Isekai Butler [Hiatus pending rewrite]
Community Rating
Description
This is not the first time Blanc’s been summoned to an Isekai. It’s not even the fifth, or the tenth, and by now, he’s seen nearly everything. Backstabbing Mages, Surprisingly Sane Demon Lords, Misunderstood Evil Villains, Plotting Princesses….not only is it boring, it’s exhausting!
His latest destination is the land of Excelsia, but the System seems to have updated recently. His progress? Gone. His Skills? Vanished! His Hero Class? Completely wiped from existence.
And yet, maybe the new Ultra-Rare "Butler" class that Blanc has been bestowed with has some hidden tricks after all? All Blanc knows is that he has a job to do, and Butlerdom is a lot more complex than he might have imagined.
On Hiatus for now: I'm going to spend a few months trying to clean up the plot and grammar a bit more before re-publishing it. Thank you all for the time, comments, feedback and the journey. Feel free to message me on my Discord at Nooblet121#8431
Happy reading to everyone!

- toddRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0First off, I've had a blast reading this story. It opens with a jaded, but still game, Legendary Hero being summoned for his 13th world via the near industrialized process within the land of Excelsia. However, with the Hero System update, his previous Skills are erased and he begins anew as a- well, a Butler. Plenty of stories have had a side characters as unnaturally effective and composed butlers, and setting that as the main character makes for a far more entertaining perspective than expected, even as it just gets off the ground. There's a wry resigned humor that may not appeal to everyone, but sets the foundation for a solid slice-of-life.
Style: Told from the first person, it maintains a slow and steady pace as Blanc settles into his newest world. Descriptions are solid without rolling into flowery prose.
Grammar: Overal very solid, there's a single error that I noticed (Ch. 20 uses "site" instead of "sight") but the rest all seemed to well edited.
Story: The world is built around a relatively novel isekai premise. Excelsia, through unknown and potentially ominous means, has industrialized the summoning process, grabbing heroes to the point where there is an entire bureaucratic engine required to manage the induction of new summons. Calamitous horrors stalk the countryside (with well-written eldritch nature), heroes are an oppressed class, and- it's just not our problem. Blanc arrives (possibly as the Chosen One) ready to charge forth with resigned cheer and thoroughly repressed trauma, only to find his extensive experience and accomplishments turned toward the art of butlering (since butlery is apparently a butler's room). It's almost a relief, even as Blanc grapples with figuring out how the System has changed and how to best leverage his new class, the genre-wise MC on the cusp of complete heroic burnout just gets to relax into novel role. I imagine his peace won't last forever, but as a slice-of-life, it makes for an entertaining exploration of what happen - BullerRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Didn't know what to think of this story at first, the plot being little more than a random idea. Just thought it would be something akin to a dumb joke, played out again and again. Butler in another world, guys! But, this does show some promise of being more, and from the initial first chapters I believe it might actually develop into something rather good.
Pacing also needs work but whatever. A solid 5/5 from me - NetiZenRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I admit that I tried to go in with no expectations, you have expectations anyway, because that's just how it is. So I was expecting a slow SoL comedy, and in many ways that is what it is, but it has much more depth to it than that.
It's clear that this story is very much a story driven... story, and there is a lot of foreshadowing for the upcoming background drama that will eventually happen in a revolving door format around the MCs new employment. The comedic elements however, are not as prolific as I was expecting.
Though in the same vain I was also expecting it to be a story driven drama, and it simply isn't that either, maybe half and half? Not what I was expecting, but in a good way, since I was not expecting it to be as good as it turned out to be. - NorthernWardenRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Well worth reading for a fun time with great characters. The pacing is great. This is a very fun and light hearted story that is well worth reading. This has the first hints at a deep and interesting world while being very funny at the same time. This is a little bit of a parody but not so much that it detracts from the story at all.
- NotSoSharpSwordRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This novel is pretty much an isekai parody, but it still has some parts of an actual isekai and at times humor shifts into serious stuff. Right now I'd say that the main problem with the novel is that it just doesn't update fast enough. Now I get that the author isn't actually getting paid for this, and it's really not his fault, but the problem remains that when you have so many characters right off the bat, they all just feel underdeveloped
- Poached_EggRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0What caught me off guard about this story was not so much the butler aspect - which is what I expected the unique selling point to be - but rather the fact that the protagonist is an old hands at being summoned, and has clearly been through the isekai wringer several times. I can't claim to have seen that before. If you're a fan of the isekai genre who is getting a little burnt out on its tropes, then the novelty of that aspect might be even more refreshing than the novelty of the protagonist being a butler.
- S_k_yRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I usually read a good number of chapters before giving a review, but this story is SO GOOD, and frankly original from the start that I had to go back and give it 5 stars asap. A twist on Isekai we do not see that often, if at all.
- AkarlathRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Intriguing world, a Hero coming to grips with not being all that. The emphasis on conversations as a tool for navigating the world was executed quite well. I "feel" that the bit about expecting things to be big hero overstays its welcome a bit but nowhere close to dragging the story down. Really looking forward to how the class and story develop.
- lovecallRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Good humorous story. It is one of those parodies of isekai genre; but done well. The comedy is strong on this one. Only a jaded heart would not let out even a single smirk after they go through the first chapter. Recommend it if you want to have an amused smile on your face that makes your day.
Style: the narration is hilarious but filled with wisdom. It is not like a style that purely intends to be funny without regard to anything else. It makes sense. No matter how hilarious it sounds, it fits with the story very well. One of my small complaints would be sometimes it took me a few seconds and a reread to understand the narration. Most of the time it is because the jokes are too deep for me. But hey, most of the jokes here work fine. (5)
Story: The story is very interesting, mostly because of the humors, as expected of a parody of isekai genre done well. However, and I feel that this is the case because it just began, among my various lists of my unfinished fictions I want to read, this one would not be at the top half. It is very interesting, but there still isn’t that attraction that makes me look forward to reading the continuation just yet. It gives me the same feeling as One Punch Man manga. I have fun when reading it, but I am fine with not picking it up to read. From my feeling, I see that as a result from focusing too much on humors and neglecting giving out things that make readers look forward to reading the next chapter. The world is still not really explained. And while that is fine and all, it makes me have no reason to look forward to reading more. (4.5)
Grammar: Grammar is good. No typo. But I feel that the words choice sometimes makes it bad. For example, using a simple word like a bandit is better than using a difficult, more complicate synonym of it. Some people may think that using difficult words may seem smart, but personally, I think it is better to keep it simple as long as the word is not overused. (4.5)
Characters: Most are good enough, ver - WarLadleRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Well written, good ideas, but nothing groundbreaking.
This whole review is going to sound ridiculously, unjustifiably harsh, so let's get the groundwork out of the way first.
The story is good, great even. It's solidly written, decently humourous, well planned and well plotted. This work deserves a 4.5 star rating easily. However, it's very much not for me, as I feel it retreads most of the same ground other similar stories have, and even though it isn't worse than those stories (it may in fact be better) it is 'last' in the fact that nothing here feels new to me.
This story is like most other 'parody' isekais. It's relentessly 'japanese' in the fashion of Light Novels and their anime adaptations. All the tropes of tropes of tropes are here:
A) A jaded protagonist with a semi-mysterious trauma filled past, who still acqueisceses near instantly with whatever awful and restrictive circumstances the system du jour places on him.
B) The system is 'funny' and 'cute', while horrifically restricting the MC. [going as far as to forbid any speech contrary to it's preferences, speak for the MC on occasion and cripple him as soon as he steps out of line through enormous stat reductions]).
B1) Said system is intentionally horrible because PARODY, but the consequences and effects of this horribleness are still ignored anyway.
C) The MC is placed in a position to potentially eventually 'overthrow' the system
D) Author always has an answer for why the MC is restriced, why things are happening exactly the same as they play out in every other parody isekai.
E) A cute pet!
F) A sympathetic, wise but now ostracized old master!
G) An abused underclass ripe for revolution!
...
...
...
Z) Finally, while many of these tropes are lampshaded, referenced, and commented on, they're still there. They aren't even (at least so far) subverted or played with much at all.
On the novel side, the Chosen One (not MC)
is likely suicidal, and places no value on her own life. And this fact is revealed a
