem is a constant. Terrible at not dying, fairly incompetent, trying to get bigger and then condense it.... The obscured phobias and overcoming them were were interesting until the MC gets replaced and they come right back... So that whole bit never mattered, and the human was so much worse.
- Greedy TravelerRoyal Road★★ 2.0Enjoyed it up till the main character was replaced by a human who completely overpowers the Main character and is overall a worse character but, I did enjoy it uptill that point
i don't recommend reading this as the payout for reading to chapter 50ish gets thrown in your face
